21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hive OS. №1 OS for mining on: December 20, 2020, 12:22:04 AM
I use HiVEOS, and use 4 x 5600 xt cards.  the only miner I can run that is stable is teamredminer.  I really would prefer PhoenixMiner 5.4 but each time I do, each of my 4 GPUs error out immediately and say this :

Allocating buffers failed with: clCreateBuffer (-4).

then the rig reboots.

If I run on teadredminer the rig is stable.  Any idea what could cause this to be unstable with PhoenixMiner but ok with teamredminer?

for 5600xt make sure you download the beta version

it seems in order to use the zombie mode in lol, we need to add a new parameter to the miner at boot called "keepfree" and provide a value.  Here is what they said.  Not sure how I can add the keepfree value from the HiveOS UI?

How to set it up

There is only one thing that lolMiner need to know to run the zombie mode successfully. This is the last epoch the miner can run without issues in the normal mining mode, so lolMiner does not allocate more memory then it can without messing things up.
The only parameter to influence this is “ keepfree” which gives the number of megabytes the miner shall not use on the card to reserve it for the system.
By default this value is set to 56 MBytes in Windows and 5 MBytes in Linux, which should work fine. But how to try out?
The easiest way is to benchmark lolMiner at an epoch that is larger then 383 — in this case all the 4G cards will enter the Zombie mode and use as much memory as the default “keepfree” allows. To do so run e.g. benchmark for epoch 385:

In Linux:
./lolMiner --benchmark ETHASH --benchepoch 385 --keepfree 5
In Windows:
lolMiner.exe --benchmark ETHASH --benchepoch 385 --keepfree 56

for those of us running 4gb cards with lol 1.11 how do we enable the zombie mode or is it turned on by default?
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: eth2 ph 1.5 end of PoW on: October 15, 2020, 10:48:58 PM
That is a really good point.  I think ph0 ad ph1 will also be much longer than they think while they maintain the chain, while thinking about rollups.  We might even see things like ph0.1 ph0.2, or even ph1.1 ,etc via rollup delivery
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: eth2 ph 1.5 end of PoW on: October 14, 2020, 06:55:24 PM
The other thing to consider is as we begin to enter eth2 ph0 -> ph1 -> ph1.5, there is a chance we might see another EIP that reduces the rewards for miners.  I have not seen or heard of any that is being considered but eth has done that several times over the years (reducing the miner rewards).
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / eth2 ph 1.5 end of PoW on: October 14, 2020, 06:13:22 PM
Hello everyone,

I was wondering what people think about the timing of eth2 ph1.5, which will be the last time PoW will be part of eth and PoW mining will cease as we know it.  This ofcourse will have wide spread impacts to GPU miners, not just eth miners.  if your a RVN or ETC miner for example and thinks eth going PoS wont impact you, you are wrong.  We will see massive shift in GPU hash move from eth to RVN, ETC or some other GPU mining algo.  This will drive up diff on all these other coins will which most likely make them unprofitable more than likely.

So saying all that, we are in the clear until ph1.5 gets launched.  ph0 will go live probably in Nov 2020.  If you look at the roadmap in the link, ph1 will be in 2021 and ph1.5 will almost be in 2021, at least that is the plan from the devs.  some of us are still paying off our rigs based on the ROI we went in with...  Is there any consensus when people think ph1.5 will come?  Do we really think in 2021 or given history think it will slip into 2022?  Me personally I think it will be a Q4 2021 thing with a 50/50 chance of slipping into 2022.

I am curious what others think.

is it possible to adjust the fan speed for one of the cards in the rig via the web gui?  if not the web gui, is there a shell command I could apply?  I would like to put the fan at 100%
No there isnt. Target temperature is doing it automatically. What is your case and why you need it to make one at 100% ? What is your goal ?

I had one card that was hotter then the others and I noticed it as losing some hashrate as a result.  Fan was at 80% so I thought it I bumped it up to 100, that could help.

I ended up doing something different however.  I turned off the rig, spaced out the GPUs better and how my temp is under control.  no need to adjust fan Smiley

Thank you for helping me optimize my 5600 XTs Smiley

Could you help me with my GTX 1070s?  Right now I get about 26 MH/s with a power draw of 110W

I have the following settings :

Core MHz = 0
Mem MHz = 1000
Power Limit 110

everything else is default.

