21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Explaining Bitcoin to a non-believer on: June 27, 2013, 05:53:38 AM
Bitcoin is an experiment in irreversible digital value transfer and storage.  It is not ready for the world.  That said, it is usable and there is a lot of potential upside if it is able to sustain itself until it is ready.

Right, but saying that to them just gets a reply of "exactly" its a scam and you'll loose your money, etc. Im just trying to show how it makes sense and can eventually be a valid, widy used currency, not "monopoly money"

23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Explaining Bitcoin to a non-believer on: June 27, 2013, 05:30:05 AM
I need some good arguments for bitcoin, or at least links to the best articles you know of.  My parents, as well as many other people I try to explain the whole system to are very skeptical and refer to it as my "fake" money. I try to tell them and show that you can buy most anything with it and that it has a true use in real-life; yet they qute Warren Buffet for saying he has no money in it, among other investors.

What do you say to someone who wont accept the facts of the system? They just shoot down the "mining" process and say nothing is backing bitcoin so you can easily loose all your money, etc.

Any help would be great, or at least a reference to another thread. Thanks!

Some feedback:

Love the site, it is simple to navigate (although eventually will need graphic updates, etc).

Bets are easy to make, its quick to see who won/lost

The only negative I can see is that its addicting Smiley one more roll..one more roll... haha. Great job man. Thanks for the bitcent to try it out!

I would like AM to be worth $192 billion one day.

A billion isnt cool. Ya know whats cool? A Trillion.

Well, a good first reason is it makes it harder for persons to create sock accounts and troll/scam/etc. Also, it gives people a chance to learn and read, rather then spamming questions that have already been clearly answered many times before, as well as learn rules, trusted users, etc.

I have just voted on the questions for friedcat. Now I'm offering my opinion out loud - while we all love the high dividends, and have no doubt that the management team have excelled themselves so far, I think it's time that AM increased its transparency. Things like a quarterly earnings report, annual balance sheets and so forth.

Berkshire Hathaway is a good example of a successful company with a no-frills website that contains all the information an investor needs:

http://www.berkshirehathaway.com

I think offering the same level of information to shareholders is a worthwhile and realistic goal for AM.

Berkshire Hathaway is also worth nearly $192 billion dollars.

Exactly.

Dont mind TECHICENINE btw, hes been spreading garbage posts; you should ignore him like many others.

Oh, okay. Thank you for clearing that up Smiley Any idea who runs the one on Havelock? All I can get is a phone number and Im interested in transferring shares in MPEx
32  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: June 25, 2013, 09:29:08 PM
A little off topic but.. anyone have information about the S.DICE on Havelock/ is there gonna be a dividend payment this month?

ummm, how is that off-topic? They will have dividends on Havelock if there are dividends paid out by S.DICE.

I ment in the sense that we were talking about G.DICE and I didnt know if there was a difference; my apologies.

33  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER Speculation Thread on: June 25, 2013, 06:54:49 PM
They should also all stop this nonsense of reporting and paying dividends weekly, it is a distraction and is not done in 'the real world' for a good reason i.e. income volatility and it's a waste of time.
Nonsense.
In a risky business such as Bitcoin I can't trust anyone for a long period, hence I demand fast and abundant revenues in order to be interested.

I prefer daily dividend, if they do daily dividend , then the share price will pump again.

Somebody could make a new PT that pays out the weeks dividends every day instead xD

And then someone will want hourly dividends... xD
