Hey folks... By all means, when 8-bit-party uploads a new bootstrap go with that, as it'll be current with the blockchain...

BUT, in the meantime, I have this one available on the 8bitcoin web site, it's about a month old.

.LINK REMOVED.

EDIT: I've removed the link as per 8-bit-party who is going to be providing a new, up-to-date bootstrap file today.

SCAM coin

That was like a drive-by.... At least in the past FUD'ers would try to back up their claims! wow...
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: August 21, 2016, 09:24:08 PM
It's a second option of course. We agree "the last" block of current block chain, then scan all balances of all non-empty addresses at given height, take a sum of those balances, start a new chain with premined amount equal to that sum, then recreate balances on the chain by sending coins to each address.

I am all for this!!
Sooooo, I'm thinking we might want to have some discussion about lessons we may have learned.... Meaning, after running our current chain for the last 18'ish months, what changes might we also want to make?

One specific random idea, formerly active user here "drays" said he wrote some code to allow safe transfers of masternode profits to another wallet without stepping on your original masternode funds and breaking the node, but said he couldn't commit it to github.   We might want to take him up on that.

Also, no opinion here (yet), but what about the basics, do we still want to turn over to many blocks as quickly as we do?  Are there places you might suggest some more efficiency, or something more robust (stronger)?  I mean, I'm ALL FOR THIS! BUT, let's do this in such a way that we can move this coin forward, not just reboot the chain... ya know?!

I'm thinking lets figure out a method for the main players here to communicate while this pulls together... You (of course!), drays if we can pull him (and his code snippet) back in, skidog, someone to deal with bittrex while we work our collective magic, etc. Are you willing to use any communication method specifically, slack maybe?

What's the problem with coin swap?

That all depends on what you mean by coin swap...

If we're talking about a buyout for another established coin, like MTR was saying a while ago... I'm not going to be such a big fan.   Sad

BUT! If we're talking about basically restarting our blockchain with something new/better, with an automated buy-in/balance for our existing coins, than I'm a big fan! How can I help?! Cheesy

Bittrex  Wallet Maintenance ?

8-bit-party, can you help me figure out this addnode thing... so we can get everyone's wallets on the same page? (especially the exchanges) puhleeeeze?

Even if there's nothing left in the future besides some kind of coins swap (something I'm fighting to avoid), even that doesn't work unless our collective wallets are on the same chain...

Soooo, the only thing I just don't get, is if every addnode I've seen is answering on port 18888, then it doesn't seem to be people's masternodes (at least not that port), and if most have NOT opened that port on their firewalls/routers/etc, how does this work from the client side of the connection?  what did you use to populate the 8-bit.party addnodes we used before the domain lapsed? Once again, I'll be happy to host this if needs be....
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: August 20, 2016, 08:01:09 PM

8BIT is the most underrated coin.

I COMPLETELY agree! That's why I've been trying to work with our remaining community members to put this coin back on top! (where it could totally belong!)
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: August 20, 2016, 07:46:02 PM
How much 8bit coins I need for run 1 master node ?

Thanks

Just 112 coins.
Which at the current rate of exchange (Bittrex) is a whopping BTC0.00360632 satoshi.

Now, if we can only get our house in order to get things rolling on the exchanges again.

I've got two wallets running, both version 2.1.2.0, both running on Ubuntu 16.04, one staking, and one masternode...

Soooo, my masternode (which is NOT staking, I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be or not) is earning/masternoding just fine... However, although my "staking" wallet says "staking active", has not earned anything, and I've been running it for over two days at this point.  Any ideas?
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: August 20, 2016, 06:26:47 PM
To everyone with wallet up and running: what's your current height?

At the moment, I'm running three wallets... But, unfortunately all three are reloading the blockchain, and all three are having difficulty finding hosts to connect to.. (thus the need to figure out some set addnodes)

1. 555558 (this is the wallet powering the block explorer and the faucet.)
    2 connections

2. 568480 (masternode)
    1 connection

3. 535004 (staking/regular node)
    2 connections

When the nodeXX.8-bit.party "addnodes" existed, I would average 10+ connections, and I'm guessing so did everyone else...

