Oh boy. I'm THAT guy now. I actually have read every post on every page in this thread. Honestly!

It seems like the diff dropped last night. Wasn't it at 112 or something? Now it's at 106. Can the diff change like that? Or was I just not paying attention to the right stuff.
23  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Now that usb sticks are being sold by sidehack here is a new usb hub thread. on: January 21, 2018, 10:29:06 PM
Here's a simple little documentation of my setups.

https://www.amazon.com/photos/share/SCgYi97ESptqChXcE2HGQltCIz6AVj2wqDo88FbKR0f
This one is a single 2pac running 225Hz on an Amazon 4 port USB powered hub and a simple 5v fan. It's pretty much rock solid and throws almost no hardware errors. Anything above 225Hz won't start up. Seems like that is the maximum power the hub can provide. At $16, it's a pretty good power source. It's all connected to a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running cgminer.
http://a.co/bsDqq3V

https://www.amazon.com/photos/share/HAuMqFj9F6HrL2IkzzJsHAzD60JMULvtKqNYAgn2pOu
This one is more complex. I have a Plugable 7 port USB2 hub running 3 2pacs running at 200Hz and an Arctic fan. Occasionally one or two devices will zombie out, but it runs well for a day or two. I also have a 5v fan pointed at the top 2pac to keep it cool. All is connected to an older miniPC running Ubuntu 16.04 and cgminer. I've found that if I try to push the miners to 225Hz, two of the three fail to start. I have plans to split out power to an ATX power supply and try to push the freq above 200Hz.

That's it for now.

24  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: January 19, 2018, 06:04:43 PM
I would think you wouldn´t damage the 2Pac but maybe the usb port. The 2Pac should just go zombie if there isn´t enough power or just won´t be recognized.
I would wait for the hub.

oke thanks , i will wait just a couple of days , how badly i want to use it ;-) thanks

Good idea. I had my old MacBook Pro chomping away at Monero with its CPU, a 2pac on a cheapie USB hub and another 2pac connected directly to the computer's USB port. That computer no longer works. I suspect I blew something in the power section. If you love or need your computer, wait for the powered USB hub.

I'm using cgminer with a small number of 2pac bitcoin miners. In the USB menu there are a couple settings for Unplug and Reset. They don't seem to do anything to the miners. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Only way to resurrect is a power cycle. Unless you want to start modifying the hardware.

Thanks for the response. I'm adventurous, but I think I may pass on the hardware mods. I'm pushing my luck by thinking about slitting the USB cables and running 5v directly to the little buggers. I wouldn't know where to start with the hardware mods.
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: January 17, 2018, 07:20:06 PM
Sometimes my little 2pac miners at home zombify while I'm at work. Three 2pacs are connected to a Plugable 7 port 60w USB2.0 hub (ports 2, 4, and 6) with a couple fans on an Ubuntu 16.04 system. I've found a couple scripts that will reset USB ports, and used them, as well as the USB commands in cgminer, but can't get them zombies to come back to life remotely. Is there a way to resurrect zombie 2pacs remotely, or do I need to physically remove and reinsert them?

Thanks.

Finally got my overclocking issues figured out!
My creation is about to go from the "lab" (garage) to the "data center" (basement)  Grin
I just needed a cluster of pi (pies?) to go with my cluster of 2pacs. Found out what I thought was a hardware error with the 2pac was actually the pi usb port getting overloaded. I ran stable doing 200mhz @1.41v over the weekend and have been upping it every day. Doing 250mhz @ 1.41v for an average of 550Gh/s  Shocked

That's a sweet looking rig and something I aspire to mimic. Do you have the STL files for the 3D printed stuff? I'd love to print some for myself.

Thanks,

29  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who likes pod miners? on: January 12, 2018, 05:57:03 PM
Depending on the pricepoint and finances when orders are taken, I'm in for at least one, and maybe up to four.

My 2pacs are chomping away. Even though they're seconds, they're still firsts in my mind. Haha.

30  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6PH] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: January 10, 2018, 04:12:10 PM
Is pool.work currently accurate? My normal stat page shows a DERP that "should" be in the payout - http://ckpool.org/users/12MiYVyrVt5bLLH1vpxYprnEtEWTEHxL3n

Looking at the pool.work page shows a "gap" where payouts go from 0.003 to 0.0008 and my address is down in the deferred range again :-/

I know I have been getting pushed down as more and bigger miners join and my tiny little hash rate has trouble making a difference, this is just the first time I have seen different data on these two screens.

-Fred

P.S. - anyone selling old miners? I'm always interested in building my collection ;-)

Good question! I never noticed that before. The herp on my worker page is different from my herp listed on the pool.work page. That said, if I add the herp and accumulated numbers from my worker's page, they add up to about the same as the herp listed on the pool.work page. Coincidence? Shrug. I'm guessing someone in this group knows.
31  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6PH] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: January 10, 2018, 02:27:53 PM
how do you guys find these stats and percentages? ive seen somebody here post top 50 contributors list and the post above me about his percentage but all i can find is my user dashboard and pool work. are you guys doing these things on your own? i can with with total confidence state that i know absolutely nothing about computers and even less about mining lol.

LOL. Good morning, Mr. Joe.

I pull the pool work stats and do a little Excel math. For my percentage, I manually copy/paste the list of users in the Postponed list (outside of the 150 users receiving payouts) to Excel (or as of yesterday, Google Sheets), and have the program find the total number of users, find my user and show its position in the list, then divide my position by the total number of users and multiply it by 100 to find the percentage. The Internet is a wealth of knowledge and help.

