21  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PSA: 'Bitcoins' in Ripple are not Bitcoins. They are not real, can be seized. on: May 16, 2013, 07:51:18 AM

Your balances on Ripple are not real. They don't exist, they never existed in the first place and will never exist. Some people honor their printed Ripple balances, but for how long?
...

mayby you should explain why you are paying thousands of dolars to people on this forum to say ripple is scam before we start taking you are saying seriously
22  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why Ripple™ is against everything Bitcoin on: May 14, 2013, 12:25:51 PM

Don't forget that an OpenCoin Inc employee stated that if BTC gets 51% attacked, you lose all your bitcoins (you don't), but if Ripple gets attacked, you still have your XRPs (that's correct). I hope he's incompetent rather than purposefully misleading.

dont listen to this guy, he offered up to 5BTC to some people to post on this forum that Ripple is scam. Nobody is gonna give away thousands of dolars just because he is good guy and he thinks ripple is scam a people should know it, he has got some side interest and wants Ripple to fail.

see

and here you can see he already payed more than 20+ BTC to spread his message

since the opencoins business model is to hold XRP, give some for free, work hard on Ripple and hope it will succeed so XRP will appreciate, then i would say that investing in this company is basically the same like buying XRP
XRP are basically "glue" to prevent transaction spam. If XRP appreciates enough such that transactions are prohibitively expensive they will just release more into the system (for example by giving more away, or selling cheaply) to damp the price. So the upside is limited.

i dont think they are going to give XRPs for free after they are out of beta. Also i have read somewhere that transaction fees are dynamic, if it becomes expensive to make transaction they will decrease the cost of it.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Why bitcoin sucks" (An Ironic Piece from Keynesian perspective) on: May 11, 2013, 01:16:51 PM
Thank you, great write up. Keynesian economics has proven very useful in the past. I don't think anybody could argue it hasent. And your ironic piece makes a case well worth consideration.

Perhaps the useful aspects of Keynesian economics can still be adapted for use with bitcoin. For example, gov can still hold btc and increase spending during recession. And it can still create policy that encourage spending, licenses, tax incentives etc. And btc can still be taxed, even if it is harder to trace earnings. Tax is basically an honest system now, requiring that we self report our earnings. Most people will still do the right thing.
But Governments cant print more, or de-value btc. Time will tell if that's a good or bad thing. I'm no expert, but I'm leaning toward it being a good thing.

I think the biggest problem our financial system presents, is not that its failing, or problems of adapting to a new type of currency (btc). I think the biggest problem is our markets only work if they are expanding, driving gov policy toward population growth, and ever increasing exploitation of earths resources. I wonder if btc could somehow become part of a new system structure which was able to maintain steady state, rather than perpetual growth. Afterall, perpetual growth is impossible in a finite world, so if we don't want to bust, we need to solve this issue.
I don't personally know how btc could achieve this, but it certainly has a whole new set of possibilities which haven't been considered before.

thats where i stopped reading

You guys want a reason to invest in Ripple -> http://a16z.com/ Boom. You think these billionaires didn't comb through OpenCoin's 5-yr plan with a magnifying glass the size of Texas? They see a money maker and honestly so do I. At the very least it's a worthy way to diversify.
They invest in the company. That makes much more sense than buying XRP as an investment.