NOTE: The bootstrap.dat file downloadable on the new 8bitcoin website (http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/downloads/bootstrap_dat.tar.gz) was generated by me, on the faucet/block explorer wallet in mid-late July, and has 530000'ish blocks in it.

So 8-bit-party, question... (and this is maybe the only part of the addnode thing I'm a little lost on) Soooo, maybe after 18 years in IT I'm overthinking this, BUT, besides masternodes, generally speaking, the wallets don't have a opened listening TCP port... Soooo, I can query all the nodes I want, but it seems the connection is actually set up some other way... (IRC?) If I were to generate a list of decent current nodes, so we can give some decent resources to pulling everyone's wallets back together, how did you do this?  I mean the DNS and such is actually pretty easy (even scripted/smart) BUT, how do you actually generate the list of good known hosts?
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: August 19, 2016, 11:09:00 PM
Yes. What's the problem? With this code base and the blockchain bloated with tons of orphans there's not much you can do.

Well, I figured with the rest of the infrastructure strong (what I've been working on) and a strong community, we might be able to attract a new developer.

I asked you to help me with the addnodes, as that would help somewhat with the speed and fork issues in the short term, both publicly and over PM, but you haven't responded... so there's that.

Annnnnd, while looking at this, the wallet powering the faucet and block explorer is corrupt, again... reloading the block chain, again... Ugh.

So, again, publicly and directly, 8-bit-party, you seem to be the only person left in the community with some C skills and understanding of the code the wallet is based on.  I'm interested in trying to save this, and I think I've shown that with my recent efforts. I don't care if we swap out for a new blockchain or fix the existing one, sooooo, can I get your help here? Can we put some effort into releasing a new wallet? Can we move this forward?  I'm not bagging on you, I want to work with you to make this work, that's what I keep asking for.... how about it?

31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: August 19, 2016, 10:06:25 PM
Coin swap only.

Sorry, what?
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: August 18, 2016, 10:18:01 PM
I still have a ways to go in terms of formatting results and such, BUT, in it's most basic form, the block explorer is online and working (with the proviso that the wallet on my web server is still a day or two away from being fully synced at the moment... it's current block height is around 530000)

BUT, feel free to give it a shot!!! Block explorer is working here: http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/explorer.php

Cheers!

(and looking forward to some feedback!)
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: August 16, 2016, 07:13:06 AM
So, just checking in folks... Sorry, I've seemingly vanished, but life doesn't play well with peoples hobbies sometimes...

Anyway, I have been somewhat productive as far as 8bit goes as of late... As evidenced here http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com

Please take a look, obviously it has a ways to go, things like the block explorer, bounties page, and getting started documentation have yet to be built... BUT, I do feel I have a decent framework in place. Somewhere we can point new users, and somewhere to center our efforts. What I'd love to see at this point from you all is suggestions, and help writing some of this content... (Also, if anyone has the mac version of the wallet, that would be AWESOME!) So, if you've got some great ideas as to how to better attract new users, or additions and/or corrections to the existing text... (additions would be nice, admittedly there's not a ton of content there yet) please, let me have 'em!!

Lastly, I do believe we need some new addnode entries, my wallets have all forked and are rebuilding (including the faucet).  All on different forks too! So, instead of seeing 8 or 10 connections, they see 1 or 2, and the number of masternodes I'm seeing have also seriously shrunk, and the faucet's wallet is even on a VPS (as opposed to stuff in my house)... 8-bit-party, pretty please, can we have a conversation (I've PM'd you this) about how that should be working for all of us. Smiley

Anyway, what do you all think of the website?  I'll get an explorer working on it fairly shortly, and I'd still like to build a method for collecting donations for bounties, and rewarding those who achieve those goals... Where can we go from here?

PS - This is a "responsive" web site, meaning it'll also look good on your phones... It is 2016, even if our coin is retro branded. ;p
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: July 20, 2016, 05:16:16 PM
Hiya folks, sorry for some slow replies, I've been busy at work for the last few days.

