21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: March 20, 2018, 02:45:48 AM
Have any of you tried out Abra yet?

I'm tempted to give it a go just to see what it's like and how it works. Do you know if you're able to transfer out any crypto you've purchased on there to private wallets?
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ELF] Aelf - Scalable Blockchains: Multi-Chain / Parallel Processing on: March 20, 2018, 02:38:17 AM
who has more than 10k subscribers on Twitter? how much on average do you get ELF performing all the tasks?

It would be interesting to know, I'm willing to bet it's quite a bit of ELF that's for sure. Grin

Need a better understanding of Aelf? Check out this great beginner guide: https://blockonomi.com/aelf-guide/

This is a very nice write-up indeed! Would recommend to any newcomer to AELF to have a read over it. Smiley

Sorry if this has already been answered, but could someone please explain to me why the Ethereum Foundation didn't consider this a threat (at least according to this researcher)?

24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XRB]Cryptocurrency's killer app: RaiBlocks micropayments on: March 14, 2018, 02:21:12 AM
NANO has become new favorite toy for traders. Current volatility yields great profits. Hopefully will manage to break the resistance soon enough.
Just seen this coin. its crazy. from cap in 300k to 1.5 billion in on year. What happen with this coin?

Does what it says on the tin (largely), I suppose. One of late 2017/early 2018's hypecoins for sure. Will be following this one with interest, it's a real shame what's happened with Bitgrail and such though. Wish the devs and community all the best moving forward.

Quote
No fees: The RaiBlocks network has no notion of fees.
Low latency: Transactions are natively processed instantly giving a responsive experience.
Scalability: Micropayments require a system capable of significant scalability
Simplicity: Users have a simple experience without technical jargon.

I have quoted this message to remind you at next block halving.  Cheesy

not out on LTC or BTC HODL'ing...I may be out of personal LTC minnig the way I was pushed out of personal BTC mining in 2014....

sigh....

I need another equipment miracle this year...

'unicorn equipment falling from the sky" that makes sense and can ROI in a year w/o the usual bitmain ...dumping them like toaster games...

seems unlikely

brad

or... regulations totally help out smaller miners by closing all the large mining farms and the network hashrate drops tremendously.

meh.. i reckon golden unicorn hardware falling from the sky is probably more likely.

Bitmain might be dumping hardware at the moment, but the prices are really really nice. An S9 decreased from 2400 to 1900 USD with very quick shipment. Not to mention A3.
They also offer tons of discount coupons now - from 100 to 200 USD per machine. All of this is till June. I.e. we could expect any new unicorn coming in the second half of this year Smiley

perhaps the 7nm unicorns? which.. bitmain are probably currently mining with already.

I'm fairly well convinced that this is exactly what they're doing, too.

Hi;

Can anyone tell, how "Biakal Giant N" miner will affect this project?

Kind regards

It won't.  If it is real, it has probably already had it's effect.  Bricking it may have a further effect, time will tell.  Soon.

At the least, it has spurred to action the PoW alteration scheme that has been mumbled about for some time.  The next few weeks should will be interesting!

Looking forward to seeing it all unfold that's for sure. These ASICs didn't last long, much like that silly spork earlier in the month really. Cheesy Cool

We’re thrilled that ELF is now live on the Bancor Network. This allows ELF to be instantly converted
to dozens of other tokens without an exchange, counterparty or added fees, using a Web3 wallet like
MetaMask. https://steemit.com/bancor/@bancor-network/4gurrp-how-to-use-the-bancor-web-app

Nice, it's cool to see ELF on Bancor! We're making tracks everywhere it seems. Good stuff. Grin

where should I hold my XMR if I want to get MoneroV? Thanks

http://scamcoin.com  has all of the answers.

Out of sheer curiosity, what would you want monerov for?  It has no purpose, no markets, no value, and is such an obvious scam.  You can't even put it on a shelf to laugh at. You can't see it, you can't sell it trade it or spend it.  It's a virtual scam.  What is the point?

