Litecoin definitely seems the way to go even if you have a sub-9kh/s rig and want to just let it ride without playing the exchange market to min/max.

Otherwise you could try your hand at some of the other alt coins and see if the market will let you pull out some magic!

I typically have one machine pointed at Litecoin pools and another set to pick up a handful of Stablecoins/Fastcoins for trade fodder. Just have fun though! I just recently got into mining and it's been a pretty interesting experience.
