The project looks frankly interesting, in any case, I have not seen anything like this, so I will watch the development with great interest.

Hi ktulhu,

Thanks for the encouragement, and glad to hear you're so interested. Be sure to follow our other channels as well, specifically Twitter and our newsletter, to be sure you don't miss any updates.

Just curious - are you more interested in the sportsbetting aspect of Bookie or the fact that it's on a blockchain? Or both?

@bookieapps. This is confusing. Users will have to use a faucet to get tokens to beta test your service? Why not give the testers the tokens? It would be easier for everyone hehehe.

Also, my question really was if your service was fully operational, will it use only PPY tokens or not?

Hey @bbc.reporter! Sorry for the confusion.

>>Why not give the testers the tokens? It would be easier for everyone hehehe.

You are right, that is easiest for everyone. And that is what we are going to do!
When users make a new account on the Bookie Beta app, they will get play tokens deposited straight into the account. (The technology that puts the tokens in the user account is called a 'faucet' ... but users will not have to go somewhere else to get tokens).

>>Also, my question really was if your service was fully operational, will it use
>>only PPY tokens or not?

Bookie will NEVER use PPY tokens as a betting currency.
(PPY tokens are the native token of the Peerplays blockchain. They will not be used for betting on the Bookie app).

Just have a big number of games up for upper and be lightning fast with grading the bets.. If you are able to do that, you'll rise through the ranks quickly!

Hi Hhampuz,

Thanks for the encouragement! Not long ago we asked BitcoinTalk (actually, it was this thread!) which sports they'd like to see when Bookie launches. With the likely candidates being soccer, basketball, American football, etc, there should be no shortage of games to bet on.

As for the speed part of your question: You may have seen this already, but all sports data will be pulled from multiple Data Proxies, and then merged & verified through BOS (Bookie Oracle Software). I've linked each of these steps to corresponding articles, if you're interested in reading more.

Because the whole proces is automated on the blockchain, settling of bets should happen within minutes of the actual end of an event. The Peerplays blockchain - which will host Bookie - was built specifically for highspeed gaming and betting. As you say - lightning fast!

Hope you'll be joining when Bookie Public Beta launches for the World Cup? (Reminder: play for free, win real BTC prizes!)

Betting with Bookie: Introduction to Odds

Betting with Bookie is an ongoing educational series designed to demystify the betting experience. Each article will tackle sports betting terminology and concepts in a simple way, in an effort to make you a better bettor.
If you’ve ever visited an online sportsbook or betting exchange then you know they often list multiple odds formats. In some cases the default format is simply the name of the country in which it originated or is most popular - American, Hong Kong, Malaysian, and Indonesian odds - which all work in different ways.

Other times the format is more straightforward, like Decimal and Fractional odds. No one format is more right or more wrong than the others; it’s often just a matter of preference.

Regardless of format, one thing is always true: the less likely an outcome, the bigger the reward. Because of this, understanding how to read various odds formats, and knowing how to convert between them, is an important element to successful betting.

This article will give you a better understanding of the three most common formats.

Hi Semsyor,

Thanks for sharing this excerpt! Much appreciated. Happy to see you've been following our Steemit articles series. Would love to hear more of your thoughts.

Do you plan to take part in Bookie Public Beta, which is launching in time for this year's World Cup?
30  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bookie Public Beta on: April 06, 2018, 12:00:43 PM
What cryptocoin will people be using if they make bets on your platform? Not PPY tokens I hope. Converting our bitcoins to hold PPY would not be suitable for bitcoin gamblers.

Also, I see a front page but I do not see any login boxes or registration buttons. How do we beta test it?

hi bbc.reporter

PPY tokens will NOT be used for betting on Bookie (good question!).

For the Bookie Public Beta, users will bet with play tokens, which they will receive from a faucet on sign-up.

We get what bitcoin gamblers need -  check out this answer from our recent AMA, should be interesting for all bitcoin gamblers out there:

Bookie Public Beta has not started yet, it will be ready by early June, in time for WC 2018. It will be a downloadable app, not web-based. We hope you'll join us in the public beta, with some really nice BTC prizes up for grabs in a whole range of different betting competitions.
31  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bookie Public Beta on: April 06, 2018, 11:57:10 AM
- This is more like a peer-to-peer betting chain without a bookie.Traditionally, most of the sports-betting websites are a bookie themselves linked to a chain of bookies. When you say your platform is decentralised,do you mean all your chains are completely free to create their own odds ?

- Website says anonymous betting but requires me to sign up to use the service. This is a turn down.

hi Patatas.
When we say that Bookie is decentralized, we mean that it is built on a blockchain. There are no centralized servers, no 'house', no single company behind this. Just like Bitcoin is a decentralized currency, and Ethereum is a decentralized computer, Bookie is a decentralized betting exchange.

And, yes, a betting exchnage allows users to create their own odds. It is true P2P betting.

So Bookie is P2P betting on a blockchain =)

>>Website says anonymous betting but requires me to
>>sign up to use the service. This is a turn down.

The sign-up is just to receive email newsletters, so we can let you know more details about the BTC competitions and when the public beta goes live. But when you download the Bookie app (soon!), it will be a completely anonymous sign-up - no email, no personal details - just choose a username and start betting.

Looks cool and promising, I will have my eye regularly on this one and hope you guys will keep your words and will launch a full version of the platform before world cup kicks in.

