Hello, I am also a novice, how long do you get from novice member to member?

I want to get to the member level quickly too.

Just keep posting (preferably meaningful / thoughtful posts). Once your activity passes 60, you'll be a Member! You can only gain 14 activity per 2-week period. So if you find your posts are greater than your activity, you may just need to wait until the next 2-week period rolls around.
22  Economy / Exchanges / Re: ID verification compulsory to sell on localbitcoins? on: January 23, 2018, 04:37:22 AM
I guess this is how Bitcoin gradually loses it's anonymity of transactions. It's not through regulating Bitcoin itself, it's through regulating the exchanges and points of contact. Not a problem if you are doing legit business. But even then, it's just another minor invasion of privacy.

New users haven't been able to sign up on Korean exchanges since Jan. 1. Apparently the floodgates will open on the 30th.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/7s9e7a/korea_will_now_allow_new_users_to_sign_up_and/

So Korea unbans bitcoin. Is that why the price is suddently up to almost $11000?

It's almost like the China bans then unbans bitcoin thing.

yeah...real names on South Korea exchanges..not sure what the fuss was about if all they are gonna do is follow USA guidelines on exchanges like coinbase...

was the FUD just for FUN..to make the lawmakers in South Korea look like they were relevant?

If South Korea just ends up taxing exchanges, that's actually a good thing. It legitimizes cryptos. And no government wants to shut down something once they start making money off it. If anything they'll encourage more of it.
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SOUTH KOREA NOT BANNING CRYPTO NOW - but want 24.2 percent tax? on: January 23, 2018, 02:55:41 AM
Quote
The announced tax percentages are in line with the South Korean tax code for all corporations that make a yearly income of over 20 bln won ($18.7 mln).

It's in line with the country's current tax code, so there is no anti-cryptocurrency campaign going on. If the exchanges are operating in South Korea, then they have to follow South Korea's tax laws. Every other company does.

The 24.2 percent tax is taken from the exchanges' profits, not the trader (unless he makes obscene amounts of money to end up in that tax bracket). Part of this is inevitably going to be shouldered by their customers though, so that kind of sucks, but it's also fair. What would be unfair is if they charged higher taxes for crypto-based earnings, and they're not doing that.

If it is indeed on the exchanges' profits, that is only reasonable and normal. Every business should expect to pay some taxes on their profits. And of course those are eventually passed onto their customers. That's just how every business operates. So actually, it's good news. Bringing them into the tax system is implicitly legalizing them. And once the gov starts making money from them, they will be much less likely to shut them down.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ICO will take off on: January 22, 2018, 07:26:08 PM
By 2017, the ICO (calling for capital by issuing tokens) has a leap forward in both quality and quantity. In addition to the increase in ICO, the market also has many quality ICOs, promoting the right purpose of the form of calling this capital. Next year, the ICO's growth rate will be even faster, expected to replace traditional venture capital calling.

Actually, you are a little late on your prediction. ICOs already passed early stage VC funding in August of last year. (Search for CNBC article by Arjun Kharpalon 9 Aug 2017.)

From a forum feature perspective, you are now able to use an avatar and a more complex (unlimited length and color is allowed) signature.

Actually that's not correct. Avatars are not enabled until you are a Full Member (not to be confused with just Member).
27  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin T-Shirt you can buy with bitcoin! on: January 22, 2018, 03:57:25 AM
Hello Everyone, We're Threadcrypto.com
We only opened up our site about a month ago. We print and ship Bitcoin T-Shirts and Hats Smiley
We just started accepting Bitcoin yesterday and We'd love to know what you think  Tongue

Current average transaction costs for any Bitcoin transfer: $22.40

That means you are a bit late for selling less expensive items. Bitcoin is now only economical for transactions around $1000 or more. Essentially, it's only for investing.

