I don't have mining working yet (and I've just finished a complete fresh reinstall of my system) but here's a collection of links for someone else looking to get started in Linux:

Installing Ubuntu and getting the AMD video drivers installed:
http://highoncoins.com/litecoin-rig/how-to-install-ubuntu-and-optimize-cgminer-for-litecoin-mining-rig/

I preferred to get my own cgminer executable as I wasn't sure of the source of the one presented, so the following pages should help with that.

Download AMD SDKs:
http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/heterogeneous-computing/amd-accelerated-parallel-processing-app-sdk/
http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/graphics-development/display-library-adl-sdk/

Download cgminer source code:
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/3.7/

Configuring Linux to build cgminer:
https://coinaxis.com/index.php/entry/how-to-configure-linux-and-build-cgminer-for-bitcoin-and-litecoin

Installing BOINC on Ubuntu:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC_on_Ubuntu

How to disable IPv6 on Ubuntu (gridcoin may default to IPv6 and I couldn't connect to its port):

I can telnet in via IPv6, so maybe if I can get the standalone cgminer to talk to it I'll have some progress.

This is what I'm seeing running under Lubuntu.
Using today's wine package and the instructions. I've also tried to connect a standalone copy of cgminer to it but not seeing a connection.

So I have the wallet running in Wine, in server mode as far as I can tell. And it's seeing BOINC just fine. But cgminer doesn't see it.
Once that's out of the way I guess it's golden.

Ah ha. I found a wine version a directory deeper than what was listed in the readme file on github.
Now I have the wallet and boinc running. Not sure how to mine yet though.

Ready to test. I've got Lubuntu installed, AMD drivers installed, and cgminer up and running.
But where do I find the wine-qt version of gridcoin? I checked the location in the instructions located on the github repo and the wine.zip was a 404.

Or at least I will when I can get my computer to recognize my USB stick again  Angry

I have Lubuntu on a USB stick here. I'll boot into it and give it a go Smiley

Guys, Grid. What about Linux wallet? People are asking me about it but i don't know what to answer. At same time i know that c-cex using linux wallet, i'm right?
Hi Zulzedd,

The native non mining coin-client is ready (that's what c-cex is using).

We're still looking for people who will volunteer to test mining on the wine-qt version.  Joey Krug started doing it, but his cudaminer setting is not working.  So to clarify, we have not had one volunteer that is even capable of testing the client with a native radeon card booting directly into Linux; so for people like "HereToLearn" who do nothing but bash us and trash talk from their Pie Hole, (without adding anything positive to the conversation, or contributing anything useful other than "guesses" that are generally inaccurate all of the time),  the truth is the client is almost ready for mining, but I am incapable of testing it with my radeon hardware since I am running Ubuntu in a virtual machine.  I invite others with native hardware to help us test mining on Linux and Mac!

Thanks,
Rob Halford

I wonder if the lack of (GPU) pool mining is affecting visibility.

32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][ICOIN][Pool][PPLNS] speedminer.org (1% fee, automated payout) on: February 07, 2014, 01:13:18 AM
I'm seeing some weird behavior. I've been in the pool for several hours now and at first I earned a few coins, but now my hash rate is reporting as zero in the dashboard and I haven't earned any more coins.
Yet the miner is still processing blocks at 760KH/s.

Any ideas?

edit: Seeing an active hash rate again after restarting cgminer. Either way it was detecting accepted blocks. Oh well Cheesy

Just reported a normal result here. Is it consistent for you?

How did you send coins to the address? Is it one that you've traded with previously?

The chances of you sending coins to a valid address via typo are millions to one.

this is important: i've send some of my coins to a wrong address: tell me there is a way to recover it!!  Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

Unfortunately, there's only one way that could happen: Track down the owner of the address (assuming it's a valid and owned address), beg them nicely to return your coins, and hope that they are honest enough to do it. Good luck!  Cry

Sad

how can i track down the owner of the address?

It's the nature of digital currency, to prevent chargebacks. Once currency has left, it's gone for good. Did you send the coins to someone in your address book or mistype an address?

If you sent it to the wrong person, would they give it back?

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!  Cry

thanks anyways for the reply..

How old is this CCEX exchange anyway? They only started tweeting 5 days ago.
I wouldn't get too pumped about being on an exchange that's younger than the coin.
38  Other / Off-topic / Re: moving out with just $4000 on: January 24, 2014, 04:38:04 AM
Where? That wouldn't pay for a month in some places, but would leave you some wiggle rooms in others.

So say all I have is $4000.  Would it be suffice to survive on for 3 months?  1st and last month's rent plus 1 month.

Anyone want to start a Reddit presence for Gridcoins? Cheesy

Friend is stuck on a fork, and I suggested using a backup wallet and rebuilding the block chain.
Anything else he needs to do?
