21  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 14, 2013, 09:47:13 AM
Here's what happened:

I received a transfer ID before I hit the submit button.  When I did, I got a red error message saying: "Limit reached or not enough bitcoins in your account."  Non-the-less the entire amount (around 50BTC) did to to my working blockchain.info wallet.

 ...

I would have thought that Mt. Gox would have some of these UI bugs by this time which is what this looks like to me.  Oh well.

You were not supposed to click on the Submit button as you had already withdrawn your coins. They should change the UI to not display the button after the screen refresh.
22  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Time for gox to just go out of business. on: August 13, 2013, 06:05:59 AM
My account was one of those attacked on the 13th July with a password reset request. See
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=255630.0;all and http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1i7ydk/psa_reminder_do_not_store_anything_of_value_at_a/
for other reports of this attack. Incidentally I have yet to hear an explanation from mtgox of how the usernames of a large number of gox users leaked and how the attacker managed to request password resets even without the yubikey (in my case) which is supposedly required.

The attacker didn't need your username. Your email address was probably in a huge list of email addresses which he used to trigger a mass password request. Check it out on their site. Only a correct email address is required to trigger a forgotten password and for you to be locked out of your account for 24 hours. It happened to me also and I was stressed for 24 hours.

23  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BEWARE - MTGox Stealing Your Money! on: August 10, 2013, 03:10:22 AM
@lambo,

you can just use the reference code provided by Mt Gox to your bank. If it's true, they should able to trace it.

Bank cannot lose your money, unless Mt Gox didn't send it.

I think that's a waste of time. It's clear that Mt.Gox hasn't instructed their bank to send him his money.
24  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MTGox has taken over a month.Has anyone used BTC-E lately? Other methods? on: August 10, 2013, 03:06:56 AM
Thanks for all of the info. I had a successful transaction with Coinbase, already! What I need to know now, is how do I get my Bitcoins from MtGox to Coinbase. I can't find a button with that option. I have a Bitcoin address at Coinbase, and was looking to do it that way. Thanks!

I haven't used Coinbase, but if you know your address at Coinbase for depositing bitcoins, then all you need do is go to Mt.Gox, select withdraw bitcoins and then paste the Coinbase address into the field. Some time later the coins will appear in your Coinbase account.

If they don't, I might have to delete my account from this forum!

Seriously, if you're unsure, test it with a small amount first until you get the hang of it.

25  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bla, bla, bla..... Was: "Gox withdrawal problem seems to be solved (for now)." on: August 10, 2013, 02:57:09 AM

I recommend you start paying more attention to traded volume and charts than the orderbook.

I will do. Is there some API where I can request the trading volumes of the different exchanges?

I don't know of any API, but I use http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/ to keep track of traded volumes. It shows last 24 hours and last 30 days.

Looking at USD/BTC right now, the 24 hour volume on Mt.Gox of 9,768.21 BTC is less than the 11,195.62 BTC on Bitstamp.

However, Mt.Gox is still marginally the largest exchange when you take into account the BTC/EUR, BTC/JPY and other minor fiat currency markets that Bitstamp doesn't offer. Not sure for how much longer this will be the case though.

26  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Qt Bitcoin Trader [OpenSource Mt.Gox/BTC-e trading client for Mac/Windows/Linux] on: August 09, 2013, 11:35:29 AM
What I asked for is similar to the screen grab, but the bid and ask orders should not be combined. There should be four totals, not two.

Virtual balances would be great. This is the same as h) in my 18th July post. However, these should be in addition to the normal Mt.Gox balances.

I think there is room for the six additional numbers at the top of the screen.

27  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Qt Bitcoin Trader [OpenSource Mt.Gox/BTC-e trading client for Mac/Windows/Linux] on: August 08, 2013, 12:02:21 PM
I don't think I understand your question, but I am not asking for another column. But as I asked on 14th July, it would be really useful to display the totals of the buy and sell orders in USD and BTC. Quite often I try to buy more than the USD in my account, or I try to sell more than the BTC I have.
28  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Qt Bitcoin Trader [OpenSource Mt.Gox/BTC-e trading client for Mac/Windows/Linux] on: August 07, 2013, 03:05:34 AM
I think "Sell orders" should be exact copy of "Buy orders" now its kinda reversed an messed up a little Smiley
And could you make those Price/Amount/Total fields resizeable if possible

Look at order book on https://btc-e.com
Sell orders means other people sell, don't you sell.

I think mpr20rt meant that the order of fields on the Buy Bitcoin side are $, $, bitcoin but on the Sell Bitcoin side are bitcoin, $ and $. It is a little confusing at first. When I trade I always think about how many bitcoins I want to buy or sell, and the price. I don't think too much about the USD as it's automatically calculated.

Fields automatically resized to its contents.
Why it required to be resizeble manually?

If there are over 100 btc in an order, automatic resizing may not display all the information. I don't know whether this has already been fixed in the beta. A solution might be to not display the full eight decimal points for large orders.

I'm looking forward to the next official release!

