Thanks Tryninja

How do they do that? they just pay the fees themselves? Seems odd if they do! Is there anywhere else that does that?

Thanks
23  Other / Beginners & Help / BTC fees and test sends to wallets? on: January 05, 2018, 12:46:23 AM
Hi

I plan to send various amounts of BTC, LTC and ETH as I aquire them from Coinbase/GDAX to my Ledger Nano S Wallet. My question is about fees...

I know that there are fees when sending Bitcoin. Although GDAX charges me nothing to send Bitcoin to Binance, does that mean GDAX will not charge to send Bitcoin to my Ledger Nano S?

I know I should do a test send to make sure a small amount goes from any one place to another for the first time, but Im worried about fees adding up.

Can anyone advise me on these questions?
Thanks

Thanks, I plan to do that but firstly before any rises that come soon I'd like to get some money in to some strong coins, BTC, ETH, LTC etc.

Otherwise I could trade with Alt coins for a month or two, possibly not make money and all the big coins may be much more expensive.

Its hard for a beginner to know what to do. Lots of anxiety!

Thanks. BTC was at 13800USD 3 days ago, now its at 15500USD. Is it likely to go lower than this, or more likely to rise from here?

Im so new that I cant really make accurate predictions, bu just want to get something invested and sit back and try and relax for a while!

Do you consider Bitcoin low at the moment? Its still quite high overall, but lower than where it was a few weeks a go. Would you wait a few days, weeks to see if it drops more?

Goole athenticator does not back up the code.

My question is about taking a screenshot on your computer and saving the image digitally. Is this liable to hackers?  There is nothing on the image that points towards the exchange, just teh QR code and the key.

Poloniex actually tells you to print it out or save it, so that gave me confidence it might be ok but i want to be sure?

yeah I just ordered the Ledger Nano S

Just waiting for Bitcoin to drop a bit in price and for my bank to get off their asses and transfer my money!

Does anyone know the answer to my original question? Is it safe to store a screenshot of your 2fa QR code on your computer, or even to take a screenshot in the first place?

I have just ordered a Ledger Nano S. it seems very easy to use, and its much safer than hot wallets. I was going to use paper wallets but its not nearly as user friendly

Good luck

I know, Ive been kicking myself as I was so close to investing all this a year ago, but various life events got in the way and friends were sceptical so I didnt. But its not too late!

Thanks, yeah I plan to put even amounts into Bitcoin and ETH, and possibly a couple of other strong coins.

But everything is climbing and I'm still waiting for my bank to transfer the money. Could be a few more days, which is annoying. Im hoping Bitcoin will drop a bit still

Thanks for the info.

I've learned a lot in the last few days. I have ordered my Ledger Nano S and have a plan for getting into some longer term holding coins, some of the bigger ones. I will branch out into the other Alts if I feel inclined at a later date.

Its hard to know when to buy BTC as its climbing again, but looking at trend lines it seems it could drop much lower too, so just wondering when to buy in. Maybe I shoudl just dollar average over the next two weeks or so. Its changing so rapidly

I'm also interested in this. I need to check out Blockfolio too

I am just in it as a longer term investment. I nearly invested a year ago and backed out due to naysayers. Now I don't want to feel the same in a year!

I don't imagine I'll get into all the alt coins or trading. I think I'll stick with the big coins and hope they continue to appreciate and hold their place in the coming years

Thanks I did look into that.

But I am really interested in the process of printing or taking screenshots and whether its safe to store these on your computer? How do people do this safely

Thanks

I am new to this too, but thought I'd share what I know...

It depends what country you are from. I am from the UK, and coinbase was the easiest way to get some money into Bitcoin, Eth and LTC, but with fees as I first used my debit card. I would not recommend that in the long run due to fees, but its a good way to get started and play around.

As most exchanges dont accept GBP, but deal with Euros or USD, I had to use Revolut, a banking app as a go between to transfer larger amounts into my coinbase account. There are guides on how to do that.

GDAX is owned by Coinbase and you can use the same login details. The difference is that they have few or no fees. So if you want to buy the major coins, transfer your money instantly from Coinbase to Gdax from within GDAX and buy from there. Also use GDAX to move BTC etc. to your wallet or to other exchanges.

If you want to trade in other Alt coins, then you need different exchanges. I have signed up to Binance which is the becoming very popular. Bittrex is one of the most popular but they arent taking new signups now because there are too many people trying!

Make sure you enable 2fa security on all your accounts including the email you used to sign up. Also make sure you back up the QR codes when enabling 2fa...at the point where you are meat to open Google authenticator and scan the code, print it or take a screenshot. This way if you lose your phone or it dies you can get back in. Without 2fa you are at serious risk.

Thats as much as I can tell you for now Smiley

I am new to all this, and obsessively researching to make sure I am secure. So for my various accounts, email, coinbase, binance, any exchanges etc. I will enable 2fa and use the google authenticator app.

My fear is that if my phone dies or I lose it it could be a nightmare to get access to any of my accounts. I have read in a couple of threads that people take a screenshot of the QR code and key you get when first enabling 2fa. Some people said they print it and then scan the print out to make sure it works and then backup the print out somewhere safe. This seems like a very good idea

My question is...does saving a screenshot of something like this put you at risk? Obviously its not text so I dont see any easy way someone could find it. Some people talked about encrypting the screenshot, but how?

Obviously printing it and putting it somewhere seems like the safest option, but surely toprint it you need to save it first? Should you just take the screenshot, print it and then delete the image?

Any advice really appreciated, and also encouraging others to do this in some form to avoid problems in the future

Thanks
40  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions about using wallets...(Electrum, paper wallets) on: January 01, 2018, 04:16:00 AM
Thanks,

But in Electrum you can create multiple wallets, and then within those wallets you can use a different address for each transaction as you say. What is the use of using multiple wallets within Electrum?

Thanks for your help