Everyone works from the same pages and does their own math. That top 50 contributors list was someone else working with the same data and parsing whatever info they wanted.
32  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6PH] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: January 10, 2018, 01:58:54 PM
I've been gathering data for the past 6 days, primarily to see how I'm doing as far as position in the list and what my percentage is. Six days ago I was right around the 50% mark, but today I cracked the 30% mark with my 4 little 2pacs. The pool has added over 100 users in that shot time span. On January 4 around 2:30pm Eastern there were 1934 users. Today (January 10) at 9am Eastern, there are 2048 users.

While I haven't been gathering the hash rate data, it's been consistently over 6PH since I came onboard about two weeks ago. It's not one of the big pools, but that's a good thing. Thanks for all you do for this community, CK.

CK, You're a friggin' genius! I removed cgminer and ncurses, reinstalled ncurses, reconfigured and rebuilt cgminer and ran it. It's working like a champ. Thanks for your assistance.

-ck,

I installed libncurses5-dev and that didn't help. Then I reran the build command (sudo apt-get install build-essential autoconf automake libtool pkg-config \ libcurl4-openssl-dev libudev-dev libusb-1.0-0-dev \ libncurses5-dev) and was told everything was installed properly, but I still don't get the stats I see in the OSX terminal window. I've also restarted the machine a couple times. Uninstall and rebuild, or is there something simpler I could do?

Thanks!

Aha! Thanks for finding that (2.1A shared). I looked for it briefly, but couldn't find it right away. Of course they buried it in the description paragraphs, rather than showing it in the tech specs. So, it wouldn't really work as I thought if the 2pacs were overclocked. Shrug.
36  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6PH] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: January 08, 2018, 02:55:47 PM
Quick question about the payouts.

I'm nowhere near the top 100, but moving up the list slowly with my four little 2pacs. I've been mining here four a week or two, and a block was found here on Friday. My "postposed" is still at 0 (zero). Is that because I haven't mined here very long and I get passed up by the system on this most recent block? I'm just trying to fully understand the system.

Thanks.

I got an ad for surge protectors/USB chargers and had a thought.

I have four 2pacs.

If I got four USB 3 Y cables, two of these power blocks, and any old el cheapo USB 2 hub, I should be in good shape, right?
Power blocks:
http://a.co/3uJgw5y

I could connect the 2pacs to the female end of the Y, connect the power side of the Y cable to the power blocks, and have data sent through the USB 2 hub through the data side of the Y.

It could work, right? From what I read, each of the two USB ports on the power block supplies 2.1A, which should be enough to power a 2pac at around 225-250Hz at the right voltage.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I wish I could say I read the whole 844 pages of this thread, but I don't have that time or patience. Please forgive me?

I have CG Miner installed on a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9.5 and a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04. The terminal window shows properly on the Mac, but in the Ubuntu terminal window, the approved/rejected notices show, along with the recent activity (5s, 1m, etc), but the HW and WU line doesn't show. Is there a configuration flag I'm missing? Something I did wrong in setup?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you're missing the curses dev library.

Curses! Haha. Thanks. I'll check it out.

Hey Everyone,

This is probably the wrong place to make my first post but here it goes. I'm new to this, idk why but a few days ago out of nowhere I've decided to get into mining. Right now I'm just doing browser mining which is taking FOREVER (20 h/s) I know it's inefficient but my computer is running all the time anyways. Now to get to my question, I already have the CGminer software on my computer and its directed towards CKPool and it's all setup and ready for a device, only issue is idk which one to go with. My budget is around $500 (I'm not cheap, I'm broke) and I was leaning towards going with x4 overclocked Gekkoscience 2 pac (estimated 60 GH/S) with a Anker USB hub and an Arctic Freeze fan. What are your opinions on that setup and how well would it do on CKPool or what are your recommendations on a rig/setup for my kind of budget that will run well with CKPool and get a decent payout? I know it's nothing robust but it would be easy to break down and take with me when I travel... when I actually have money.

Also I'm not running into this with the blind ambition of getting rich.

Oh, one other thing. I'm in the U.S., Eastern Timezone, What would be the best port to direct my software to?

Thanks for any input!!!

Mods: My apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, please move to appropriate sub forum. Reason I posted here is because my setup will be dedicated to CKPool.

Good morning, Sith_Ari. I’m in a similar spot as you, just slightly ahead. I played with CPU mining for about a week on Slushpool with very minimal results. I then took the leap and purchased four 2Pac miners and CGMiner on two old MacBook Pros (mid 2009 model and a 2007 model). I’m also doing CPU mining for Monero on the same computers. The 2007 model burnt out with one 2pac directly connected and one in a powered USB hub. Sad Farewell old friend. Over the period of a couple weeks I e gotten my system closer and closer to all four miners running on a fresh Linux setup. I now have one 2pac churning away directly connected to the Linux computer and three other 2pacs on fairly weak powered USB hubs on the Mac. I’ll be investing in a Plugable 7 port USB hub to run three of the miners and one of the el cheapos to run the fourth. There is a whole thread on bitcointalk.org about USB hubs for the 2pac.

I’m also on the East Coast. I connect to stratum+tcp://pool.ckpool.org:3333.

It’s all an adventure.
