21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Drugs with Bitcoin ? on: December 20, 2017, 04:06:21 AM
In order to win the war on drugs they have to be made legal. A large majority of drug users do so because it is taboo. Legalize and you take the money and power away from the cartels this is common sense.

Let's look at Napster as an example. At the inception of the web it was the first peer to peer file sharing system and everyone used it until the powers at be shut it down hard and fast. Then along came Itunes, Google Play etc. etc. Do you see where I am going with this?

One of the biggest misconceptions about Bitcoin is that it is anonymous when in actuality it is merely pseudo-anonymous. Every transaction is recorded in the blockchain by design to prevent double spending. Big government has been analyzing the blockchain since it's inception and can very easily follow the money in BTC transactions. Don't be fooled into believing BTC is private, it's not, it's completely public.

For now Bitcoin is the most trusted crypto because it was the first, however there are serious problems with the POW and POS systems long term. The blockchain era has arrived however the future of Bitcoin is not certain. The biggest question is what do people use it for? If it is not useful it will lose value. In the future you will see task specific crypto being adopted.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can bitcoin wallet be hacked by hackers? on: December 20, 2017, 03:31:48 AM
Anything can be hacked with enough effort. I hacked my own cellphone the other day in five minutes. The best way to manage your crypto is to put it in cold storage until you need it. The easiest way is to back up your wallet and shut down and take the battery out of the laptop you use for crypto. More advanced ways include paper wallets and custom secure USB wallets. If you store your crypto using online wallets transfer any coins or tokens to a media you control or you could lose them if the online company goes out of business.

There was a guy in the U.K. who accidentally trashed a hard drive with 30,000BTC on it in 2010 he spent months searching his local landfill for it to no avail. He probably hates the interwebs about right now.

When Bitcoin first came out in 2008-2009 it was used by people that didn't care about money only about freedom. As they continued to use it people began to realize that freedom is priceless hence the meteoric rise in BTC's price. But most people still do not understand how to use their freedom and so the powers that be are easily able to take advantage of them. If you want true freedom, the way it was enshrined in the constitution of the USA then look to Namecoin NMC or as I like to refer to it the forgotten Bitcoin. The .bit domain will change the world as we know it but it's time has not yet arrived.
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to determine if Bitcoin is a bubble or not. on: December 20, 2017, 02:49:12 AM
In my opinion the price of Bitcoin is about to crash and here are my couple of my reasons why: 1. Historically BTC's price has spiked and crashed only to recover after massive panic selling (classic market manipulation). 2. Too much new money entering the market that does not understand what they are investing in (Does anyone really?). 3. New futures markets day trading BTC are looking for quick profits and are playing a zero-sum game in which someone always loses. 4. BTC is not that liquid, unlike gold cash etc. that you can slap down on any counter and buy groceries with I have yet to encounter a grocery store where I can pay in BTC.

If you look at Bitcoin's price charts you will see that historically it has risen dramatically in a short period of time only to crash hard and wipe out short term gains. The only way to trade BTC as an investment is long term. In the short term a lot of naive investors will lose a lot of money trading crypto hoping to get rich quick.

The people who are going to have the last laugh are the institutional investors who are setting up a classic pump/dump on Bitcoin. They are even pumping it on Big Bang Theory episodes. The bitcoin price crash has already started anyone who bought in at $19k has already lost $3k. The market is so volatile that a lot of people will lose their money especially short term traders. Long term holders have nothing to worry about.

In order for an altcoin to beat Bitcoin it would have to be at least 10% different in some way. Most alts are based on the same technology so will always be playing catch up until they give up. Ripple is a serious contender to overtake BTC for a couple of reasons that go back to the Wall Street Crash of 1929 that was engineered at the time by the big banks to prove how important a federal reserve was for financial stability. The same is true of Ripple which unlike Bitcoin is completely centralized. Banks trust Ripple and you could see it dominate BTC 5-10 years from now.

Recently almost everyone I talk to says they want to "Get into Bitcoin" but when I start asking them some fundamental questions such as what will you spend it on? What will you use it for?  They draw a blank. I don't like to say "Tulip Mania" but there is so much money pouring into Bitcoin that it is inevitable that a price crash is right around the corner. For investors it's a great opportunity to buy, for speculators, usually trading on margin they could get wiped out. If you use BTC simply as a vehicle to transfer value you will be somewhat safe.

I started this poll to better understand BTC use. What do people use BTC for that ordinary credit cards or cash would not work or are not preferable.

It sounds like it must have automatically converted your BTC into BCH and BTG. Without knowing more info it would be difficult to know for sure
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can bitcoin wallet be hacked by hackers? on: December 18, 2017, 11:47:09 PM
You could be hacked by keyloggers or even someone looking over your shoulder watching your key strokes. The best way is to keep coins you are not using offline.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New alt coin says it can beat Bitcoin on: December 18, 2017, 12:00:16 PM
Bitcoin does have some flaws that could stop it long term it's about market capitalization.
37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Bubble ? on: December 17, 2017, 11:26:55 PM
Bitcoin is a commodity very much like oil or gold dollars of euros. There might be price fluctuations and corrections but in the long term it is a bull market. Some say bitcoin will reach $500,000 sooner rather than later but it is a zero sum game someone always loses it is just a matter of when.
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coins real or fake? on: December 17, 2017, 10:34:24 PM
When Crypto Currency first came out it was used by cyber anarchists who didn't care about money to disrupt the banking system as a punishment for the financial crisis when so many people lost their homes and jobs. It was involved in lots of scams like ransom-ware that would take advantage of exploits in old versions of operating systems and lock people out of their computers until they paid a Bitcoin ransom. Now that BTC is more widely trusted and accepted by the mainstream you can see that it is actually real however very vulnerable to manipulation like any other commodity is. Caveat Emptor.
