21  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGWatcher 1.3.4, a GUI/monitor for CGMiner & BFGMiner to help minimize downtime on: January 13, 2014, 06:03:57 PM
I did test the latest CGRemote, so far so good.

Suggestion
=======
Since CGRemote might be commercial+closed source (and this is all fine by me), then I recommend the following:

Add a REST API to CGRemote to allow integration with profitability switching application (I do not use CoinWarz/coinchoose).

Having a single "end point" to control the pool selection for my miners would be very useful to me.

I suggest an API that can do an equivalent to:
  void SetActive( string minerName, string profileName, string poolName );
  string GetActiveProfileName( string minerName );
  string GetActivePoolName( string minerName );

No need for configuration/monitoring of "all things" through the API. These 3 functions should be a good start to make your product a "building block" into custom automated systems.

Thanks for your good work.

Another Coingen Clone?
Please… don’t. That’s just reckless! We are backed by real, experienced developers who compiled everything by hand & tested both the Windows Wallet & the blockchain extensively. We will devote 100% of our resources to a stable launch and post-launch support.
...
Awesome. I also know a guy who can compile, assemble and link an executable all by hand. As a proof that it was stable, he could even run the opcodes in his mind!

That is sure better than all these inexperienced developers recklessly using compilers these days  Grin

I like the Sigma with two bars.

One can even choose to use a simple Sigma character in a limited text based interface and the essence of the brand would not be lost.

I never liked the one that looks like 3 silos, it could hardly be perceived as a currency symbol by itself.

Keep up the good work!

invest into a known high risk and unstable infrastructure.

You should submit that as a marketing slogan.

As much as we accept risk, so does Big Vern. I think he can make good with the community here---even turn it around to his and our own benefit. He has yet to do so. Cryptsy needs to be able to perform under pressure, both as a site and as a business. He will build faith delivering under those conditions. Calling for slack is not going to solve things. Let the man perform.

I hear you and agree that some healthy pressure help get things done. I just worry here that the OP initiative of getting the Florida Attorney General is too much.

Authorities can decide to just squash Cryptsy. This might be easier on short term (even for BigVern) versus fighting over legal precedent for virtual currency exchanges... I just hope we do not test that path so early in the game. Cryptsy is barely 1 year old and likely too weak to face the scrutiny of an attorney general.

All, please do not get the authorities involve into our quickly evolving markets... you may ruin it for everybody!

Most understand that alt-coins infrastructures are new and *very high risk*... and they usually expect some lost due to bugs, trading delay, forks and hacks.

Only fools expect that these new exchanges can provide them with the same level of service, software maturity and regulated protection as if it was "wall street" (and even that is a minefield).

if BigVern would be defrauding others, then it would be another story. I have not yet seen any proof of illegal activities.

===

I am with Cryptsy since the early days.  I deposit/trade almost every day.

For sure, there is pain with the extreme lags and inconsistencies... but somehow, things add up within a few hours (or a couple of days in some case).

I am very grateful for the entrepreneurship and hard work done by BigVern and others.

Please cut him some slack while things settled, and in the meantime we have to assume the consequence of *our* decision to invest into a known high risk and unstable infrastructure.

Blazr2,

Must get on http://coinmarketcap.com as soon as possible.

UNO is barely getting noticed compared to other coins.

I like UNO (and own quite a few), but I believe it may miss the boat if it remains in darkness while the chinese "gold rush".

Mullick,

The alt-coin race is obviously on, and I think CAP is not visible enough on people's radar.

CAP need to be at least back on http://coinmarketcap.com

Is it something that is in your power to push for?

Thx.

Anyone else has this character crossing their mind once in a while? May be I am showing how old I am  Cheesy

I agree that CryptoCaps is a good name candidate.

It sounds right, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to learn the word alliteration.

===

It is not my favorite though.

No doubt we all know what crypto is here, but its meaning might get lost outside our geeky context.

To a larger audience, crypto might bring thought of complexity, hiding secrets and even death (crypt).

