21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Heres what I have created to induce mass adoption on: May 31, 2013, 06:00:13 PM
Great idea ! Agree about the get rich thing. Page 1 looks great, but I would consider changing the layout of page 2, it made me think of e-meters and people yelling at ashtrays. Would not mention filesharing either, but completely agree that knowing your audience is essential.
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Paper Wallets : Do you somehow validate that the pk QR work b4 using? on: May 31, 2013, 04:57:04 PM
Hey,

I'm about to move some funds to a paper wallet, but then I got spooked, thinking that the possibility of my printer making an invisible, but damaging print error in the private key QR, could exist. Ok, i could then type the key, but the pk font (at least in the default template from bitaddress.org) is tiny and smudge prone on a less than great printer, and it would be a bit unnerving.

Do you personally somehow validate that the pk QR's work before putting btc on pw address ?
Can someone recommend a trusted, offline paper wallet thingy that prints the pk a bit larger?
Does anyone use special paper ? (photo paper/settings even??)

I could just scan the pk with QR droid on my phone to verify, but then it's not truly 100% cold anymore.

Thanks for input !

23  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: raw transaction over json/post - am i doing it right ? on: May 31, 2013, 03:08:53 PM
I am about to play around with this myself, so im interested in the solution.

I may be wrong, and it is untested, but i believe that the entire jsonrpc params should be an array. For the createrawtransaction you need two elements. First element is another array, containing the inputs. Second element is the address. Maybe something like:

{"jsonrpc": "1.0", "id":"rqid547333300","method": "createrawtransaction",

"params": [[ {"txid":"xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx","vout":0}],  {"xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx":0.00500000} ]

}

Thank you sir ! : ) I fully agree about the domain name, it's an old one that i decided to use for now. "orz" is btw a japanese emoticon depicting a person on his knees banging head into ground lol. (and an alien race in 1990 game "Starcontrol")

25  Economy / Service Announcements / Free upgrades for registered users - bitcoinwebtools.com on: May 30, 2013, 08:30:52 AM
Update 05/30

I can now welcome you to bitcoinwebtools.com !

For now, the site is just a frontend for my Address Balance Tool, but when I complete more solutions, they will also appear at this site.

I'm considering making the site into an open portal for blockchain web tools, providing space for "ads", in the format displayed on the site, for a symbolic fee (going directly to my aws ec2 bill).  Would anybody be interested in the possibility of presenting their projects on such a portal ?

Thanks for reading !

Hi

This is a crosspost, but my original post in the noob section dropped down like a rock. Hope it's ok.

--------------------------

I wanted to take a try at making a "show address balances" - webapplication, so I built this webapp with node.js and socketstream, using the blockchain.info json rest api and the mtgox.com api for the exchangerates. It was built for personal use, but it works reasonably well, so I thought I would share it with the community. The interface is updated real-time (10 sec + blockchain.info api latency) and visual clues will be (should be) provided upon any changes in a monitored address' balance.

I am very interested in working/coding together with anyone with ideas or input on this or other projects. Please reply in this thread.

The site : http://orz.dk:8130/

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please note that this is a public beta. Any data you enter on the site may be lost, and any data displayed on the site, including balances and exhangerates, may be slightly inaccurate or completely wrong. (please report in the thread)

Please also note that although you have the possibility of making a donation towards a personal account (to enhance the site functionality available to your account) - which is greatly appreciated, donating does not firmly guarantee any future service availability.

Never use sensitive login/pass combinations that you have used elsewhere, and generally never trust any unknown site with any personal information.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To try it out, you simply click the "Create User" button without providing any other information. This will create a temporary account without any save capabilities. Add addresses by using the textboxes below the information area. Adding addresses will create an information box in the middle area that will go green when balance>=due balance.

If you enjoy the tool, you can create a 'real' user. To do this, simply remove the checkmark from the "Test account" checkbox before clicking "Create User". Now you will get a personal donation address in the box above the information area. Donate 0.005 BTC to this address, and the save-button will be enabled as soon as the blockchain sees the transaction. Remember the username ! : ) (and pass if you entered one)

Please comment, and please report bugs and general sucksness.

26  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Local interfacing with the bc-qt json rpc api on: May 28, 2013, 06:58:11 PM
I think you are completely right that it's best to just go with known technology. I have almost exclusively worked with web and javascript lately and i'm a bit rusty in client application technology but decided to go with .NET for now. The free VS Express Desktop Edition should be able to do the job, and i've done a fair amount of business webapps in c# before, that should work : ).

With regards to Java, i should probably have used the term infrastructure rather than environment, it's not that i dislike Eclipse IDE as such, and the others IDEs you mention are probably even better. I have built a few Android SDK apps, and it was fun, it just doesn't appeal to me as a desktop application infrastructure, i'm not completely sure why.

An additional question, does anyone know if Mutibit/Armory/Electrum has rpc capabilities similar to the classic qt client ?

Thanx !
27  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Local interfacing with the bc-qt json rpc api on: May 28, 2013, 05:47:38 PM
Hi

A couple of  questions... I'm looking for suggestions or opinions on the "best" approach to connect to the bitcoin-qt json rpc api, get some data, and present it in some way in a windows client. Most important is that it should be a *local* solution, connecting to the client (api) outside any web/internet context, preferably in a desktop'ish app.

I have considered:

- Java application. Language is ok as such, but not too keen on the java environment : (

- .NET application. Maybe something. Would be easy to present trxs in grids, and prob graphs too

- python. Never coded a line. Would it fit this need?

- qt. Is based on c++. No time to learn right now.

- Any other suggestions ?

Second question: Can anyone recomment any existing solutions (advanced client frontend with json call capabilities) ?

Thanx

Hi

I am a javascript/node.js/.NET programmer, with a background in Data Modelling, SQL and Business Intelligence. I am currently working on SocketStream real-time solutions, and generally trying to find my way around the blockchain and the bitcoin-qt api. I've been on the bitcoin train for just three weeks. I've tried to mine a little, but with a GTX285 the rig is nothing but a very expensive heat source.

I am very interested in working together on BTC projects, big or small, if anybody needs a resource.

I have put this little tool live today : http://orz.dk:8130/
