If you're on windows and launching the command prompt, you can right click the title bar, select properties, and in the "Layout" tab alter the screen buffer size (line width and scroll history) and the window size (viewport size).

There are ways to launch cmd.exe by passing parameters to it for things like colors.  It seems like I used to make a shortcut for a cmd window that came up resized and spiffily-colored, but I don't recall.  I use Linux now so it's been a while since I cared how Windows cmd works.  I have to use it still, but I don't spend enough time to customize it.

HTH.

The difficulty is changing rapidly on the coins that bring most newbies into mining, but there are a lot of options to mine "alt coins" with a GPU or two on a hobby level.  Even making a rig or two can gain some spare cash if you're just looking at it from a fun perspective and not trying to make big bank.  Smiley

A vote here for the MSI 7950's.  I've got a bunch of them and they work great.  Voltage is decent stock and it can be overclocked well.  You can also undervolt these and save some juice/heat.

The stock heat management is also pretty good with the giant cooling setup.

Greetings! - I run www.WhereToMine.com - and I'm the worlds worst poker player :|

I visit your site at least 4 or 5 times a day.
It has been a great resource for me.

Awesome!!! Glad you find it helpful!

I have a thread on here just for WhereToMine.com - I recently have it pulling from multiple sources now so that I shouldn't have any more data outages.

Glad to hear about those improvements.  I dig your site, too. Thanks for the work on it.

...oh, and "hello" to the OP. Smiley
32  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it worth it to get a BFL bitcoin miner? on: June 13, 2013, 02:00:28 AM
I've been on the fence regarding an ASIC miner purchase, too.  I've run a ton of calculations based on various estimates of difficulty in the next 4-5 months.  Unfortunately, it's very hard to know what is a "best case" scenario or "worst case" since there's so much going on in the ASIC realm right now and "soon."

I've run projections around 15-30 times the current difficulty just to make sure I'm thinking critically about where all these new ASIC miners will be taking things.  There are several companies promising great products, but not much is proven yet.

I put a lot of mileage into this calculator to help think through it:

https://bitclockers.com/calc

Just remember to run estimates down the road a ways and not just based on when you first get it.  Calcs like the one linked help to estimate taking monthly diff increase into account.

Still not sure what I'm going to do about all this ASIC-ness.  I need to read up more on these BFL units to see whether I want to jump on something like this.

Same here... I've been reading posts here for a long time, but never made an account.  That's what I get for being antisocial!

Cheers.

I wish I would have bothered to register an account a year ago when I was first reading posts here.  Now I have to resort to pretending I'm part of conversations to get the requisite post count up.

That's what I get for being such a lurker all the time.   Undecided