Scamcoin.com!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Really, there is no point in this spork, but people will do it anyway chasing a quick buck. Luckily I'm fairly certain most people actually interested in Monero won't bother. Has there been an analysis done on how much these greedy few could potentially affect others though? I'd be interested in reading it if so.

It is good for XMR to make its place among top five which are only cryptocurrencies of which price index is added on cointelegraph. It will have its impact in the long run with this kind of exposure. It provides easy access to changes while reading all the articles at the same time. Though little step but huge affect it will produce.

Indeed, free publicity for Monero is the way to look at it I think, and the more interest for Monero generated out of this the better for the coin in the long-run! Grin

Nice to see Monero getting more attention, even if it is due in part to this silly spork. Grin
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ELF] Aelf - Scalable Blockchains: Multi-Chain / Parallel Processing on: March 03, 2018, 09:58:44 AM
Finally the new thread is open! Awesome! Looking forward to more updates.

tell me exactly how the coins are displayed? why are not all coins available for withdrawal?

The ELF that you've earned and that is available to withdraw is based on what you earned in the corresponding 24 hour period 30 days ago.

This means you will be able to withdraw a little bit each day if you want (and it is feasible to do so), otherwise by the time you reach the 30th day, you can withdraw the earnings from all of the previous 30 days, all at once.

Withdrawals opened up on the 25th of February, where you could withdraw your first days earnings if you signed up on day one of the Candy/Bounty program I believe.

Visualization of Monero development  --> 2018

Wow. It just gets swarmed with developers in 2018. They look like a cloud of nats. Exciting times.

Yes indeed, and hopefully that trend continues well into the future. Grin

Announcement - Proof-of-Work tweak and a note on key reuse

https://getmonero.org/2018/02/11/PoW-change-and-key-reuse.html

This is only second in this blog post, but this bears emphasis:

Do NOT reuse your Monero keys for any other purpose, including Monero forks.

Your Monero keys are *Monero* keys. Using them on another chain will destroy your privacy, as well as others'.

If you want to fork Monero, don't be lazy, start your own blockchain like others did before.

Should've mentioned that in my post, this is really important for users to know.

Thanks for highlighting this, let's spread the word!

Announcement - Proof-of-Work tweak and a note on key reuse

https://getmonero.org/2018/02/11/PoW-change-and-key-reuse.html

Quote
In sum, we strongly believe that it's beneficial to preserve our ASIC resistance. Therefore, we will perform an emergency hard fork to curb any potential threat from ASICs if needed. Furthermore, in order to maintain its goal of decentralization and to provide a deterrent for ASIC development and to protect against unknown or undetectable ASIC development, the Monero team proposes modifying the Cryptonight PoW hash every scheduled fork, twice a year. The modifications will be light, and should not change performance profiles much. The first change is now being tested, and will happen in the coming March fork. Finally, we will continue to research alternative Proof of Work functions that may provide better ASIC resistance than Cryptonight.

Patches will be available for the following software: zone117x's pool, Snipa's pool, Lucas Jones' CPU miner, wolf0's CPU miner, ccminer-cryptonight, sgminer-gm, xmr-stak, xmrig-nvidia, wolf-xmr-miner.

Have any such PoW functions been mentioned, does anyone know?

The depth of human stupidity never fails to astound and entertain.  Well, the greed, too Cheesy

't was a good read, made my morning better. I love to see scammers get caught, although these seem to be of the less intelligent ones Smiley
Some are too stupid even to steal. They've kept money on exchange LOL.
But I fail to understand who invest real money (or proper coins) into this kind of scams.

On the other side, more Monero Whatever coins are created, means more are aware that Monero is a strong coin and its name can make them money.
It's a sad trend, for Monero, for Bitcoin, for all the coins with the name used for schemes, but hey, there's no Dubaicoin Gold yet, isn't it? Cheesy

Those with more money than sense evidently. But it always poses the question; how did they acquire that money in the first place?