I know on Windows I used to get 30MH/s+

Any help would be appreciated, thank you Smiley

PS.  I am using phoenixminer-v5.1c

Thank you so much for the quick reply!  I got my power usage down to 90w and still hashing at 40.15 MH/s!

First off, I love this service.  So easy to run rigs and not have to worry about drivers, patches, etc.  Keep it up!

My question is about my 5600 XT cards.  Right now in the GUI I have 1300 in CoreMHZ and 920 in MemoryMHZ everything else is default settings.

Right now I am getting consistently 40.15 MH/s with a power draw per card of 101W .

I wanted to know if anyone has experimented with these settings to get the power draw per card below 101 W?
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / possible eth diff drop? on: September 13, 2020, 11:12:18 PM
With the size of the dag reaching 4gb do people think that say by Nov/Dec we should expect an observed drop in eth diff with the removal of that hash rate?
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / best way to follow eth 2.0 progress on: September 13, 2020, 11:10:02 PM
Hello fellow miners Smiley

Like most of you I mine eth, but know that ph0 of eth 2.0 coming with the eventual eth 2.0 full POS which will bring the end of PoW to eth.

Can anyone suggest where the best place is to follow what is happening specially on the eth project?  If it following the ANN Eth thread on this forum or do you recommend somewhere different?
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / GPU mining in an Eth 2.0 world on: August 12, 2020, 08:58:54 PM
Hello everyone,

I jumped onto the crypto mining scene back in Sept of 2017.  Bought my first 6 x 1070 rig 8 gb, and then went on to buy 4 more rigs of 5 rigs of 4x x rx580 4gb cards.  As we all know, the crypto world went upside down between then and now, but I have continued to mine 100% for the entire time.

Now my 4gb cards are coming to an end as eth DAG reaches 4 GB, and eth 2.0 around the corner.  When eth 2.0 comes, I am 100% confident we will see HUGE amounts of hash power from GPUs move to other coins (ie RVN,etc) and will make all GPU minable coins not be profitable anymore due to saturation.

If that is true, then what mining options are there outside of asic BTC mining?  Well there is always XMR.  That coin seems to be very mature, has an excellent roadmap when it comes to being asic resistent as due to the frequent algo changes.

If that is true then maybe rather than buying new GPUs to replace my 4gb cards, perhaps I should invest in ryzen cpus and mobo to and move from GPU mining to CPU mining?

Not too sure.  I am ready to make new tech investments to replace by 2017 investment, just not sure where to put my money GPU or CPU.

Thoughts?  Ideas?

Anyone notice that recent XMR diff spike?  ASICs?  I hope not

38  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac / Terminus R606 (BM1387) Official Support Thread on: June 10, 2020, 09:22:35 PM
hello everyone!

I have been mining eth on my gpu rigs since mid 2018, never did any btc mining cause I did not want to spend $3000 on a single asic that did just one thing and had low resale value once I can no longer use it.

Recently I started to be more interested in BTC mining as eth is talking more and more about PoS (and not PoW).  I came across this thread which really peaked my interest.  Relatively low cost investment, largely plug and play and it mines BTC Smiley

I really want to ask some questions to clear things up for me before I buy some NewPac units and a powered USB hub.

When I do the math.  One NewPac can do 130 GH and consumes 5w power, at current prices it looks to be about breakeven or a tiny loss :

https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/btc?HashingPower=130&HashingUnit=GH%2Fs&PowerConsumption=5&CostPerkWh=.1&MiningPoolFee=1

I want to know if I am making a mistake in my observation?  I can get a rasberry pi 4 for $50, get powered hub for $100 and buy say four of these units @ $50 each, but if I spend a total of $350 to mine, it would seem, it would be better to just take the $350 and buy btc?

Dont get me wrong, I WANT to buy these, as I love HW and hacking around and playing with configs and tweaking, but I dont want to do so if after all that work, I am better off buying BTC?

Thoughts?
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / acorns fpga on: June 09, 2020, 02:35:34 PM
A little while ago there was a bunch of good discussion around small affordable m.2 based fpga's named acorns.  I have been trying to google them to see if I can still buy some but cant find them any more.  Anyone  know what happened to them?

What I liked about the acorns was that they were very affordable  (ie. ~$200), were an fpga, and used very little power.  I see other FPGAs around $5000 but simply cant afford them.  I am a hobby miner.