I have subscribed your newsletter so now I am in your notification squad.  Wink

hi piloder, great news, thanks for your support and interest. We are committed to launching Bookie Public Beta in time for WC 2018, with play money betting and real BTC prizes. We look forward to you joining us!
33  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bookie Public Beta on: April 06, 2018, 11:51:00 AM
The site looks clean but I think there's lots of work yet to do, as the app is coming in 2019. Also you say you work like a stock exchange so the person betting has to first deposit money and all his details is out in the public or it's post the bet one needs to deposit? What kind of % are you charging users? Also what do you mean by no one owns bookies you'll need to give few payment proof first.

hey Juggy777. The Bookie app goes into public beta in 2018, in time for the World Cup. (not 2019!)

Yes, you need to have money in your account before placing a bet, just the same as all sports betting. Bookie will definitely NOT share user details in public - because Bookie does not store ANY personal data! There is no KYC, all accounts are anonymous. Sign-up takes 10 seconds to complete... choose a user name, save your password - done.

Betting exchanges charge a commission on winning bets - Bookie commission hasn't been finalized yet, but will be much lower than Betfair's 5%. You can read more about how Bookie commission works on our recent AMA:

When we say that no one owns Bookie, it means that Bookie is a fully decentralized sports betting exchange - it is built on top of the Peeprlays blockchain. Who owns a public blockchain? No one.

But you are 100% correct - Bookie needs to prove to all you bettors out there that it is trustworthy, secure and FAIR. That's why we're sponsoring real BTC prizes on the public beta - to show everyone how Bookie works. We hope you come and check it out during World Cup 2018.

Hi Pab,

Bookie Public Beta will be ready for World Cup 2018, obviously one of the most popular betting events in the world. You'll be able to play for free and win real bitcoin prizes. Hopefully we'll see you there!

Would love to hear more of your thoughts and ideas in the new Bookie Public Beta thread.

Thanks!

Hi Pab,

We hear what you’re saying about challenges and issues in betting on horse racing. However, we are concentrating on building support for sports like American Football, basketball, soccer, etc. The main reason is that we expect the majority of Bookie's early adopters to be more interested in these sports. But in addition to this, the proper implementation of horse racing on Bookie is technically more complex.

So, horse racing isn’t a focus for Bookie in the short-term. Not to say that we won’t include it at a later date.

I bet on uk ire horse racing.Last Cheltenham festival geerated not mln but blns in bets
There is not any cryptocurrency bookie what is offering horse racing betting
Races are every day all year on all continents, and people are puting really high money
Bigest bookies frauds are ongoing on horse racing together with suspending accounts in a case of bettors win

If you will be popular and competitive to fiat money  biggest bookies than you will have planty of  horse racing bettors
Punters are really tired of that what bookies are performing to them
But sure new develepmont need to be live tested on most popular sports
Hope you will be ready for Mundial

Good question. (What you call 'odds', are typically called 'lines' or 'handicaps', we think?). We answered this question in our recent AMA:

https://www.reddit.com/r/OfficialBookie/comments/86mm3t/bookie_ama_with_pbsas_head_of_operations_ask_me/dwd0svi/

Basically, Bookie takes an automated poll of the industry lines and provides an average of those. The 'odds' are not set by Bookie. Bookie is a betting exchange, not a sportsbook, so odds are set by Bookie users. To find out more about he difference between a betting exchange and a sports book, take a look at this article:https://steemit.com/peerplays/@bookieapp/betting-with-bookie-sportsbook-vs-betting-exchange

Ok just by reading the articles, I have a question now. How do you guys propose that the system will automatically grade the events. What I means is that how do you, without human intervention, make the system create it's own odds? For example, a game of NBA with GSW vs BOS, how will the system say that GSW - 13 vs BOS +13, something like that.
39  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bookie - Sports Betting Exchange on the Blockchain Wants Your Input on: April 04, 2018, 12:18:00 PM
Hi DMo09,

Interesting idea. The focus with Bookie has always been to offer a decentralized alternative to the established sports betting market, which turns over many billions of dollars a year, as we are all aware. Although blockhain (and even Bookie, who knows!) might be able to help in the way you describe, it isn't something that we at PBSA will be looking at in the foreseeable future.

But that's some creative thinking you've got going there... hmmm.... Maybe a company with connections in this space could build an MMA-crowd-promotion app on top of the Peerplays blockchain? Then Bookie could easily provide betting on those events. Keep the ideas coming  Smiley

Will Bookie ever have the ability to crowd-fund matches/games?  For example, in the MMA sub-culture, there are many groups of different disciplines interested in who would win a match between two non-professionals, but there is no easy way to crowdfund these fights (and bet on them).  There is no incentive for fighters to risk injury on an exhibition match, but they would if money was on the line.

Crowdfunding could bring together many other different matches or games (sport & non-sport) that would otherwise not happen.

*Even better if there were tools for promoters to use so they could get a cut for raising the money.

Seems like a natural fit for Bookie to pioneer the first crowd-funded & betting capabilities...

Hi LuanX3,

That’s exactly it! Continuing from your points, these are some advantages of Bookie (decentralized) over centralized sports betting:

•        provably fair (you don't know what sportsbook is doing on the back-end)
•        transparency of bet placement (no arguments after the fact)
•        no slow payment
•        no possibility of funds being stolen by an unethical sportsbook
•        multiple accounts

As you can see, there were many reasons to make Bookie a decentralized betting exchange. Happy to see you're as excited as we are!

Hi everyone,

We wanted to share our recent article about Data Proxies, the decentralized method by which Bookie gets its sports data for any given event.

You can read the full piece on Steemit.

Really exciting to see this! If everything checks out good here on this project then there won't be any instance that the bookie just arbitrarily cancels the bet slip for "reasons" they just make up. Most of the time they cancel it because their system made a mistake and placed pretty good odds on the bet and they have to save themselves by screwing the players. Let's see if decentralized will cure this problem.
