21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GridSeed 5-chip USB miner voltage mod on: May 04, 2014, 07:18:46 PM

Does anybody know what this two parts(yellow marked)? my 5volt mode with 49.9k resistor swapped pot is blown(13 out of 20 GS) after 3 days 24/7 run for unknown reason. windows still recognize the com port and 5 chip still visible in cpuminer. if anybody knows the value of this two i might try to change this to see if it works.

I think they are marked as F824 & F823

I am trying to identify the shorts in the pcb board , so far I found 3 capacitor might be short or faulty which is in yellow marked. i believe they are C9, C12 and C205. can somebody double check the value and the label for me please.

C9=10uf/16v
C12=220uf/25v
C205=22uF

3 of this capa looks same size, are they C1206 footprint?

No problem.  Those parts should be pretty cheap, hopefully that's all that was damaged.  Only way to find out is to replace them with identical spec replacements.  Someone mentioned the possibility of temporarily bypassing those parts to verify functionality of the gridseed - however if it were mine, I'd replace the parts before testing it.

:EDIT:  What thermal paste did you use?  Non-conductive I hope.  You might want to clean that up while you've got it apart.  In my opinion, there's no real point in using thermal paste unless you are positive the heatsink makes full contact with all 5 gc3355 chips.  On all the gridseeds I have there are 2 components which are taller than the gc3355's and prevent full contact.  I milled out part of the heatsink over those two components so the heatsink made full contact.   I posted a pic in this thread somewhere of it.  However, if you do that, then the heatsink will likely make contact with all the capacitors surrounding the gc3355's.  So I covered those with electrical tape to prevent a short.

thermal paste i used was left over non-conductive MX-4. it will be fun to clean this mess!!! I will think about the milling out that small part as you did.

The footprint is actually listed as R1206.  I believe those are part of the 12v circuitry on the board, so it could be from a surge of some sort I suppose.  I've seen another report of those beads blowing for someone else but I don't recall what the total damage (beads + collateral) was.

EDIT:  For reference, the information about the board layout and parts list is on github here: https://github.com/gridseed/gc3355-doc or here: https://github.com/gridseed/usb-miner

Thanks for the help!

Ferrite Beads.
300ohm@100MHz,3A

Thanks for quick replay, any idea why would it might blow? Also is it 0603 ?

The previous update was working great, but the most recent after the TUI recode and stratum fix crashes after about 2 hours.  The previous version was running solid for 15 hours until I stopped to update.  I can still view the screen but all text has stopped updating on the worker is not online anymore.  Very similar looking crash to the update from 2 revisions ago, before the "TUI stuck" issue was addressed.  I'm sorry if this is no help.   Roll Eyes

RBPi with 3.10.30+ kernel
All updates done
21 5 chip miners

Have you tried running the program in background? (With -t option, TUI will be disabled)
Mine has been running for 8 hrs without problem, using the latest binary on RPi with -D and -t option.
However the drop out issue on Windows 7 seems still persist even with FIFO is disabled. So I'm sticking with PRi build now. With log output and web interface it's still manageable

Which webinterface you using for rassbery pi?

Great!!! What command can i use to watch the TUI output of CPU miner while it is running in background? I m using RPI with Debian wheezy.

ok I finally giving up running CPUMiner on Windows 7 and switched to Raspberry pi for some testing. Let's see if it will stop sending shares after a few minutes. So far they're running for 120+ minutes and doing fine. However I noticed a little drop of mining performance reported from pool side. Anyone using Raspberry pi for mining now? It it normal?

+1 to this.  Been running a blade for a few days now with mixed results.  Windows seems to top out at bursts over 4MH but averaging slightly under, nowhere near advertised clock speed.  Put both halves on separate pools to test results to see if it is the unit in question or an individual blade side.

For RPi, are people using the ZH image, image from another vendor, etc.?  Setting up the ZH image right now so I can test with that.

Out of curiosity, what freq are people finding most reliable?  I've read through this thread a bit and want to try out the jmordica cgminer fork (see people mentioning 838 freq a few times), but all-in-all the hardware just appears to be underperforming right now and I can't quite crack why due to lacking software support. Sad

I'm using Rasperian with a web based management interface which use CPUMiner. It has been 3 hrs now and pool side reports a more stable but slightly lower hash rate (8.9Mh/s~11Mh/s). I'm running 10x gridseed USB Miner plus a G-blade (2 instance) with auto-tune mode ON, plus 5x GTX 750 Ti at default speed (Result in a total of around 1.3Mh/s). The hash rate is kind of low isn't it?

Which RPI IMAGE comes with web GUI (use cpuminer)?
29  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: LightningAsic Gridseed Controller Firmware V3 on: April 20, 2014, 09:57:34 PM
Anybody use this firmware with moded(volt-mode) over-clocked (=/>1100mhz) gridseeds? Can you share your experience please?
I've tried to mine with volt-moded miner.
It didn't work.
Do you have same problem?

I havent try yet. still waiting for 703n to delivere. did you try with un-moded one to make sure controller is working with pool...?

Just an update for my purchase, i bought 20x pack which still didn't receive, spend $3100 which is now $2200.

Just a easy and quick question as you are not replaying my(or is it not only me?) email/PM, are you gonna make up the price difference or you want me to return the 20x package when i received(probably next month) my order?

Gbyg,

I would be happy to refund you the difference between the price you bought for and the current price. Sorry for the late reply, as I have been burning the midnight oil the last two day due to a huge shipment of Gridseed products to get out to all customers.

It will be nice but still waiting to discuss with you about paypal and customs. its been 3 days they have it in customs. if you don't take an action to resolve the problem it will be send back from there. so please give me an appointment to chat.

I haven't heard anything from you yet. Can you let me know when u r online in Skype/forum/...... I belive the shipment will be returned from customs if you don't take any action.

With the amount of negative feedback being left in his threads regarding similar service, and my recent experience with this order, I would not recommend Atari if you value customer service.  You will probably have a better experience with GAW.  While I have not purchased units from them, I can appreciate their reviews and the reported levels of customer service they give their customers.

Careful with that. GAW clean their threads of negative feedback. They also bribe unsatisfied users with free hashpower - maybe not a bad thing by itself but it skews their public reputation. In reality expect delays, missing parts, slow to non-existent customer service, the usual.

Strongly agreed!!!! Really bad communication from atari02 . my problem is communication more then anything else. gawminer is little bit better then atari02 but he only answer when he want to. I m sick of sending them email/pm.

atari02,

I actually didn't see your last replay, send me a pm

It is beyond my comprehension that users are willing to run hardware on their local network knowing someone else (unknown) has root access to the device. Especially inside the world of digital currencies. Why risk it? Use rasp pi and feel safe in the knowledge that you are in control. The modified mining software used in this binary is on github.

Maybe someone can try to change the root pw, activate ssh and create a new backup by a ttl adapter:

http://zerolab.net/2013/04/30/tp-link-tl-wr703r-unbrick/
I dont like a closed system in my network too, i totally agree to Xell.
Its a good work, but we must be able to check what it is doing else. Sorry Sandor.

Is ssh not active? I gave away my 703n , so can't check.

Atari please check your PM box. Please provide any info about when broken unit will be exchanged for working one. This one was broken on arrival.

Expect an email soon from GawMiners.

Cheers

Still no contact from either GAW or you Atari...

Hi, I confirmed an email was sent. Perhaps you could check your email again? Or I can send through PM?

I'm using gmail which is instantly received on my phone.
I didn't receive any email. Also checked spam folder.

I dont think their email works.... or only works one way.
