You're not properly connecting to the IRC. Could someone post a list of nodes for this guy to add? I'm on mobile right now.

The only reason the other wallets are working is because you have a peers.dat file for them already.

Artos, what did you think of my idea of consolidating 1 year old transactions?

Is it possible? Or do I simply have a misconstrued idea of the purpose of transaction fees and blockchain size among other things?
That's essentially block chain pruning, and it's already in the works for bitcoin.

Pushed out a small fix for those of you having sync issues.

https://github.com/stablecoin/stablecoin-qt/archive/master.zip

If you're still having issues with the new client, then the problem is on your end somewhere. Check your ports, firewall, etc.

Downloaded the latest client. Deleted the /AppData/Roaming/Stablecoin folder and overwrote the Stablecoin files with the latest version.
Ensured that all ports are working (all my other wallets work fine).

Still not connecting. Sad

Site has been updated. Link to the forums has been added as well as the new mac client.

Is there no link to the stable coins forum from the main stablecoin website? It really should be on there.
Probably will be added very soon.

Do people even use the actual website to look for necessary SBC resources? It is hard to use IMO and has very little information on the website as if it were designed for a tablet or a smartphone and not for actual computers. Whenever I am looking for SBC information I go to this thread and never the website.

This is an example of a good cryptocurrency website that I actually use over the thread to get more information on the coin: http://digitalcoin.co/en/

Lots of information, different pages, lots of links and resources, links to pools; basically all the information anyone could want about Digital Coins is on that page, for Stable Coins however, if you want more information you're going to have to come to this thread. The Digital Coins website is also designed in a way that it's acceptable for Computers, Tablets, and Smartphones.
The site isn't meant to compete with or replace this thread. It's main goal is to serve as a gate for newcomers to learn about the basics, provide them with a basic services list (such as block explorer, pool, etc), provide them with the client, etc. They should then branch out and find either this thread, or the official forums.

I checked out the digitalcoin site, and all of the information covered on there is also on the StableCoin site, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

The forum needs to be more polished for sure, but I'm sure it'll get to the point where we can use it properly Smiley I'm also interested in seeing the forum that the other member is working on.
It's being switched over to SMF (the same software this forum runs on). It'll look great. Smiley

STABLECOIN OFFICIAL FORUMS

http://forums.stablecoin.net

There have been a lot of requests for a forum flowing it, so I'm more than happy to deliver. It is extremely barebones right now - sporting a default theme and only one subforum. I'll have it fully set up within the next 24-48 hours. Feel free to reserve your username on there until then, or use it as it is Wink

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge in this aspect, but does a 60 second block time mean 60 second transactions now instead of 40? Or no?

Transactions were never 40 seconds to begin with because of the multipools. Block times were ranging anywhere from 3 seconds to 10 minutes. With this newest change, they should be fairly consistent around 60 seconds.

I'm a bit clueless here.

How to update client? Should I back up the wallet first? After backing up a wallet, how do I load it up again?

What is going to happen to the pools? Are they going to go offline for a bit to update?

Thanks
No need to backup the wallet. Just delete your old stablecoin-qt.exe and use the new one.

Pools will have 2 weeks to update.

RELEASE - VERSION 1.4

This is a mandatory update before block 312000, approximately 2 weeks from now. The update consists of the following changes:

*Difficulty algorithm changed. Now retargets every 10 blocks, with a maximum of 12% down, or 10% up
*Target block time changed to 60 seconds
*MAX_MONEY reflected to a more proper value
*Alert key updated

The new difficulty algorithm will keep the multipools from jacking the difficulty up and abandoning the coin. The benefits of this should be obvious to all involved.

You may be wondering why the block time was 'changed' to 60 seconds. Blocks were already being generated at this rate due to multipool influence. Since the coin has been launched, the multipools have been wreaking havoc on the difficulty, causing less blocks to be created each day than what was programmed in. If you check the block explorer, typically around 1400-1600 blocks are being created per day, this averages out to about 60 seconds. To avoid a sharp increase in the supply rate, the new rates have been created with this in mind.

Changing the block target time to 60 seconds keeps the generation rate in line with what it has been. The same amount of blocks will be generated each day. However, the key difference is that now the blocks will be going to dedicated StableCoin miners, and not to the multipools. This benefits the miners, of course, but also benefits the investors/speculators. When multipools mine, they instantly dump the coin at market price. Steady miners are less likely to do this.

These new settings will also decrease the amount of orphans/rejects experienced, as blocks will have additional buffer time to propagate the network. This is especially important as we move into more and more foreign markets.

So, all in all, we have the same amount of coins being generated, but with more of them going to the steady miners, and less being dumped on the exchanges. A win/win scenario for everyone - except the multipools, of course. Wink

STABLECOIN DEVELOPMENT FUND

I've received several PMs asking if there was a SBC development fund set up. The answer to that - now there is.

These funds will be fully accounted for through a ledger in the main post and will be used for the following:

*Further development
*Fund necessary activities such as marketing, translation, etc
*Fund the development of various services
*Giveaways
*Bounties
*Other uses as the community sees fit

If you would like to contribute to this fund, the address to send to is shQpTvLDsgCURkfqyBuCjL79aqYwti2FEJ

PLANNED HARDFORK

The previously mentioned hardfork will be released sometime this week. This hardfork will feature a revamp of the difficulty adjustment algorithm and it's goal is to prevent the high difficulty stallouts caused by multipools. It will also reduce the amount of orphans and rejects that miners are seeing. This will result in a more steady block flow, and increased profitability for steady SBC miners. A full change log will be posted upon release.

Hello, I'm making a polish translation (I hope you're not mad for registering the domain by myself and copying the english website): http://stablecoin.pl/
Smiley
I'll add it shortly.

how about a Turkish one? Turkish cryptominers and exchangers are very active nowadays, there is a Turkish sub-forum in bitcointalk too. If you are going to add to your home page, I would gladly translate for Turkish too Smiley Downloaded files already, just poking me is enough

Hey kizilsakal, glad to hear that! If you provide a solid turkish translation, I'm sure it will be added. Wink
Yes.

A hardfork will likely be issued in the days to come to update the difficulty algorithm to something more... Modern.

Multipools weren't a thing when SBC was first created. Might as well deal with the issue now, before we grow any further.

The genesis block issue has already been explained in the main post. The technical details of what this change does are also explained. To reiterate, these coins are not spendable. I invite anybody with a deep understanding of bitcoin to assert otherwise.

What everyone seems to be worried about is the rogue developer situation, wherein the developer pushes out code that the community would deem to be malicious in nature. I'm a huge fan of game theory, so let's go through some possible things a rogue developer could do in a situation like this.

1) Push out a client that contains a keylogger / wallet stealer / other malicious code.
2) Push out a client that has a backdoor in the transaction verification system, allowing the creation and spending of an unlimited amount of coins.
3) Push out a client that makes the genesis block spendable again.

Scenario 3 is the most noticeable and least profitable of the three. It is a wholly worse variation of scenario 2. It would make no sense for a malicious actor to engage in scenario 3, when superior options are at his disposal. So, we can rule scenario 3 out of the equation. That leaves scenarios 1 and 2, which can be done on any coin, not just StableCoin. If you are worried about this sort of thing happening, your worry should extend to all coins, not just StableCoin.

This is why all code is open source and available for peer review. If someone attempted to launch such an attack, it would be in plain sight for everyone to see, and would get called out very quickly.
