Just to gussy up Ryo's post on the GUI a tiny bit....

New Full GUI Wallet & LITE Wallet have been released.

This version includes binaries from RyoCurrency 0.3.0.0 'Pie Orbital' and fixes the bug where restoring from seed sometimes shows a zero balance in the GUI.  🤓

22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 【ANN】【RYO】【Cryptonight-heavy】 RyoCurrency - Privacy for everyone on: August 07, 2018, 10:32:22 PM
Will the GUI wallet release soon follow in time for the stated fork?

Yup,  Grin

[Ryo Currency 'Pie Orbital' 0.3.0.0]

The fork will occur on block 161,500. It will add the dev fund [1].

Additionally:
  • Fee increase to add a per-ring member component. This will provide better protection from blockchain spam that we experienced.
  • More secure transaction semantics. This will provide network level protection from exploits like Monero double-tx-pubkey exploit.
  • Remove variable-fee RPC calls. Fee is fixed and can be calculated without ryod.
  • A lot of bugfixes.

Automatically updated blockchain download is available at:  https://download.ryo-currency.com/blockchain.raw

Changelog
  • fix wallet #44
  • Implement stricter tx semantics #46
  • fix get_approximate_blockchain_height #47
  • improve simplewallet rescan_bc #50
  • wallet rescan bug #54 #56
  • add dev funds #56 #62 #64
  • fix ryo units #58
  • remove time lock transactions #61
  • increase fee #63
  • fix linux docker container #67

Block time is only designed to average every 10 minutes.

Block time is designed to average 240 seconds or 4 minutes, not 10 minutes.

Apologies -- you are correct, it is idealized to 4 minutes.  The rest of my logic still holds, however.  I do remember a few block times of around an hour due to difficulty spikes back when original Sumo was still on CN -- ASICs would join, snap up some blocks, then leave.  This lead to the difficulty spiking, and with the now-reduced hasrate, it took a long time for the rest of the network to find the next 1-2 blocks (at which point the difficulty would correct). This "situation" lead to the fork to CN-Heavy.  +10 minutes, tho not ideal, isn't near as bad as +60 minutes.

You're on the right track, the fork from CN to CN-Heavy was part of the solution...it was the part to brick the ASICs.

Yet, even with ASIC out of the picture it was still possible to network hop if you had a large GPU farm and could do as you mention, join and sweep up some easy diff blocks then leave once the network diff adjusted leaving the rest of the network to hash away to solve a way to hard of a block.

Well the Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm (DAA) was a SUMO customization of Zawy12's original work, the customization had a flaw which allowed the SUMO chain to be attacked for many easy blocks. This is why the SUMO chain is now so many blocks ahead of RYO's.  Psychocrypt and Fireice collaborated with Zawy12 in refining some security issues with LWMA which he backported, and since 'Free Radical' v0.2.0 Release we've been on that DAA.

As Fireice calls it, "rocking" of the network is still possible (harder to accomplish the larger the overall network hash) but the security flaws have been resolved.

[Community debate] - Let's talk about the development funding

Please keep in mind, this is a debate not a vote. Your opinion doesn't matter, your reasoning does.

Foreword
I really liked how our last debate format managed to let people who have the best interests of the coin at heart to voice their view while easily exposing those that did not, while still getting valuable feedback from them - [1]

Why do we need a dev fund?
So far we have 3 professional developers - mosu_forge, psychocrypt, and myself working on the project for free. However this is not sustainable in the long term. The ideas that we have for Ryo need a team of around 10 people to put into practice. In short, we need money to hire people. We also need funds for marketing, server costs, and many other things that have been so far paid out of our pockets.

Our ideas for Ryo
read the rest at the above link, and please post your feedback and reasoning to the Reddit thread, many thanks to all who contribute to the debate! 🙏

Apparently, the Ryo daemon still sees block candidates from the Sumo network. It will be fixed in a proper release (hopefully in the next one).

Yes, Network ID will be changed with the next daemon release to resolve network issues with sumo nodes.   Grin

Dear developers, please update us with the latest info about trading. The wallets on stocks are all in "maintenance" for 2 weeks already, when are you planning to solve that?

"If you can wait about one more week my suggestion is to wait, then we will have a new client that will run much more smoothly" - Fireice_uk today in telegram chat

It should be around the release of the new client.  Cool

Mosu was looking for some community input on something he's cooking up for the Ryo ecosystem Ryo Blocks take a look at the logos and drop a vote in the poll.

Ryo LITE Wallet (v0.1.2)

The LITE wallet will allow you to send and receive Ryo without syncing the whole blockchain by connecting to the nearest remote node available. Currently there are three remote nodes set up in Japan, Germany, and San Francisco. If needed we will add more nodes and your LITE wallet will automatically update to the newer node if it ends up being closer to you.

