21  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: October 16, 2013, 10:22:31 PM
I'm not clear about what we're meant to do regarding Bitfunder. Im not in the US but I dont want to give WeExchange any details (why should I trust them?).
Do I just hold onto the shares until Ken gives clear instructions, even if that's past the Bitfunder/WE deadline?

Ken said Colored Coins are a long-term solution (which I am very much looking forward to), so what do we do in the short term?

If we want to sell our shares at some point, how will that be done on ActM shares site?

...Due to the current environment we will not be enabling trading on this site...

...After we obtain legal advice which says that we are ok to do this, we will implement on the site, a direct escrow transfer system...

Long Term Solution:

We will implement a direct transfer system using colored coins.

The direct escrow transfer system will allow an Investor to transfer shares to another Investor after they have made a deal outside of the site (Forum, IRC, eMail, etc.).   Since it is an escrow system the Investor buying the shares has to have the BTC in his account.  When the transfer is made and accepted, then the shares are transferred to the buyer and the BTC is transferred to the Seller.

On site escrow transactions would be much more user friendly. Blockchain offer escrow multi-sig service described here:

I started a thread on reddit but i'm hoping for others to chime in.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1o6xye/its_bitcoins_5th_birthday_soon_help_me_compile_a/

When is it Bitcoin's official birthday?
My opinion is that Bitcoin was born with the release of Satoshi's whitepaper on 1st Nov 2008.

thats when bitcoin was conceived

its birth must be the genesis block

I would have thought conception was the moment Satoshi started thinking it through and *began* writing the whitepaper. The gestation period would have been the time between conception and releasing the idea to the world (ie, birth) with the whitepaper.

Wouldnt that make the genesis block our Bitcoin baby's first words?

i don't see that way

the white paper is the DNA needed to create the actual thing,

bitcoin wasn't born until it that DNA was used to create it

OK, I think you win with that one.

So that puts Bitcoin's birthday at 3rd Jan 2009 with the genesis block.

Like This?

Yes!
I really really like this, good effort

This is freaking awesome. Love it!

This is great work. Very professional and an ENORMOUS improvement over the current logo. Well done. Hope Ken adopts this (and you give it to him free or for very little cost).

Shameless self plug -

Sent this to TGB last night:

To whom it may concern,

The Genesis Block's Mining Dashboard tool needs to include the VMC miners that were recently announced to be made by eASIC (http://www.easic.com/vmc-uses-easic-to-achieve-24-756-ths-bitcoin-miner/)

You can find more detailed specs on the VMC's website: http://virtualminingcorp.com/shop1/index.php?id_category=15&controller=category

If you require any assistance please let me know.

Thank you,
Kleeck

Received this back a few minutes later:

Thanks for reaching out Kleeck. I am planning on adding these tonight. The large number of product options adds some complexity that needs to be addressed.

Cheers,
Jeff

Note to Ken and Board: Product complexity is BAD. Simplify the offerings! Confused customers is no good.

Well done. They needed a nudge.
Agreed about product complexity...

29  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will mining bitcoins be unprofitable in the future? on: September 03, 2013, 01:38:12 PM
Difficulty will skyrocket throughout 2014. In general, mining will always be profitable either through btc/fiat price increase or miners dropping out and bringing difficulty down.
There should always be an equilibrium where mining is at least a tiny bit profitable.
30  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: September 02, 2013, 01:59:19 PM
Mindlessly buying hashing power is a sure-fire way to lose money.

Ouch. Dont tell that to ActM customers. Although, I wish I'd had that advice before stumbling into BFL.

TF, do you have a mailinglist for inputs.io API devs? It would be good to be notified directly about significant changes, even in advance if possible.

bitpotluck.com just launched a few weeks ago. I'd be happy to be Top 20 Tongue

As extraordinarily unlikely as that is, if BFL were getting there chips from us, wouldn't that be extremely bullish for ActM? It does sound like absolutely wild speculation though.

Agreed. BFL *should* use ActM as their supplier. More ActM chip resellers on board, the better.
35  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: August 20, 2013, 11:03:27 PM
+1 for Active Miner product name. Also give it version number, ie ActiverMiner1.
Surely there will be a second version down the track.
36  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: August 20, 2013, 09:24:09 AM

It would be my suggestion to VMC to write a cease and desist letter - get it on the record that they believe HashFast is essentially passing off, and causing confusion in the market. Doing this would buy time to bring a case to court later if it is needed. The smart thing for HashFast to do (hell, I'm getting confused just writing this) is to re-brand.

I don't think VMC should rebrand the FastHash - to the contrary.

A court case? As an investor, i advise focusing on product development and company branding. Not litigation.
37  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: August 20, 2013, 06:07:48 AM
I have mentioned this previously, but the names of the product line, and the way the products are mentioned/advertised is way to complex.

From a marketing perspective, bitcoin miners are a relatively intelligent bunch, so the product name shouldn't matter tooooo much. But yes, just pick a cool name.

I'm pretty sure the FastHash name was introduced before HashFast appeared, but we should change the name to avoid confusion more than anything.

Let's also imagine a scenario where HashFast screw over their customers or develop a bad reputation. The confusion between names could reflect badly on FastHash/VMC. It's better to fully distinguish the product and leave no confusion what-so-ever.
38  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: August 20, 2013, 05:39:25 AM
This is for Streets 2.0/PR.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed in the thread, but now that the board has been finalized, I'd like to request tabling a topic of discussion for the first official board meeting.

1. HashFast Vs 2. Fast Hash

1. being a company name not associated with ActM/VMC,
2. being a trademark (?) that is associated with ActM/VMC

HashFast has been receiving a lot of press recently and have established their name in the bitcoin community through various associations.

Fast Hash on the other hand, has not (pointed out by forum members recently). ActM would seem to be in "stealth mode" from a press perspective.

There will likely be ongoing confusion from customers, press and bitcoin enthusiasts who will not grasp the difference between HastFast and Fast Hash.

This is an issue that should not be swept under the rug and should be addressed soon before product announcements.

I recommend changing the name Fast Hash. Might I even suggest not using the words "bit", "hash", "coin" in the name.

1. ActM should actively try to avoid "trading on" the name of another company. This argument could lead to litigation.

2. Fast Hash "trademark" cannot be found and may not be legally registered (?) at http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=searchss&state=4806:ju8qz3.1.1

3. Fast Hash has not firmly established a brand name in the bitcoin community as yet, so a name change should have very little negative impact, while largely alleviating other concerns.