All IMHO.

Could you do one: Red circle with  'CAP'  in white letters?    ex: (CAP)  (No selection here for white letters...)
...

Not easy to make 3 characters readable within a circle when it has to fit within the space of one character. Anyway, here is my attempt at your request:

Coin note: I like the way the diff adjusts.  I think its the best solution to combat profit hopping pools.

The CAP diff algo is quite stable (no wild oscillation), but its quality is also its curse.

When the price was higher, CAP was among the most stable to mine for the coinwarz/coinchoose followers. I remember how BitJohn was happy about it in the Cryptsy chatbox  Cheesy... but once mine/dump got automated, the constant selling pressure became too strong.

Time and time again we have seen CAP to be good for mining/dumping at any price, down to a limit that we might have reach recently.

Sadly, I believe this will repeat as soon CAP come out of the abyss.

YOU might see your images, we see ads for lego deathstars...
...

Look closely at the prices of the lego deathstars, you will see USD, Bitcoin and the "brand under test"  Wink

I did choose purposely an unrelated toy. Just to get the feel for the brand as a general purpose currency.

Let me know how you feel about it. Thanks.

Name is one thing, but I wanted to a get a feel of the brand when used.

I did stitch a few common icons (from font-awesome) on top of Amazon (Edit: Look for the red prices in USD+Bitcoin+"Cap Branding" side by side).

Example with Cappuccino:

Example with BottleCap:

Example with a generic coin (not sure for CapCoin branding, so I went with the intent of keeping it simple):

For CapCoin, a letter with double-bar is likely a better fit, but I did not had time to put much thought into it (may be just adding two short bars within this coin icon will do... like euro but with the E closed into a circle). Edit: I did update with what could be a minimalist CapCoin icon.

36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps v1.5.2 Just Released Checkpoint Node New Wallet Design! Please Update on: November 09, 2013, 03:01:45 PM
so why not go with CapCoin? We could suggest names for ever but pretty much achieve nothing like this.
I think we have some time on our hands because mullick is not available right now to do the poll.

I suggest to mullick to put to vote only names that had at least a thumb up from two other members.

Personally, I am now warming back to a bold branding (Cappuccino with coffee cup symbol) versus a conservative choice (CapCoin), so a couple more days might help. Might just be me waking up and needing a coffee...

May be caffeine addicted investors will be subconsciously motivated to get one cappuccino coin worth enough to buy a real cappuccino?   Cheesy

38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps v1.5.2 Just Released Checkpoint Node New Wallet Design! Please Update on: November 09, 2013, 02:19:53 AM
I like CapCoin. For now, this is the one that would get my vote.

A bit hard when said loud (might just be me, English is not my native language), but the shortening to cap in practice will just fix that nicely.

There is a bit of danger of becoming "crapcoin" from the detractors, but same can be said for anything starting with cap. Just playing devil's advocate.

Great post and thinking.

I am all for a new name (and symbol). I definitely agree with Vivisector999, need to try and stay away from food named coins (and metals).
Anything that is used in the real world besides stuff that is of high value (diamonds, gold and so on), should not be used in the name.

Sadly, most common high value stuff relates to metal/rock/element... and it is overdone. A few are good names (I am thinking GoldCoin), but what is left just suck.

I also think the likely fall of many "high value natural stuff" cryptos will taint the others.

(IMHO)

===

Everybody: I would like to see a few more name proposal... even when not so good, it may help someone else to have a lighting bulb moment.

(Before posting I just saw the CapCoin proposal from eBit. Not bad. People, keep these coming).

I agree that metal is now overdone for cryptos, and the few good ones are taken.

I also agree that BBQ was not a good name. It feels low class and redneck (and yes, I do like BBQ).

... but I would not generalize that all food names are to be avoided.

As an example, Apple kept feeling to me like "Newton", "education" and "good for you" in its early days. People may feel differently about it today... but hopefully you know what I mean.
