I agree that most alts are complete garbage, but I think as the price of bitcoin rises, new people come in, and start buying some of the higher market cap alts (even some of the useless ones) that are available on big exchanges. I still mine ETH and XMR, but that's the extent that I'm even remotely interested in any alt coin these days.

It's honestly comical when you look at some of the alts that people were going crazy about two years ago.

It seems finally POS will happen next year to dear Ethereum. What is home miners planning to do?

I'm going to say no on that one.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's huge carbon footprint - deal breaker on: June 25, 2019, 11:45:30 PM
Well, in this world where people actually care about the planet - you can't say this is any good...
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/06/14/tech/bitcoin-carbon-footprint-trnd/index.html

Bitcoin is definitely spewing out WAY TOO much carbon dioxide and is going to kill us all.  Can't fix it either because the entire notion of blockchain requires competitive mining.  It is only going to get much worse as Bitcoin value increases.  Total ruin.

I really think this is the death knell for Bitcoin.

Nope  Grin Here you go ... Try and educate yourself.

26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ventilation - Is this going to work? on: May 10, 2019, 01:54:16 PM
I ended up going with one of these in the ceiling to pull air out of the room ...

https://quietcoolsystems.com/products/classic/

And one of the Air King window fans (linked above) to pull air into the room. It's been working great since the spring of 2018. A year later and I'm about to enter my second summer of mining.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: April 29, 2019, 11:22:43 PM
What are your guys' thoughts on Tether? I'd ignored a lot of it prior to now, but WSJ is a little more reputable IMO.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/bitfinex-used-tether-reserves-to-mask-missing-850-million-probe-finds-11556227031?mod=rsswn

Major newsie outlets are the least reputable outlets to be getting cryptocurrency news from. I didn't read the article, but USDT has been a concern for quite some time. The recent news isn't fake, if that's what you're asking.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are Mining Still Profit? on: April 14, 2019, 04:09:26 PM
At actual price levels mining with Rx 570/580 series with an energy cost of 0.07 dollar kilowatt is profitable, very little but it is and as long as is profitable why not mine ?

If you're going to mine crypto, mine crypto. Doesn't matter if it is profitable or not (on a daily, weekly, monthly basis). You either believe in the space long-term, or you do not.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
The question how long we will get our ROI and remember there was a lot of various things can happen to reduce our profit just like when there will be more miners interested join in the mining and that makes difficulty gets increase quickly. mining is not so easy just like you want to get a coin from block reward.

ROI doesn't even enter into the equation for me. I never even think about it. And with 30 gpu's, you can do that. Hold onto your mined coins or trade them for what you believe in long-term. Pay your electricity costs without selling any of your mined coins. A large scale farm isn't going to have the ability to do that in most cases, but a small home mining operation can.

30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Roger Ver owning Bitcoin.com on: March 24, 2019, 01:25:06 AM
Worrying about such things is a quick route to becoming a frothing maniac. You could say the same about every single Bitcoin-related handle. Bitcoin itself is bigger than these things and will still be chugging long after Mr. Ver has uploaded his mind into a probe and departed the solar system. It's on whoever gets into BTC to know what the score is with everything they encounter.

Agreed. It's a non-issue at this point. Not even worth the hassle of wasting precious thought about. If this is high on someones priority list, they are missing out on so much. There are still only 24 hours in each day.

I will not believe this not unless the OP provide a link or visual proof of his 10 Bitcoin going to the address of the scam exchange site.

No one needs you to believe it.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: “Cryptos” - A new tv show about cryptocurrency on: March 05, 2019, 05:34:03 PM
They are just looking for the new thing because Hollywood is out of ideas and constantly pumping out remakes of original movies.  I didn't like Kevin Connelly and the show entourage, there is something very unlikeable about his smug arrogance.  The same goes for Mark Wahlberg.

Who did you have in mind? Bob Saget? Lol.
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: “Cryptos” - A new tv show about cryptocurrency on: March 05, 2019, 04:45:02 PM
am i the only one noticing that the name is already terrible!

"crypto" does not mean "cryptocurrency". in fact crypto refers to cryptography which is only something that cryptocurrencies are using. calling it "cryptos" is a bad idea because if the show becomes popular it would be actually changing the meaning of the name and mislead people.

....and since they have already gotten the name wrong i wouldn't get my hopes up for them getting much else right!

They both begin with the same six characters, so it's a bit childish to say that just because one arrived first, they are the only crowd allowed to use a short name for their term  Grin

Venezuela is the perfect example that it doesn't matter if you're interested in politics or not, politics is interested in you, or more specifically, your money.

Are you even allowed to legally mine in Venezuela? From what I've heard the power is subsidised by the government and you are not permitted to mine at all.

I remember back when Bitcoin and Eth were at all time highs, the Venezuela army basically arrested anyone that was caught running any type of farm whether it was an ASIC farm or a GPU farm.

Aside from 1 or 2 GPUs, you werent permitted to mine at all.

I haven't seen many articles about Venezuelan mining from about June of 2018 onwards, but last I saw the customs in Venezuela were confiscating miners that they found and stopping mining operations that they found like you said. Rules on mining there might have been changed a bit and might not be so strict anymore which might be why there hasn't been much news about mining there recently, but either way it's really not worth mining in a place where electricity isn't stable and things aren't stable in general.

There are plenty of podcast interviews out with those who live or have lived in Venezuela that describe how hard it is to get mining equipment into the country, corrupt govt agencies making deals with miners, those same agencies stealing equipment to use in their own farms ... Those (whoever advised on moving to Venezuela) who make the choice to distance themselves from international politics and reside in a free country will never understand what really goes on outside of their zone. Advice from those individuals should be taken with a grain of salt.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Profitability Thoughts for Mining? on: February 13, 2019, 08:36:55 PM

if you say that then clearly you dont know what is happening there, venezuela is the last place a person should go these days.

OP, as you are in asia then go to Myanmar as is the cheapest in asia as per the image. If you believe cryptocoin prices will rise then you must know is a accepted loss if it doesn't.
I really do not have much knowledge about venezuela.

That's certainly true  Grin
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monero will fork at block 1788000 (March 9th) on: February 12, 2019, 03:03:50 AM
Yeah this will be third XMR fork as a miner to kick out the undesirables. I'm doing exactly what I have done in the past. A month or two prior to the scheduled fork, when the network difficulty goes sky high, I switch my Vega rig to something else. And then I hop right back on post fork.
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Monero In 2019 on: January 18, 2019, 03:46:26 PM
I'm using Nanopool but last time I also noticed some decrease in profit. It is related to FPGA and Asics arriving in the network.

Monitor the network difficulty. It has went up quite a bit over the past week or so.

Glad my Cryptopia account only contained dust. Another shitty exchange goes down.

I've been using the SUPPORTXMR pool for over a year now. I've used it with XMR-STAK and CASTXMR miners.