If you are restoring from seed words, we HIGHLY recommend you set the restore from height. Below are safe heights to use depending on when you received your first Ryo/Sumo in the wallet you are restoring:

75000 - Dec 2017
85000 - Jan 2018
96000 - Feb 2018
106500 - Mar 2018
115000 - Apr 2018
125000 - May 2018
135000 - Jun 2018

Welcome to the one true visdude.    Shocked

I left a note for Mosu that there were some GUI questions on the ANN post.
... I'm not sure why I was mistaken for being you or vice versa but it was amusing nevertheless. Undecided

This reddit thread seemed to be the genesis of Sumogr's obsession with the idea that I was you.   Roll Eyes  Interestingly further down I see that Niels was also complaining about the shutup or fork it yourself tactics, more warning signals I let slide foolishly.

I guess when your project is full of sock puppet team members you see sock puppets elsewhere, it was a clear sign I overlooked.   Angry

I kinda understand a bit about the bug that brought about the Wally Point One release but is there way to keep a "benign" display of the current block height and retain the "current synced block / current block height " display format on the GUI progress bar? It's a very useful/convenient info to have. And speaking of the progress bar (and a few other buttons) on the GUI, white text against a yellow/orange background does not provide good contrast and is therefore not conducive to aging eyes. It kinda defeats the purpose of having a dark mode/theme feature. Black text should do it.

Also, when the dust settles, will cold wallet/view-only wallet/offline signing feature (à la Monero GUI or Armory) eventually be implemented? It would make our hodls much more secure.

any way we could add key files to wallets in the future so its more safe?

GUI Wallet v0.1.2 "Wally Point Two

https://github.com/ryo-currency/ryo-gui-wallet/releases/tag/0.1.2

This release includes daemon v0.1.2 "NOASIC", which has some checkpoints to help keep your daemon healthy. Other features include:

     * Removed unnecessary password requirements. Now all ASCII characters are valid, including spaces.
     * Option to use no password at all. Upon opening the wallet the password prompt will show, but every action after that will not require a password.
     * Added pop blocks button in settings tab, default 1,000 blocks. Use this if your daemon gets stuck. It will remove the last N blocks and restart the daemon.

This release (and every release hereafter) includes the following versions:

     * Mac OS X version (dmg file)
     * Windows installer version -- this is the version most people will want to use as it installs to C:\Program Files\Ryo and puts a shortcut on your desktop.
     * Windows ZIP file -- regular zip file just containing the exe, special use only
     * Linux Release

I don't really know the story about Sumokoin and fireice, but if they will come back to the original CN, I will switch to RYO if fireice and psychocrypt are really involved in this "new" coin.
Ryo stays cryptonote-heavy and asic-proof. Fireice_uk and psychocrypt are really involved in this coin as you may see in ANN text.

I believe in the Ann post but it would be great if they give a small comment here. Those two miner developers are one of the greatest.

You may be better served joining the RYO telegram channel where they're both at.

@Nostradamus411 ... you're missing the point. Drama happened, fine. Continuing the drama and and under the belt jabs in an official announcement (quoted in my post above) mandates no excuse. It's unprofessional and drives serious people away who will rightfully class you as highschool girls and can't trust you will be able to run a successful project. Moreover, you trying to rationalize childish behavior present in an ANN post is actually making it worse, not better.

But maybe it was your intention to attract a childish, dramatic userbase ... because that's what's happening.

You have a long way to go, no offense. There is a reason why other projects attracted a lot more serious attention and money ...

No offense taken, as I said in my prior post, your candid feedback is appreciated.  You are right, we will do better.

Where you see rationalizing I had hoped to merely provide context, to-may-to / to-mah-to.

@fireice_uk and the whole team ... you need to stop acting childishly and start acting more professionally. Your whole attitude (righteous or not) has been sloppy and irritating.

Stop with the jabs, already! Grow up, act mature. No wonder serious people don't take crypto seriously ...

otherwise the whole RYO/SUMO spectacle has been a highschool girl drama attitude wise.

We appreciate your candid feedback.

It is my take that parties on both side of the spilt were running hard through the contentious days leading up to the UASF signaling and through the shockingly abrupt decision by the Origin team to hard fork.  We are all human, and we had a tight knit community that went through a massive upheaval where lines in the sand were drawn, sides were taken, and friendships damaged or destroyed.   We had, maybe naively, hoped for a more methodical and democratic resolution to the debate within the community which unfortunately did not come to be.

I must commend the Ryo Currency team for their mental/emotional fortitude and even handedness in the face of a constant deluge of character assassinations, ad hominems, and spam.  The open and transparent approach Team Ryo pledged from the outset to the community took form in Telegram Admins exerting Herculean levels of tolerance with the ban hammer and being VERY VERY tolerable of all opinions (troll or not) which certainly resulted in the team being exposed to significantly more hardship than was experienced by the Origin team who's telegram ban bot is well known by the community now.

Hopefully, all parties can put the events of the past several days behind them and focus on what's most important...driving out improvements, optimizations, and innovations to the full stack of the technology in the crypto currency ecosystem.  Not to be forgotten we also aim to foster a welcoming community where all are able to share their knowledge of the Crypto Revolution and how we can usurp control of our money and privacy back from the worlds central bankers who steal from our purchasing power through the insidious and invisible inflation tax and track our every purchase.

We hope you stick around and watch what the team can deliver, you won't be disappointed.  Cool
