21  Economy / Speculation / I felt bad buying this morning at $14,000... on: December 07, 2017, 04:38:12 PM
But now that it has shot up to nearly $17,000 in just a few hours, it doesn't seem like too bad an investment!

Its crazy thinking that just last week i didn't want to buy at $10, or even $11k!

My only fear is that the bubble will pop with it increasing so quickly

22  Economy / Economics / Re: $1,500 to spend - buy btc, or buy another miner? on: December 04, 2017, 09:51:16 AM
Thanks guys

I think i will invest in buying BTC right now, and then when new mining equipment comes out early next year, hopefully i will have made a little profit on my btc investment so i can use that to buy another miner!

Although i now think i have missed my chance to buy in a dip - the lowest i saw on coinbase was $9,500, but with it now being over $11,500, i dont think it will drop that low again!

maybe i just have to bite the bullet and buy at $11,500?
23  Economy / Economics / Re: $1,500 to spend - buy btc, or buy another miner? on: November 30, 2017, 04:19:10 PM
If you are interested in arithmetic it is more profitable to buy bitcoin. But there is a significant problem. You for life, you must have the Fiat. You will have to sell some coins to provide for their needs. In this case, the number of your bitcoins will be permanently reduced. Coin mining will always be profitable.

I have this in excess of what i need. Therefore the $1500 is here, and ready, to invest.

My question which investment is better?
24  Economy / Economics / $1,500 to spend - buy btc, or buy another miner? on: November 30, 2017, 01:45:38 PM
So after being paid a little bonus, i'm wondering what is best to do....

I'm not sure how low BTC will come down to after this monsterous surge, so i figure i have 2 options:

1 - Buy BTC when i figure is the best time. But when is that time?!?! Is it when it reaches $9,000? $8,000? Is it even likely to go that low again?

2 - Buy another miner and have it hosted somewhere. I already have a home miner so i'd like somewhere cheaper to run another one (expensive and inconvenient in the UK), and i'd like to skip the $200/250 import VAT duty. But then i have to wait 2 months or so for an S9. Or maybe worth waiting until the new Avalon 8 series comes out early next year?

With this amazing surge in price, i'm tempted to just buy more BTC, but then i am concerned the price might correct itself and lose out.

Thoughts everyone? What would you do with $1500?  Huh
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What About Some Bitcoin Party? on: November 29, 2017, 01:56:04 PM

As Bitcoin has already surpassed the $10,000 mark successfully in the past few days and is now even posed to easily win over the $11,000 level soon, am thinking that maybe it is time to have some celebration online or offline! What about some beer or a champagne celebrating this very important and historic landmark for Bitcoin? This moment can enter into Bitcoin's history as one to be remembered for a long time and years from now we can look back at 2017 when Bitcoin made its biggest bull run so far after being tested with fire in the last few months notably the China ban and the recent 'civil war' with BitcoinCash which saw its value dipped (made some happy to buy more at that time). Well, indeed, what does not kill China will eventually make it stronger.

We are celebrating for various reasons and at the top of that is that Bitcoin has finally arrived in the mainstream consciousness and is now undergoing the process of legitimization which is serving as a recognition of its status both as a currency and store of value coming from the same sector that threw big doubts over its viability when it started and even when it already shown some strength in the market. Bitcoin is here to stay and if China was not able to make it a rug then I don't think any country can be able to do it since it is impossible for them to get united in many pressing issues much more on Bitcoin.

Let's forget for a while all the FUDS and negative connotations surrounding Bitcoin and stop thinking about the possible correction, retreat, crash, bubble, fraud, ponzi, money laundering, criminal activities and everything else. It is time to celebrate even just for one day and savor the experience of being a part of the Bitcoin journey!

Hell yes!

Person who owns the most bitcoin is buying!
26  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10k is so damn close!! on: November 28, 2017, 08:35:15 PM
$10K has been reached already, more than once, even. But the price cannot stay there for long, it always falls back to sub $10K levels. I think it has to do with people setting sell orders at $10K, so whenever $10K is reached people start selling, which prevents us from staying above the threshold for now.

Not according to coinbase. Still hasn’t reached $10k!

If you are a genuine company, with your first post on the largest forum online for btc, why do you not bother to respond to anyone or try and engage the community.

Scam! Scam! Scam!
28  Economy / Speculation / $10k is so damn close!! on: November 28, 2017, 08:04:05 PM
I don’t even hold that much bitcoin, but I keep on checking the price of btc, and it is so so so close to $10k!

