The problem
Today, over 60% of the waste generated worldwide end up either in landfills or in the ocean. The reason for this is that the majority of the world population find the recycling process inconvenient, don’t have substantial incentives to recycle, and don’t trust that if they go through with the recycling program, the waste will actually be recycled.

A blockchain powered digital platform that uses the game theory to socially substantiate recycling incentives, while facilitating door-to-door collection and providing a transparent means of tracking recyclables and distribution of incentives

Waste disposers’ use an “uber-like” app to either call for a pick-up of their recyclables, or to unlock a low-cost reverse vending machine. Upon collection of clean and sorted recyclables, the users are attributed with Cycled Tokens equivalent to 20% of the value of the recyclables they contribute. In addition, they are entered into a lucky dip for an instant prize, and participants with the highest recycling rates in certain regions will also be credited with prizes weekly
 
   




We have already used this model to divert 180 tons of recyclables away from landfills!!


 

The blockchain implementation is to ensure:
-   Transparent distribution of incentives
-   An adequate method of tracking the lifecycle of recyclables in order to hold big brands responsible for their efforts in ensuring that their packaging are being recycled.
-    A system, synonymous to the credit score, which will hold each individual responsible for the way they dispose their waste.
-   The currency for recyclables is standardized


Cycled technologies is a Norwegian company founded by a Nigerian cleantech professional and programmer (Ph.D candidate), a Norwegian seasoned CEO in the green waste management industry (MBA), a German clean tech consultant for the Norwegian and Nordic Governments in the Middle East (M.Sc. in clean tech) and an Italian Professor of Material Science.  The technical manpower is being provided by AKEO AS, a Norwegian IT firm with a blockchain consultation arm and dapps development team.  

Business Model
Based on our expertise in Material Science, Cycled Technologies will develop recycling facilities that will, at the bare minimum, recover the original value of the waste we collect. These facilities will then sell the materials we recycle as raw materials for new products. The revenue from this facility will be used to fuel the incentive mechanism for the waste disposer and collector. The company will also sell its smart bins to organizations to run their social incentive based recycling campaigns while relying on the blockchain to fairly and transparently distribute incentives. At the core of our values is to ensure we upcycle all the materials we collect while empowering independent waste collectors with a higher financial and social status.

The tokens reserved for the CycledApp will be distributed among the countries we plan to operate and used as recycling incentives during the startup phase in each country. The figure below shows the distribution per continent.



NOTE: The Cycled App’s token allocation will be further distributed within countries and used as the early stage reward for recycling upon entry into individual markets. Each country’s allocation will only be released when we begin full operation in their market. Upon exhausting the initial allocation for each market, Cycled Technologies AS will buy subsequent tokens from the exchange to distribute as recycling rewards in that country. A proportion of the CSR contributions from other companies will also be used to buy Cycled Tokens in order to substantiate tokens attributed, in the app, to recyclables from contributing brands.