Ok, where to start...

MTR - While I'm certainly not 8-bit-party (I'm not sure what "proof" you're asking for, but, read some history in this thread, he and I don't always see eye-to-eye, and if he made me up, it's been quite the ruse, considering it goes back a year and a half... I'm also under the impression we live on opposite sides of the globe, and no offense 8-bit-party, but I'm not sure English is his first language.  so I can most easily assure you, we're very different people.)  BUT, I'm also not willing to totally blow off his efforts to date, which have happened, and are NOT without value, regardless as to if you and he are prone to arguments, so, if 8-bit-party wants to continue helping, I'm happy to have it, just as I'm not willing to blow off the potential value you may offer either...
You are absolutely correct, there are absolutely 100 things that the 8bit community/ecosystem needs, and while I'm happy to have whatever realistic help we can attract.  (I do have an organized system of goals with built-in bounties in mind) Those bounties are going to be paid in 8bit from the community, as I don't believe there is going to be funding available in USD or BTC at this point.  So, when you have said in the past that you won't work for free, or that I should be prepared to work for free, I believe you are overestimating the "outside" funds available in this community, or underestimating the potential here with the "inside" funds.  Regardless, at this point, I would ask you the same thing I'm going to be asking everyone at this point... If you do see value here, and you really do want to help, what are you willing/able to commit to, and at what cost?

8-bit-party - Thanks for the respect, I'm going to PM you in a few, I have to get a solid idea of your actual, committed level of interest at this point, what you want to do, and if you can honestly commit to some goals in terms of timing and such... And, regardless of all that, I have some technical issues we need to discuss, as there are some things we can possibly solve some technical issues with the coin in the short-term...

skidog - I am absolutely all for this!  As we are all seemingly on different sides of the globe (memory serving/at the very least, you said you're in China, and I'm in the western USA) Any suggestions as to communication method? and timing?  (that isn't just for skidog, anyone who wants to be an active part of this community please, chime in! tell us all when/how you'd all like to talk!)

35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: July 17, 2016, 08:31:52 PM
I do not know how "host is down" notice can be a point to discuss.

I don't even specifically know if you actually own that domain, or the hosting even, I'm just pointing out alternatives where I can help.  That said, if you are looking to continue things in the vein they have been going, that's cool... But, allow me to point out.. The 8-bit.party domain is STILL dead, for over a week now.  All you've said is "whoops" and no action has been taken.  I really don't think my offering to help is really unfounded, I have resources to help, and I'm offering those resources, along with trying to get some conversation and excitement going about our coin's future.  Let's not get bitter here, let's work together to bring this to where it can be, seriously, it's worth it. Smiley
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: July 17, 2016, 07:39:15 PM
I wonder what is easier, being a fortune-teller or just sending a PM with an information that website is down.

I don't know, my fortune telling skills are pretty weak, thus why I've asked you some direct questions about your own view of your roll here...

If you're still motivated to be the dev, cool, lets discuss some goals, roadmapping, timelines, etc.  If not, then let's discuss a strategy for transition to another plan with your blessing/support.  I'm not dictating a thing, and I totally respect your efforts, I'm just trying to pull as many folks together as I can so we can move this adventure forward, in whatever direction makes sense.  I assure you, I'm not like MTR, I'm just trying to help...

If you think PM is better, by all means, please PM me, if not we can discuss this openly... Either way, I'm anxious to start this dialogue and once again put our 8bit mark on the altcoin communities as a whole... ya know?

Cheers. Smiley
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: July 16, 2016, 05:10:33 PM
allZuckedUp, we wait.

8-bit-party, OK... soooo, I guess that means you'd like me to play a greater roll then? You didn't exactly answer that... Annnnd, it also seems that you're not going to revive the old site you built, and there really is no code in the future from you? etc. etc.Huh?  It's cool, but if you're stepping aside, or not, please be clear about it.  What do you honestly see your place in this community/coin as going forward?  Really, what do you want to be doing here, and what can you REALLY commit to, and in what timeframe?  And if you are stepping aside, please provide me with the old website code/content so it can make what I've committed to easier/faster to build.