Ahh, Damn  Cry

No worries though: just accept traditional fiat. If someone wants your
merch, they'll buy even if they have to use USD or Euros.
28  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 22, 2018, 03:49:29 AM
It looks like they're trying to manipulate bitcoin back to it's old school schedule:  sideways until some random world event news happens like a helicopter going down in Africa that would have absolutely no effect whatsoever on bitcoin because it's just a speculative asset, then they'll try to use that as an excuse to pump and draw momentum traders in to dump on lol.  Unless some whale gets antsy and mega dumps to blow up the charts first because they can't find any "newz" to pump on.

Or maybe Bitcoin is just putting in a nice local bottom. Price seems to have stabilized. It's classic price discovery working just the way it should.

What if it was the sacrificed child of your enemy? What if it gave you secret powers? What if it held the key to world domination? Would you do it? Would you eat another person?

Heard we taste like chicken...

34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: eth going strong on: January 21, 2018, 04:40:45 AM
I guess the whole cryptomarket feels like a fall. The main reasons that I know are prohibitive measures against crypto-exchanges from China and South Korea. And also the Chinese New Year added oil to the fire. But, this all will soon pass

But ETH is definitely showing greater relative strength, compared to the overall crypto market. That bodes well for the next upswing.
35  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 21, 2018, 04:32:57 AM
How exactly do you guys deal with taxes if youve made 1000 trades this year and each trade has dozens of people who traded against your trade and you have complex interactions between altcoins and different exchanges. Do you just kind of estimate how much profit you made based on your account balances? That worked for me in 2013-2016 and I've never been audited but I was once audited for a $1500 Health Savings Account  I didnt report...

Estimates are fine, until you get audited. Then the burden of proof is on you, not the IRS (or whatever tax authority you are under).
36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will crypto replace fiat money? on: January 10, 2018, 07:23:19 PM
Cryptocurrency and fiat currency are two very distinct currencies with different concepts and usage. With this, it can be said that one cannot replace the other. But even when crypto tends to dominate fiat in the future, it can still be said that fiat would still be in existence, to make other transactions.

Agreed... the perfect analogy is Gold vs. Fiat.  Gold used to be the main currency. But over time, Fiat came to dominate Gold. Gold never went away and it's still a haven in times of panic.

Same thing will happen to Fiat.  If Cryptos eventually come to dominate, then Fiats won't disappear, but may take a back seat.
37  Economy / Economics / Re: Effect of Bitcoin on Bank Deposits and the Economy on: January 10, 2018, 07:13:55 PM
You guys are missing the point. Let's say hypothetically, in the future, tens or hundreds of millions of people withdraw their bank deposits and use it to purchase bitcoin, because they believe it to be safer/less prone to inflation. Yes, those dollars that are exchanged for bitcoin are going to go to to other people, but the VALUE of all that money will be less because of the USD/BTC exchange rate. So bank checking/savings deposits are reduced by billions of dollars. What effect is that going to have on the economy?

It's a good question. Let's say a substantial portion of the value of dollars flows into cryptos. The theoretical impact on dollars will be a substantial depletion of remaining value, or inflation. Major inflation would result in central bank tightening to reduce liquidity and put downward pressure on the rate of inflation... see 1980s and Paul Volcker (Fed chair at the time).

BUT, since inflation in this case is not being caused by an overactive economy, the result would then be stagflation... the worst of both worlds. High inflation and low growth. Not pretty.
38  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 10, 2018, 06:36:19 PM
It seems like they want to keep at these prices, I guess I did not know how well they did not progress like this.

Yup, two good tests at $13 - $14k and holding. Buyers and sellers finding balance (finally!).
39  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: When to Buy bitcoin? on: January 10, 2018, 05:33:33 AM
Diversify... BTC is not the only crypto out there. ETH has been moving up sharply even when during this last week as BTC has been moving down. Don't forget LiteCoin, too.  This way, you are invested in crypto broadly and less subject to the swings of a single coin.
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: eth going strong on: January 10, 2018, 03:49:02 AM

I think Ethereum is competing with bitcoin right now. It's total market cap is nearly half of bitcoin market cap and all of us know that 2x rise in Ethereum price is really possible.
I won't be surprised if I see Ethereum at first row in coinmarketcap.

Sure, as soon as Ripple comes back down to earth...
