It can be safe but also can be scams. You need to look into them before you jump into them.

Research is always the best way to go. Do your own research, see what other people have to say about it.

There are many airdrops now. Just go to altcoin announcement  thread then you can find what you want like airdrops.

If you are looking to put 2k into one altcoin i would recommend ETH. Otherwise i also recommend splitting it around a bit. Do some research and find what you like, follow the crypto-news and try to predict the market.

Well now the question is can it hit 1k by January 2018, and i would say yes it will.

Alot of people say ICO's are the fastest way to earn a profit while others say its pure scam. So it depends on the ICO, it can be risky but it can also be very rewarding with enough research.
