question slipping through: any way to see if my magid client (not the qt!) is staking? i have set the `-posii` flag, but I don't see anything about the staking happening... can't find any way to see wether it's staking and what my weight it :\
Anybody who could answer this question? All I can find is WITH the Qt, not with JUST the magid (I'm running my magid on a CLI so the GUI is no option) I've noticed that when staking all of my CPUs go to 100%. You could check your CPU usage. At least then you would know it is doing something (but still won't know exactly what).

Almost 3 hours and still not enough weight just because my wallet was off-line for <1 minute. This is crazy.

Some mining questions.
PoS mining:
Are the rewards linear to hashing power? That is, if I only dedicate 1 CPU to PoS while the other 3 mine, will I get less PoS rewards than if I dedicated all 4 CPU to staking?
How is PoS weight calculated? How/why can I go from a weight of 168 to a weight of 0 just because I restarted my wallet?
PoW mining (solo):
It has been said repeatedly that solo mining is worse than playing the lottery. Can someone explain why? How long would it take to solve a block at ~52kh/s?
If I do eventually solve a block, what is the pay? Variable from 1-10 XMG? Fraction of an XMG?
Am I trying to solo mine on the same block that the pools are solving?
If so, how can I mine a unique block where no one else is trying to solve it?

And now I have restarted my wallet one to many times. I went from a weight of 168 to not enough weight to stake. Aargh!!

OK. Perhaps I should just be more patient. I still don't understand why it has continually said next reward in 1 hour for the last 5 hours without posting a reward though.

|
I get that this is the staking reward. What I don't get is that it doesn't show up until/unless I restart my wallet. Meanwhile staking always shows "Expected time to earn rewards is 1 hour(s)."

I saw and read the manual (thanks), but it doesn't explain why/how PoS determines how long it will take for a reward. On a side note, I restarted my wallet and had a transaction from PoS mining. Could it be a bug that the transactions do not update to wallet unless wallet restarts? Meanwhile, time to next reward is 1 hour (as always).

Can anyone tell me why PoS mining says, "Expected time to earn reward 1 hour(s)" for the last 4 hours? My weight is 142. This almost seems as fruitless as solo mining.

I guess a good baseline would be to state the Dev position on this issue. If Dev says, "It will sort itself out" then our mumbling, grumbling and groaning will merely be self soothing.
Do the Devs see whales as a problem requiring a developmental (hard coding) solution?
Many have responded that a hard code into the wallet or mining source code could be an answer. I get that whales could simply create many wallets/forks/workers/etc. The truth is, simply being unprofitable does not seem sufficient. When you mix pain in the butt with inefficient you will likely see a marked reduction in whales.
Thoughts?

Holy Cow!!!
From m-wallet console->getmininginfo: "netmhashps" : 374.20686821"
374 million!? Yep, the whales are learning.

So now I have (almost) a couple of hundred XMG. I still want to solo mine (PoW), but I also want to stake (PoS). My XMG is still quite immature so it will be a little bit before I can stake, but my question is; Can I still solo mine with all 4 CPU cores and stake as well, or do I need to reserve a CPU core to stake with? How much CPU does staking require?

I want to give a huge shout out to 111Magic for his help converting LTC to XMG.
I was willing to trust this member enough to send him the LTC and then wait until he converted it to BTC and finally XMG then send me the XMG. He did not ask me for any kind of transaction fee or hold back or anything else. 111Magic did not make any monies at all from this, but he did help me to obtain XMG while the exchanges are being particularly finicky.
Kudos to 111Magic!!!

I'd like to see a guide on scripting the wallet daemon. Also would be neat to see a TUI for interacting with the daemon.
It's been a while since I've scripted, but I might be able to do a GUI in python if no one else does it before I go back to sea. I get bored and something like scripting a GUI could keep me occupied.

Not to beat a dead horse, but an Idiots Guide (specifically for solo mining) would be very nice. 111Magic says he will attempt one, but he is only one guy (with an already full plate). This should be a community effort (wiki anyone?). Although I cannot contribute to what you are seeing while minerd is running (reason I want a guide), I am very versed in Linux and could help write the How to Set Up and Install wallet/core/miner/m-miner/etc on Linux. I am sure there are some Windoze gurus out there that could do the same for that platform and solo miners from the start that know this stuff like the back of their hand.
Let's pull together as a community and create an Idiots Guide to Magi Coin. Although the network is already more than maxed out on hashrate, more user friendly means more interest which means more value.

111Magic, I'm glad you said that. I was starting to think I was doing something wrong.

If either of those are social media, then no. Actually, no anyway. I am a merchant mariner gone from home for ~9 months a year. I have no social life.

Nova Exchange sounds good, but there is no link to register. A Google search for their registration page finds https://novaexchange.com/register/, but that returns a 404 Not Found. It's almost like someone REALLY doesn't want me to own Magi.

Thanks for the quick reply 111magic.
I saw that Cryptopia was having issues. His exchange does not carry XMG or I would have just had him convert it and send it to my wallet. What other options do I have? Is Bitrex the only other exchange? I see ridiculous waiting times to register there.