I am excited to see what happens at this price - I have a feeling a lot will change! Some for good, some not so good!

What does everyone think will happen when $10k is hit?
29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is It advisable to quit my present job for bitcoin? on: November 24, 2017, 02:25:22 PM
Bitcoin trading these days has become so rucreative that I am tempted to quit my present job which is not giving me enough time to explore more out of bitcoin world...

What's your take on this, should I go ahead and quit?

Thanks

Do it.

Take a chance. Whilst the crypto market is on the up, this is your chance.

You can always get another job if trading doesn't work out.
30  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: November 23, 2017, 11:38:22 AM
In the "real world", anyone in their right mind would not send $'000s of money via a method of payment that has absolutely zero recourse or chance to reclaim, to a brand new website that:

existed just for a couple of days
has ZERO contact information
does not have a registered address visible
has never released a single product before

For some reason, people involved in BTC put on a blindfold in the slim chance of getting a miner! Yet everybody knows there is a huge number of scams.

For the potential $3mio they have collected in pre-orders already, I could buy 2 S9's, mash them together to eek out 16 THS, add a sticker to the side of the casing with any company name i wanted. I could then show this to a few people who then vouch for the machine. I then create a fairly basic website for just a few hundred bucks.

Wham, bam, thank you everyone for my almost instant $3mio scam!
31  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: November 22, 2017, 02:27:44 PM
Who knows, maybe they can provide a unit for review by Haggsfin/Phillipma/Fuzzy etc?

i know that other new miner company did, and it almost instantly creates credibility.

It does seem quite a cheap price however - that for me has alarm bells ringing if this truly is the worlds most efficient miner!
32  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S9 in the UK... WORTH IT ??? on: November 16, 2017, 02:01:01 PM
I mine in the UK and its BARELY profitable, in one setup I have 2x30amp with 4xs9 on each ringer, it costs me around £800 a month in power but I make half that again in profit, sounds quite nice but consider the cost of s9's and psu's and IMPORT DUTIES and you will see its roi is a long way away! so why do I do it? I use it in the winter for heating the house :-) lol with no heating costs in our harsh weather its a nice trade off.

personally I have a load of s9's sitting in hosting complexes, much better roi with added benefit if no import duties!

just some things to think about

+1 to that!

I have 1 Avalon 741 in the house which does a damn good job at keeping it warm in the winter. Come the summer time i will take it outside.

At 1150W it costs around £3-£4.40 per day, depending on your rates. My day rates are 16p per kwh, and night rates i dont know. my best guess is it costs ~£3 per day to run. Per THs you earn ~ $1.5 per day. Profit wise that is ~£4/day for me. I also consider that i have not turned the central heating on, and that probably saves £1-2 per day. I have just changed energy provider and i will start paying less for electricity - have you switched recently and got a good deal on electricity?

Like squall says - for any future purchases i will have them hosted so that i dont get hammered by the import VAT and duties. Additionally, i am happy with just 1 miner kept in house.

34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: ⛏ StartMining ICO has already started!⛏ on: November 14, 2017, 03:35:32 PM
SCAM..?

I'm not sure, but their whitepaper named Graham Mitchell, Managing Partner at Transactsafe UK as a partner, but their website clearly states that they are not involved with StartMining:

http://transactsafe.co.uk/

Also, transactsafe has only set up in august 2017.

Draw your own conclusions about a company that is trying to get $10mio of other peoples money

What the hell have you been researching if you do not have the answer to these basic questions?

If you are seriously suggesting you will invest everything, maybe you continue your research

38  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin rise to $500k in three years? on: November 11, 2017, 09:14:48 AM
In my opinion, this very well could happen. But, bitcoin must be adopted by one of the big online retailers. Without it, btc is just pure speculation with very little real world application. The price is too heavily inflated by speculative holders.

If and when amazon/eBay or similar adopt btc, then we will see huge growth.
Bitcoin can also just simply be used as an investment only currency. If it was the denominator of the altcoin market, just like fiat is the denominator for stocks, it would easily grow beyond 100k just based off of that alone.

Yes but then bitcoin becomes the Ponzi scheme most people are afraid it is. If it only grows because new people are investing in btc, which benefits the earlier investors, that is the clear definition of a ponzi/pyramid scheme.

I really think that to take it to the next level, it’s needs to be wifey accepted. And I don’t mean with small, niche retailers. A western organisation/retailer needs to get on board, and in my opinion this needs to be done in the next 12 months. I think after that, unless there is a real and fundamental change, people will start to doubt bitcoin.
