24  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How long does coinbase take to respond to email? on: December 28, 2013, 02:37:36 AM
Good luck. I emailed them a bug in their mobile app 4 weeks ago that prevented me from being able to use them as payment processors for 3 different merchants. Still no response.

Definitely appearing very unprofessional to me.

I just bought about 2 pounds of beautiful wild salmon and cod this afternoon from Jarret Stevens at Bristol Bay during the Hillcrest Farmer's market in San Diego. Nice smooth transaction and Jarret is a huge fan of bitcoin. Please send him some support if you happen to be in the area. He works both the Hillcrest and Vista farmers markets.

Go bitcoin!
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: October 21, 2013, 06:44:31 PM
There have been a lot of comments that dooglus is possibly the same person/people who have taken alot of the winnings from Justdice. I have been racking my brain on a way to prove that he cannot leverage his knowledge of the server seeds, and I think I thought of something. I apologize if this has already been suggested and disproven as a nonfunctional idea. I tried to look through the forum posts, but with hundreds of pages, it is difficult to search through.

Here's the idea: what if, instead of a single server seed to generate all the random numbers for a user, the server seed is combined with the server clock time (in milliseconds), then hashed to give the random value. On every bet, the exact server clock time used to generate the random number is posted alongside with the bet and its results. In addition, the seeds are automatically changed on a regular basis, such as hourly or daily, and everyone's prior seeds can be publicly looked up.  if a player appears to have unreasonably good luck and high winnings, their seeds can be looked up and hashed with the server times of their bets to prove fairness of their results.

Thoughts?
29  Bitcoin / Meetups / Bitcoin Meetup in San Diego Nov 7 - Bitcoin Armory Wallet HOW-TO on: October 19, 2013, 11:43:29 PM
Join us for a great night of mixing and mingling with other folks in the Bitcoin space here in San Diego.

This month, I'll be doing a quick presentation on how to use the Armory wallet and its off-line capabilities to secure your bitcoin. Armory provides some awesome off-line, cold storage capabilities which allow you to have a secure off-line wallet that you can still make payments from without exposing your private keys to the network.

Those new to bitcoin are welcome to come and learn what this amazing technology/economy is all about. Anyone looking to trade is welcome to come and do a mini Satoshi Square. Smiley And as usual, everyone else is welcome to come by and banter about cryptocurrencies and the future of money.

32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How are you spreading the word about bitcoins? on: September 12, 2013, 10:54:50 PM
giving gifts, e.g. 200 mBTC, especially to young people for high school graduation or birthdays

giving tips to service providers

creating emails describing my experiences and distributing it to interested followers

carry a physical Bitcoin coin in my wallet to bring out and show at social events

In what form are you giving away mBits as gifts? I haven't found a good method to print out a bitcoin gift card that I can give people.

It would be awesome if I could print a handful of biz card sized .05 bitcoin gift cards which have a URL to a wallet like blockchain.info as well as an awesome intro into bitcoin complete with links to where to purchase stuff with it.

35  Other / Beginners & Help / Sales pitch when convincing businesses to take bitcoin? on: September 09, 2013, 01:04:48 PM
I'm a strong believer that the next wave of bitcoin adoption will come from brick and mortar stores starting to accept it. This will cause more people to see the transactions in person and see the "Bitcoin Accepted Here" signs posted in stores, restaurants, etc. I also feel like it "should" be an easy sell to business owners. Ie. save on transaction fees and open up to a whole network of bitcoin owners. But I definitely get more strange "Jehovah's witness" looks than legitimate curiosity.

For those that have successfully convinced a shop to take bitcoin, what sales pitch did you use?

I'd love to get collective input on the matter and maybe even references to media that have been most effective.
36  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitstamp experiences on: September 09, 2013, 12:10:28 AM
Using from the US with no problems. I've been depositing USD via wire transfer and I usually get credited within a couple days. Withdrawals via bitcoin have had no issues. Post within a few minutes. Highly recommended.
37  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: High risk to Coinbase- wtf on: September 08, 2013, 03:45:52 PM
I've been using their instant buy feature ever since it came out. I've done over a dozen trades with no problem although I did have a purchase get reversed after a few days once. It was using a 2nd, new bank account that I had just added. It's been awesome otherwise. I wish their 1% fee was lower but that's the price you pay for the convenience of not having to wire money.