As as you say though, with reference to the Monero scam clones; imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...  Cool
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: February 05, 2018, 03:21:24 AM
I seen reports today that exploit malware is mining Monero covertly? Any one else know about this?

There is tons of this going on. It might be the vast majority of monero's hashrate for all we know. It isn't news.

Indeed, far from it. This has been known for a long time and only serves to strengthen Monero's network. I know certain pool owners have been banning suspected botnet accounts from running on their pools.

Can someone tell me anything about monero gold?
Of course, I got it from airdrop. gold monero still sat sweet in my wallet until now. the price of XMRG falls very far now, if i sell it now then i will not get anything. I can only hope gold monero will soon go to the moon.

Better yet, to Uranus.  And take its scammers with it.

Bitcoin Gold, Monero Gold, what's next, Litecoin Gold? Beyond ridiculous. Makes projects like Monero seem ever the more precious.

Earlier bitcoin was so important not only because his price increase very fast.
He was a gate to crypto trading world. Today there are a lot of other crypto like Monero, LTC, BCH, ETH and others . you can buy them, send to exchanges for trading or hold them for future sell. Altcoins today must be more independent from Bitcoin price.

I don't disagree, we're slowly starting to edge away from BTC's dominance over the entire marketplace with more fiat gateways opening up all the time and this can only be a positive thing for crypto in the long-run I think. Seems there will be some teething issues in the meantime, but independence is coming most certainly.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: February 03, 2018, 04:01:22 PM
i think target price for bitcoin is 1500$ .

Determination of this week for that, it will all happen in an instant and we never know will be true to $ 1500 or even below it.

$1500! Wowee! And how do you expect XMR will fare? Grin
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 31, 2018, 09:14:18 PM

One other thing; considering we're moving to the Monero forum (which I personally think is a fantastic idea as crypto is far greater in appeal than just BTC or any one single project now), but does that this mean this thread is now considered legacy? I agree with the sentiment behind the move but I do enjoy the ability to converse on different projects in the one place.

The getmonero forum is used for official notices, and that's about it.  Most action seems to be on reddit these days, as BTCtalk has been mostly abandoned for a long time now.  A few of us legacy lurkers still around, for the reason you cite, but everything is at least second hand here.

Ah OK, thanks for the heads up then. I've posted a little in XMR subs but always saw BTCtalk as the de-facto place to talk crypto, even with the surge of crypto sub popularity... I'll keep that in mind -- thanks again!

Does anyone know anything about the upcomming Bulletproof release? It hasn't been validated just yet, but I heard from a friend that there may be a fee reduction of 84%? Would be great!

Bulletproofs are under development but there is no specific release scheduled yet. The technology is very new and the math/cryptography team is still coming up with improvements, scrutinizing it for weaknesses, etc. There is a plan for a full formal review before it goes live. It does indeed reduce transaction size (and therefore fees) by about 80%.

To add, for anyone interested in Bulletproofs & fees, see:

https://getmonero.org/2017/12/11/A-note-on-fees.html

Thank you dEBRUYNE, this was well worth the read. Do you know if the testnet with Bulletproofs is far off as mentioned here?

The single-output Bulletproofs are currently live on testnet. However, Bulletproofs in general will not be live on mainnet until, probably, September this year, as we want to have them properly audited, i.e., check whether the code matches the math in the paper, check whether there are no "coin-killer" bugs in there, and more generally extend the time how long it has been out there (the paper is only a few months old).

Absolutely, I understand that these things can't be rushed and I'd much rather any future solution to be of sound quality than to rush it out for the sake of it. XMR is one of my favourite projects exactly for that reason. Thank you for the rough estimation on Bulletproof's being available on mainnet, I won't take it as gospel as I know there are never any certainties on deadlines when it comes to development.
