Well after what happened to NH few years back I don't blame them for initial overreaction. But the way they handled the whole thing... yuk

What happened back in 2017 has nothing in common with what they did this past weekend except that both incidents are the fault of NH.  Other than that, nothing in common.

Where was he comparing these two occasions? Just expressed his opinion on reacting to things, nothing else.

in 2017 it was an outside hack and lack of properly IT security.  On that occasion Nicehash took responsibility and did not overreact.  In 2020, they downloaded miner from an unreliable source and then panicked and started slandering and spreading FUD.  He compared the two occasions as justification for their recent over reaction.  That casually equivalency by people is why NH will get away with this recent shit.

eth is back over $1811 and paying  9.78 cents an mh

if it can stay at 9.78 cents an mh

buying slightly over priced cards is fine.

Define slightly over priced.  10%, 20% over MSRP or 2x over MSRP?  Because unless you have some connections or willing to spend a lot of time hunting them down on websites/boards most usable gpu's are running crazy 2x or higher msrp.

I would pay 1165 for 3080 and take may delivery
I would pay   920 for 3070 and take may delivery

I can get both deals above.

I can also do Newegg Shuffle which sometimes hits.

I would not pay 2000 for a 3080 and instant ship
I would not pay 1300 for a 3070 and instant ship

If you can get 3080's at that price, you should grab them and flip them all day for $200/250 mark up and skip the mining.  But the average joe miner does not have connections that can get cards at that price even with May deliver date.

Phoenix,

You guys may want to consider legal action. Seems like pretty clear cut defamation and anyone that switches off of PhoenixMiner because of their misinformation would be legitimate legal damages. If they want to be bullies a good legal punch in the nose is the least they deserve. If nothing else a letter from a lawyer may be enough to get them to issue a public apology if only out of fear of the legal follow through.

Also not sure what kind of Admin controls you have on this thread, but maybe prevent people from posting links, I've seen 2 brand new accounts in the past few minutes posting "temporary links for phoenixminer"

Maybe see if Bitcointalk can figure out where the accounts are coming from. Might be an individual bad actor trying to take advantage.

Sadly NH is not based in a country with a strong legimate legal system.  If it were, djeZo would be in the custody of the FBI for outstanding warrants regarding is 2019 crimes.  Suing NH is going to be an uphill battle and honestly the money is better spent building a better miner and promoting it.  Yeah it will take time for most people to get past the shit that NH threw and trust PM again, but like Johnson and Johnson (Tylenol incident) they will get past it.

Just wondering is it still worth investing 10k$ in graphics cards and mine on the long run or is mining dead with ETH new announcement ...

Thanks,
$ 10,000 now costs 1 farm 3060ti * 6 video cards. But be careful with investments, because the new Nvidia models will be limited in Ethereum mining.
I will wait for a drop in prices for video cards and only then I will invest in mining. So far, I believe that the prices for video cards are very expensive.
It may happen that you invest $ 10,000 and the profit per day drops to $ 6 from 1 farm.

I was talking about buying cards at their original cost not from scalpers eg (3080 cost of the 800-1000$) not electric 2000+ !..

Also how does it sound 580$ for an 1080ti ?!...

It depends upon the condition of the 1080ti.  If it in good shape absolutely.  But you better plan to pull the heatsink and redo the thermal pads and paste just as a precaution, of course that should be a given.  Tweaked right, and you can easily get 41 to 45 mh/s.  Then based upon the numbers that philipma1957  posted in his reply for profitability per mh of 9.02cents/mh gives you a gross of $3.69 to $4.06 per card. Guessing power draw of 180w your daily electric costs 10 cents/kwh =$.45 so net around $3.24 to $3.61 per day.  That would make your ROI at about 165 to 180 days.

I am not seeing the promised apology on Nicehash so far....

I am out of there too.
Switching to Phoenix on Ubuntu. No more Nicehash, no more Windows 10 shenanigans.

Glad to see Phoenix is alive and doing well.

And if I was a betting man, you wouldn't either.  NH is run by a convicted felon, and accused fraudster (and probably get convicted of that crime too).  Running in a country with very lax enforcement for those with money to grease the hands of officials.   Honestly if you are okay supporting that type of business then I don't know where you draw the line on shady business practices.

Oh the spinning of NH reaction and smear campaign on their Reddit forum is gone to new heights.  The main arguement why NH is not responsible for the FUD and smear campaign is because the end user click a pop up and download the 5.5d so therefore its on the end user for downloading it, without vetting it.  Ignoring the fact that NH offered it and therefore implied it was a validate version.  I am always amazed at some of the stupid logic that people use to defend the indefensible actions of companies NH and djeZo.

So has it been confirmed that NiceHash did not distribute any malware through a bad version of phoenix miner? I see a bunch of FUD and people claiming they did but no proof reading through everything.

I think your answer is in their Tweets and Reddit postings.  When they realized that they pushed a version that they could not validate, they panicked and start spewing their FUD to the masses.  Was it malware, does it even matter, it was not an official release of Phoenix miner.  So what are the takeaways?

1. Do not trust any software you get thru Nicehash.  Clearly they have no documented process or procedures to properly vet updates to miners.  This includes their own developed software.
2. Consider the source when getting information from anyone.  Ask yourself, 'What if any benefit could the source get from this information they are spreading?'   In NH case a few things.
    a. Legal cover in case it was actually malware, although their latest TOS should protect them,  becauses says we use their software are our own peril.
    b. Promote their own in house miner.  Which maybe open source now, but who knows 6 months from now, it could be close source and collect a fee from users.
    c. Eliminate a competitor so there are few options.  From what I gather Nicehash and independent developers treat each other as 'necessary evil partners'.

3. Where ever and when ever possible don't use their windows app, as you have no idea where and if they vet any thing pushed to your desktop. That goes for any publisher of software.  All it takes is one bad apple and your
    information is on the darkweb.