Hi

Any idea when the next version will be released?

I'm reluctant to install the beta version as real money is involved.
30  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Diversified Group Buy [KNC Jupiter/BitFury 400Gh/VMC Fast-Hash-One] on: August 05, 2013, 07:55:37 PM
Hi Ch,

I just sent 50 btc. Please confirm receipt.

I think your idea of diversification of suppliers is great. It's the biggest risk that we face. Delays cost money!

I'd be ok if you were to change your terms to provide you with the flexibility of mining alt coins rather than bitcoins later on. Who knows what will be the best use of the gear in a few months time?

I will also be ok if you were to dispose of the miners via eBay or auctioning on this forum etc. Hopefully there will be future group buys where we can get the latest equipment.

I love your dog!

Cheers!

HaHaHa!  MtGox is the new Hotel California. You can check out any time you like - but you can never leave

Great analogy!

And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night

"Relax, " said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave! "

Thank you for donate and detailed descriptions.
I'll take a time for all your feature requests.
b) how about orders for different currencies at time. Example: orders contains BTC,LTC,PPC,NMC... how to display total orders cost in GUI?

Hi July,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

b) I think it would be easiest to only display the two currencies that have been selected in the Symbol drop down.

Some more suggestions:

h) Related to b), display how much of the two currencies is available for new orders

i) Have an option to turn off the confirmation messages when buying/selling.

j) Allow the width of the columns in Open Orders to be changed or reduce the font size (I can't currently see the times of the orders)

k) Add the ability to modify open orders by right clicking on them

Do you prefer feedback and feature requests on this forum or on github?

Cheers!

Hi July,

I'd like to congratulate you on your program and all the effort you have put into it.

I think I first used it a few weeks ago.

I sent you a donation earlier today. Hopefully it will be the first of many.

These are some of the things I would like added if you have time:

a) Allow sorting of the open orders by clicking on the column headers (both ascending and descending)

b) Show how much all the bid and ask orders add up to. It's hard to keep track when there are lots of orders.

c) Allow option to remove or disable the "All In" and "Half In" buttons. I never use them and it would be extremely costly if I were to accidentally click on them.

d) The default "Total to spend" and "Total to SELL" when the program starts should be zero, not the entire balance. Once again, very costly if an accident happens.

e) Allow different step sizes for the up/down arrows in the three entry fields for Buy Bitcoin and Sell Bitcoin (currently 0.01). Ideally there should be a way of quickly changing the step size to a number chosen by the user.

f) Split the "As Market Price" button into three buttons: "Bid price", "Market Price" and "Sell price"

g) Add support for BitStamp

Cheers!
34  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mtgox taking to long for withdrawals? anyone else? on: July 14, 2013, 02:16:23 PM
Actually I stand corrected.

The person I knew never got his cash. After 5 weeks they cancelled the withdrawal and he used the cash to buy bitcoins and he was able to withdraw them.

Sorry for my earlier misleading post.
35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mtgox taking to long for withdrawals? anyone else? on: July 14, 2013, 01:41:46 PM
You're not the only one.

Plenty of threads on here about withdrawal delays.

I personally know someone who waited a month for his withdrawal to come through.

You might be amused by this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=251895.0.

A few people are offering bounties to the first person who can prove they received money from Mt.Gox if the withdrawal request was made after 4th July!

Hi

The NEWBIE README sticky says:

Quote
Newbie Restrictions
You can only post in the Newbie and Local sub-forums till you have made one post and waited 4 hours. This post must be substantial: at least several sentences. The other two restrictions are you need 1 post to be able to send a PM and 10 posts to put a link in your sig.

I was able to send a private message a few minutes after I joined and after I made one post. It's not true that you have to wait four hours.
37  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm interested in mining for profit. Are these numbers even remotely feasible? on: July 14, 2013, 11:52:14 AM
You won't have any trouble selling 900 bitcoins a month on Mt.Gox. That's only 30 coins a day.

25,000 coins were traded on Mt.Gox in the last 24 hours.

The problem with Mt.Gox is that they are currently very slow in sending USD. Many people are waiting weeks for their money.

You could sell the coins on other exchanges, but the prices are generally a few per cent lower than on Mt.Gox.

38  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchanges and trading on: July 14, 2013, 11:22:41 AM
Bitcoin Charts has a lot of detailed information for nearly all exchanges around the world http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/.

It's worth spending some time on that site as you will learn a lot.

I've used both Mt.Gox and BitStamp and will try out btc-e next week.

For the last few weeks, the price of bitcoins on Mt.Gox have been higher than on BitStamp and btc-e.

Hi Koxman,

You should read the NEWBIE README sticky at the top which has the rules that you are looking for:

I'm also new, but I have been able to send a PM.

Patiently waiting until I can post elsewhere.

Hi bezroukoff,

It would help if you said in which country or part of the world you lived in and roughly how many bitcoins you wanted.

I have bought bitcoins on both the Mt.Gox and BitStamp exchanges This involved wiring them money.

You could also try working for bitcoins!