MTR, respect, but at this point your FUD isn't useful here...

skidog, you rock, thanks for the support....

All that said,
I have a day job, I'm a single parent, a girlfriend... i.e. - A life... Soooo, I can't promise to drop everything and put up a new "Official $bit website" in a few days... BUT, give me a few weeks, and I can put up something of value.  Now, I have no problem committing to the delivery of that, which should include not only download links/documentation/etc.  But eventually a block explorer, and certainly a bounty system for improvements to our code and such as well.... I do have some good ideas.  BUTTTT, I need to know this isn't me throwing my time/effort into the wind... What can you all do?  What do you want to do?  How to you all see this going forward?!? At some point, this needs to be a community driven effort.
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: July 08, 2016, 07:38:48 PM
Hiya folks!

Soooo, it seems we have another challenge here in 8bit-land.

Our favorite coin's main website (www.8-BIT.party) looks to be dead in a domain name has not been renewed sort of way.

So, once again, I'm more than happy to host things, donate some time and effort into building a new website, maybe make a new block explorer, etc. etc.  But, we're going to need to pull together the players who WANT to be involved at this point, and take some stock as to what road map we'd like to lay out for the coin.

It seems to me, that based on a lack of presence or progress, 8-bit-party isn't really interested anymore.  (8-bit-party, I'm not hating on  you, if I'm wrong, please tell me, and lets get this ball rolling again) And, while the tech is outstanding, and the community isn't nearly dead, we're not really moving forward at this time either.
I'd really like to turn this around.... soooo, here's some thoughts in no specific order....

  • IF 8-bit-party is really done with dev efforts on this coin, it would become necessary to recruit a new dev, the easiest way to do so seems to be some sort of confirmed bounty in $8bit donated by the rest of us.
  • A new "official" website needs to be created.  (I can do this)
  • It would be nice if a new block explorer could be a part of that.  (I can LIKELY do this)
  • Regardless as to if it's 8-bit-party or someone new as dev, a road-map needs to be laid out, things like attracting places to accept $8bit as payment, a new better performing client/blockchain, android/iOS versions, etc. etc.

It seems to me, if we can pull together some sort of confirmed leadership team, and meet some/all of these goals, it would not be too hard to put this coin back to where it should be both in terms of value and an active community.  So either by public or private response, let's get this rolling, who can do what?  If you don't have any IT skills, please pledge to donate coins to attract a new dev, if you do have IT skills tell us what you'd be honestly willing to do, if you've got honest C skills, let's talk development/new client version efforts!

It seems to me in a world where DASH is closest coin in terms of tech/features, but running a masternode there costs $6500 USD to get started, our $5 USD masternodes could attract a TON of people.... But, the problem is I don't currently know where to point folks to that idea.  Seriously, I can still see this taking off in a MAJOR way if we play our cards right, but I can't do this by myself... Who want's to play?  Who want's to see this thing get huge?

At this time I show 460 running masternodes on the network, to me that screams that there's still faith in this project... Let's make this happen. Cheesy

Any news on the wallet download location?

Yep! It's been up and working for a few days.. the Windows wallet can be downloaded from http://8bit.netspecto.com/downloads/8bit-qt-2.1-win.zip

Hi how are you? How can mine the currency?

The PoW (mining) period on this coin is long over.

There are three current ways to earn 8bit:
  • Run a masternode (initial investment is 112 8bit)
  • PoS (proof of stake,  it's kind of like an interest rate on a bank account)
  • Lastly, there is a faucet 8bit.netspecto.com which will get you some free 8bit, but at fairly standard faucet speeds,  but it's free!

For a fairly small investment the first two to generate a more-than-decent return. Much more than mining most other coins unless you're investing seriously in mining gear.

(disclaimer: I own and operate the 8bit faucet)
