Ok. One more on your specifications.

edit: and the shiny, more 3d version. You could replace the badge on your BMW with it. Good for advertising the website while being in a traffic jam:

New here.
I'm mining with cgminer (altcoins) on linux and am seeing a lot of variability in price between different coins to mine.  One day LTC are worth the most to mine, one day, LTC, and the next, MNC.  I would pay for a program that finds out the most profitable coin to mine (that's the easy part as there are multiple sites telling you that all ready) and instructing cgminer to mine the most profitable coins.
Only problem is that C# is windows, isn't it.  If you could do that for windows, though, I might be able to get my rig running that.  And I'm damn sure that lots of people would want your product.

First of all, C# is not a Windows only platform. The Mono project is a very good implementation of Microsoft's C# and the CLR which is binary compatible with .Net thus using MonoDevelop you can easily build for other platforms as well.

Overclocking my card made about 10% difference, but it gets a lot hotter.  I bought it for gaming, I didn't know anything about mining back then.

Yeah. Same here. That's why I'm using a Geforce right now.  Grin

C# is a nice language to begin with. It's very much like C++ in syntax but is friendlier than C++ because you don't have to worry (too much) about pointers, memory allocation and the likes.

That doesn't mean that C++ should be discarded. Many applications are built in C and when you know C# you'll notice that you know what's going on a lot quicker then when you come from for instance VisualBasic.

Another good point of C# is that it's also supported on non-Windows platforms through Mono/MonoDevelop. Meaning that you can build the same applications for these platforms too without having to port them.

Good to see people interested in C#! If you need help, let me know.

Are you using CudaMiner?  Switching from CGMiner to CudaMiner literally doubled the hashing speed of my GTX580 (OC's graphics clock to 900MHz) to 260kH/s (scrypt)

Thanks for your interest! Yep, I'm using cudaminer with autotune. I know, I should have bought a Radeon. Though, the GTX770 is a very nice card in itself. However, I did not OC it. Dit that do much for your 580?

edit: wow it reports 256 now!  Cool

Welcome indeed!

I'm looking into the same question and from what i've read on this forum the conclusion is that asic usb keys should be bougt as cheap as possible to retain the return of investment.

BtcGuild.com was mentioned as the best option over e-bay because prices on e-bay can be too high.

Hope this gives you a bit of a head start.

I just mine for fun and to see how things perform.

So I mine LTC on my Linux desktop which is a Haswell i5 with a Geforce GTX770 at ~ 200kHash/s. Not really impressive but pleasant for me as a hobby.

I've looked into the power costs and I'm paying roughly $0.28 / kW/h.

I'm looking at some options for a dedicated mining rig but am not yet ready to choose.

I don't really want to invest hundreds into new hardware. So some cheaper 5/6 series Radeon cards combined with a AMD Sempron 145 based system and a motherboard with a minimum of three PCI-e slots would seem to be the best option for me.

But again. I'm still not certain. I just want to mine with a bit more power but don't want to loose to much on power.  Grin

I think that this is a wise choice. Skipping over something like that is never a good idea. It's there for a reason. So indeed I recommend you to retain the longer sig.

You could ofcourse contact the author to ask why he seems to be skipping this part. Maybe he can give you some extra insight.

Hi,

Ok, can I have a go too? I like to do something different. You're probably won't find it suitable for your application but I like to stir things up every now and then.  Grin

Sure just participate.

Ok. My BTC50cts. I decided a more playful route. A bit like what Google did: depart from the nerdy search engines and come up with something people can relate to. Who thinks of the googolplex when seeing the name Google?

I wanted to emphasize on the ups and downs of a currency's value by displaying the five bitcoin logo's at different elevations and emphasize this even more by the 'outlines of coins' going through the words Shorting and Bitcoins. These outlines also help in establishing the playfulness.

Also you'll notice the lower coins are drawn in a cartoonist style while the top one is the official logo in the website's base color. This is done to create a bridge between the people who are into bitcoin from a hobby perspective and those who are in it professionally. The bridge between playfulness and business.

Hi!

I've also taken a look at this code.

You need to get a whole bunch of classes translated. Classes from SpongyCastle ( https://github.com/rtyley/spongycastle ) which is a repackage of Bouncy Castle ( http://www.bouncycastle.org ) for Android and various classes from jbitcoin itself ( https://code.google.com/p/bitcoinj/source/browse/core/src/main/java/com/google/bitcoin/ )

Where Bouncy Castle has C# libraries availlable, SpongyCastle hasn't. Here lies the huge amount of work.

Do you know this library? http://bitcoincs.codeplex.com/SourceControl/latest

Before going further -and loose a good bitcoin on this- it may be a good thing to look around for solutions that are further in development. Do you need specifically jbitcoin translated?

Hi!

I've been researching this bitcoin/altcoin phenomenon for quite some time now but until now I never had the courage to invest real  Shocked money into it. If I'd only known...  Grin

But the current financial situation the world is in at the moment makes me feel that my money is safer in a bitcoin wallet then it is in a bank account. A very weird development because the money system is the system I grew up with -we all did- and I see it collapsing all around me.

Some people say that bitcoin is a scam and some say that altcoin initiatives are. But then what are the initiatives you see in real life? For instance the Brixton Pound? A currency by the people for the people. And it worked (still does I think) because it does what the official money system should have been doing all along: function as a service to the people instead of being a system that's keeping people in debt for life.

http://brixtonpound.org

And that is how I see bitcoin and altcoin. Initiatives started by the people to create a better system then we have right now. And for altcoin? I welcome every single one of 'em. For miners who want an extra chance to get into mining without mayor investments on hardware, for traders to have yet another alternative to go to when one system is attacked -I don't think the establishment is very happy with us-, see the recent events around mtgox.

Are some initiatives scams? Most certainly. But remember that scams are common in the official system too. We have to use it anyway. It's just like the real world isn't it?   Cool

So the one million bitcoin question really is: what makes bitcoin work and what could make altcoin work? To put it simple: trust. When people trust each other they are willing to invest in each other. The systems are a mere extension of ourselves.

I've finally invested into BTC and LTC. And I must say I've embraced both of them. Is LTC at a low at the moment? Some who were chatting on btc-e.com said so and were telling stories of imminent collapse. My message to those people: don't buy into stories of fear. Look at it from a positive angle: when a currency is low, there are chances of investment...

Just my BTC50cts.
