Just an update regarding bitstamp and some emails we've been receiving about their integration.

We are aware they are offline and not ignored, however their volume is 0 so have no effect on our average whatsoever. We will continue to monitor the situation

We will take a look at these for sure.

Nice website but why big exchanges like bitfinex or cavirtex are not represented?

Bitfinex have always been integrated, maybe at the time you checked their API wasn't accessible by our backend?

CaVirtex are also integrated, however their name on our frontend is VirtEx, maybe this has changed as they have been integrated for a very long time. If this is incorrect now please let us know and we'll push a change

You can check a list of ignored exchanges via the UI on our homepage, or via the API > https://api.bitcoinaverage.com/ignored

Are you still there, BitcoinAverage? Your Twitter bot has been broken for over a month... https://twitter.com/bitcoinaverage

Yes we are here working hard behind the scenes on a large overhaul of our backend.

The twitter bot died without notification so apologies for that!

It is a little odd, for now we will not be including them until they reply to our emails!
26  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bravenewcoin.com Price index. Graphs, filters, aggrigates from over 75 exchanges on: October 30, 2014, 03:23:54 PM
Just stumbled upon this site. This is a complete rip of our open source project, from the local market prices, global prices, right down to the exchange ignore reason and bitcoincharts fallback.

Even if you did rewrite code from scratch which i doubt, you could have made an effort not to look so obvious in the features you've copied.

BTCChina are now ignored until this is resolved in v2 of our backend/API

We wanted to ask the community if they have had any dealings with LakeBTC.com. They have extremely large volume for a new exchange and I don't know a single trader (and i know a few) that have used them.

https://www.lakebtc.com/api_v1/ticker

Just wanted to put the feelers out before integrating them into our system, it seems they paid Coindesk to integrate them into their index or have some other deal.

Note: Yes they do have fees for trades.

How come you are so cautious when you still have BTC China listed? How many traders do you know on that 0% fee exchange?

BTCChina never used to have 0% fees, this is why they are still included in v1, yes we need to remove them, but in v2 they aren't included.

Adding a new exchange i would like to check, i know many people using btcchina and okcoin, but none that use lakebtc.

As for 0% fee exchanges in general we are looking at including them all, but only using for example 25% of their volume for weighting. We would like to do a poll with the community to gauge what people would think is a fair %, and if the idea is ok with the majority.

Very cool on the widget generator.  I write my own code so I won't need it personally but I really like all the work you guys are doing.  By the way, is there anything that funds the project?  I haven't really seen ads on the site so if they're there, they're pretty unobtrusive.

No funds, only from ads, we could really do with some to push things forward!

A widget generator for those unable to use the API themselves is available for testing:

The Bitstamp problem appears to have been fixed.

Its slightly up in the air but most requests are coming back fine.
33  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitcoinAverage.com - bitcoin price index on: August 02, 2014, 07:40:53 PM
Bitstamp has been marked as "unreachable since 25 Jul, 11:22 UTC" and ignored, but the Bitstamp API appears to be working just fine.

Hi,

Bitstamp, Coinfloor and Kapiton are protected by Incapsula, our hosting provider has had a range blocked by them and they are working to resolve this. We've been contacted the these exchanges directly also and our suggestion is for them to raise a ticket with Incapsula to help speed things along.

Yet another time Incapsula have caused us issues!

BitcoinAverage's historical data is being used by http://libratax.com/ for their accounting software, referencing us for their 'fair market value'

I used the calculator again today.  I really appreciate it and the convenience.  This is so much better than years ago when people would just quote the mt. gox price as if it was the golden truth.

Very true, we're already approaching our first birthday, how time does fly!

Great job! please contact us if you need anything specific from our API, version 2 is on its way so if you need something custom do let us know.

Suggestion - change the ticker URL to pull our global average, this will then support 170+ global currencies if that's something you think the users of this would appreciate Smiley

What's with the spike over 700? Is that legit or a fluke in the code?

Someone bought out the orderbook on campbx by accident! http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/29ziry/bubble_happened_this_morning_btc_almost_hit_10000/

That was one weird moment Cheesy .

Anyways, i rly love that new calculator, but i think it should be somewhere on front page if possible.

One suggestion, would be nice if it can remember my defolt currency so its set every time i load calculator.

Converter on homepage - This version is far too large to be on the homepage in our opinion, especially with the changes we have planned, but we'll definitely consider a mini version as before Smiley
Default currency - we'll get that added along with other planned features!

Calculator was about the most useful thing on the front page, but it's mysteriously disappeared...

https://bitcoinaverage.com/converter

We're currently changing a few things around, the original one was buggy and has issues due to how data on the homepage is updated. This will change in the future and we could put a simple one back there. However the one linked above will be much more feature rich, and is coded far better Smiley

Feedback taken on board as always!

Hey, the code has been open source since August/Sep 2013 Smiley

Fair enough, I just found out about it when I saw the link gweedo placed in the thread, then I noticed it in your sig.  A most honorable decision, IMHO.

Thanks Smiley
