Right now it's trending towards a small increase in difficulty.


Price is currently $23,373 so it isn't pushing miners to accelerate.

BTC prices hasn't held $20K, and has be wandering around $19,xxx for a few days now. While not a big projected increase, the margins must be getting pretty thin for folks these days. Nobody is "making big money" these days, even with really cheap power (IMHO).

Most recent BTC price from Coinbase: $20,253. I wonder if we have hit the "bottom" or more significant declines remain yet.

So what's the current revenue for a days worth of 1TH work? It can't be good with BTC at $22,347.

For whatever reason, BTC price has now declined to: $27,499. It's been steadily below $30K for a couple of days.

Update about 24 hours later: BTC price now at $25,265.

Looks like a definite decrease in difficulty is in the cards for tomorrow:


This suggests that the current difficulty may be the new All Time High difficulty for a bit. I wonder how long that will be true?

We are now into the final "sprint" of the current epoch. BTC price has crawled back to $31,646.

An update to the above: BTC price is now $30K, not $34K.

For whatever reason, BTC price has now fallen to: $36,340. Maybe in sympathy with the US stock market?

Re China:

What I have read is that Shanghai is locked down, but may emerge soon. In China "Locked Down" is fairly draconian and way more impactful than many Western countries would contemplate. I have also read that China is trying to follow a "Zero COVID infection" policy. That means that they do regular testing and at the 1st sign of infection, they take action. They don't wait for the impact of infection to be felt (hospitalizations or death) to manifest. Furthermore they respond quickly to any hint of an outbreak in an area and rapidly isolate folks into quarantine facilities without consideration of family units. The isolation is for 14 days as I recall, with little chance of an early exit. This appears to me to be an extension of their initial COVID response back in 2020 in terms of test, and rapid isolation if infected.

I hope that anyone with first hand knowledge will refute or amend my comments.

You can see how impactful the "Zero Tolerance" policy could be on business operations across the country, and across it's entire scope of businesses (technology, steel, transportation, etc).

Well another epoch completes. Looks like it was about +3.7% increase in difficulty. Unfortunately BTC price was unable to hold and have now fallen back to $45,706.

Looks like the Russia invasion of Ukraine is a big negative for the price of BTC: $34,923.

Unfortunately the above trend hasn't continued. BTC price is now $42K. Well past the 3/4 mark and we are into positive increase territory. Could still change back, but it's not currently trending that way.
