21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Appeal to the community for the development of MC2 and related technologies on: February 19, 2014, 07:05:13 PM
It's truly a community driven effort. The project appreciates all the help that we can get in order to bring this to the top! That would mean participation or suggestions regarding important decisions, such as the name, logo, color scheme, etc. So please use that Google Doc form!

Regarding the whole DarkNet movement, wouldn't it be more beneficial to change the name so that it doesn't have such negative connotations? This social movement won't reach momentum if it has undertones of criminal activity.

Something like OpenNet, FreeNet, Web 3.0 would be suffice. You need something that won't put people off initially, so that we can understand the core objectives and goals of the mission, especially with the tentative merging of Time Warner and Comcast.

25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MC2: A cryptocurrency based on a hybrid PoW/PoS system on: January 16, 2014, 09:07:09 AM
A quick update;

There are a lot of so-called "next gen" cryptocurrencies coming to the forefront.  We are watching these closely to see how they fare, including:
- nxt
- ethereum (source code)
- maako's UTXO ledger system/ultimate blockchain compression and his work towards contract scripting for Freicoin (Freimarkets)
- bitshares

Probably ethereum is the most interesting because it has a new "memory hard" hash algorithm (dagger) and a transaction scripting language that operates like a programming language.  The latter may turn out to be totally and crazily dangerous, but I'll keep an eye on it.  I contacted one of the lead devs behind it as we live close by, but I haven't heard back from him yet.

I want to keep MC2 dynamic, that is, if a new feature becomes something incredibly useful for a chain, we can place it into it with a hardfork.  I think modularity is key in keeping up with the ever-changing and rapidly growing world of cryptocurrency.  Beneath a layer of modularity I hope to maintain a robust, stable cryptocurrency system that addresses some of the fundamental shortcomings of Bitcoin.

I will get back to the remaining BMs/PGP keys later tonight.
vbuterin's Slasher POS is prettty interesting as well.

Will follow this!

Lots of attention and potential. Can we expect an announcement from taco soon?
28  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: NEW Giveaway for "MasterCoins" - the new protocol layer built on bitcoin on: October 25, 2013, 05:59:40 PM
can I buy one?
You can buy Mastercoins from these threads https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=287145.0 or from http://www.buymastercoin.com/

But if you would like to get some free Mastercoin follow the rules of this thread and you can get anywhere from 0.1-0.9 Mastercoin.

Thanks! Would like to have some mastercoins please!

Thanks for the heads up over the PM, LuckyBit.

Going to spend some time getting up to speed over this protocol

According to the rules you should do something to promote Mastercoin to get them. You can for instance make a tweet, or put it in your signature. The better you understand the protocol and better you explain it the more Mastercoins you'll get in the giveaway.

I would like some master coins please. My address is 1LophieEaKWKtqGWoTDp5TDhB7rGjneHep

Please follow the rules of the giveaway thread. Promote Mastercoin in some fashion. The deeper your understanding of the protocol and greater the effort the more Mastercoin you'll receive.

Thanks. Just added it in my sig.

Everyone close to the project is still active. If new ideas that seem useful come to the forefront, they will be added.  There are some potential devs that we are actively talking to.  It's hard to find people seriously dedicated to putting in all the effort required.

Alt coins are not comfortable to SHA256 mining.

Anything we can do to help? Post hiring posters or anything? I would love to capitalize on the China interest.

Maybe if there is a infographic that outlines the requirements and salary options we can spread that and get some more leads for you.

Lots of interested people following this project. Would love to use this resource instead of having then idly wait.

This looks like an interesting crowd funding platform that we can launch our project with. Plus, the idea of a peer review is very interesting.

Or at least a one month outlook? There was momentum. Now it appears to be completely halted. However Tacos been online

LuckyBit brought up the Amazon EC2 problem and I was wondering if that has been addressed at all during this release.

http://bitcoinnews.io/dan-kaminsky-predicts-the-end-of-the-current-proof-of-work-function/

Around the 40 minute mark on the Security Panel at Bitcoin 2013 (video starts at 40 mins), Dan Kaminsky predicts that the current proof-of-work function isn’t going to be used by the end of the year — he assigns 0% probability it’s going to be used. A move away from ASICs, and back to mining with CPUs!

CPUs at the ready…
