Um, that's a silly question. Why would they guide you to other competing products??
22  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why almost everybody suggest to hold? on: March 05, 2018, 01:30:53 AM
Because holding is the most simple and not required efforts strategy on the market. Experience has shown that holding is working in many cases, it is good especially for newbies.

Agreed. The skills required to trade in and out of any asset effectively take years to hone. First you have to develop your trading system. (Most ones that you buy are BS and don't work... for example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2848725.0.)

Then you have to master your own trading psychology. Most of the time that will work against you. You'll end up selling at the worst possible time: when the price is lowest and you are at "max pain".

Hodling is a way to help new traders mitigate those pitfalls.

Happy Monday Morning from Bali.
Buy orders are stacking up again on stamp. 78 million and counting.  I'm feeling a 12K shot soon.

Coming out of thinner weekend trade so volume should support the recent trend. Looking for a new higher-high over local peak reached Feb 20.

Trying to do tax planning. I have thousands of trades across a dozen exchanges in different countries in all sorts of alts.  I am really struggling to figure it out so good fucking luck to the tax authority.  It would take a CPA 3 months.   I’m just going to have to make a best efforts estimate.  Half the exchanges don’t even export trade records in .csv.  Plus miner fees and dust lost in web wallets etc.  Total mess.

Just a general question: why would someone make thousands of trades per year?
IMHO, it is self defeating in eventuality.
Personally, when I over trade, it a signal that I am about to lose a lot of money (for me).
In happened in 2000-2001 just before I had losses in 2002.
One year i had about a thou trades. It took me about three weeks to figure it all out on Turbotax.
Some trades looked really stupid when I looked at the totality of it all.
After that-no more of that nonsense.

Over a thousand trades per year means dozens of trades a week. At that frequency, it's likely you are getting thrashed by small fluctuations. But the real money to be made is putting on positions into substantial opportunities: major trend changes, double bottoms, head-and-shoulders, capitulation, etc. Then hodling for a long swing (long or short). And that supports a more detached trading psychology.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees are killing/have killed Bitcoin.... it is sad but true. on: February 23, 2018, 05:52:58 PM
All cryptos evolve and are under constant development, to think this is going to be a long term issue is a bit pessimistic
The lightning network will solve these issues, they could also increase the block size but the big issue is we need miners, larger block size = less reward for miners.

In sayinig that, my view is the lightning network will probably hurt miners more than a larger block size, we will see what comes I guess.

Scalability and fee spikes are a substantial problem. Even more problematic is the battle of solutions and the ability of a small minority to force forks instead of having a unified update. It may be the 'fair' way to handle things in a decentralized system, but it ultimately weakens BTC.
26  Other / Archival / Re: Why to Invest in ICO? on: February 23, 2018, 05:38:52 PM
people want to join ICO and invest in it cause they want to gain some profit, even if it risky.
so as long there is people who want to gain profit from ICO then there will be always new ICO's project.
there are many ICO who succesfully sky rocketed in their token price nowadays and that's what make many people keen to join ICO.

Hopefully at some level, you also actually believe in the project. Otherwise, there's simply too many options to choose from. Find an idea that resonates with you and a team that is strong.

From that time I have earned a lot more then I did with bitcoin mainly with XRP, ETH and lately also EOS. For me, bitcoin is for bartenders and cab drivers who react on technical developments with a several year delay.

What are the technical developments of XRP, ETH, and EOS that surpass Bitcoin? It would be nice to know now, rather than a year from now.

XRP is good for making fast and cheap transactions. Scales better than bitcoin. Far from decentralized, but it gets the job done if you are in a hurry.

Paypal is good for making fast and cheap transactions. Scales better than bitcoin. Far from decentralized, but it gets the job done if you are in a hurry.

XRP is a joke.

Good one, cofefeGandalf.  Grin  And yes, XRP was designed for transaction clearing between big banks. So it's perfect for "fast and cheap transactions"... if you are a mega multi-national corporation.

Truth is, the only reason it is even on anyone's radar is because the price had a brief spike up.

Just followed the recommendation to sell ETC, got my profit, thanks!

Interesting that many of the comments have been like this one: short, positive, and not very specific. Just sayin'
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH VS BTC which one will be worth to invest? on: February 23, 2018, 05:00:13 PM
Is suitable to continue to invest in bitcoin? It's future is not clear for us...
What about the ETH? what is the opinion for it?
http://blog.epay.com/c/ethereum_vs_bitcoin_which_one_will_be_worth_to_invest
At this point in time there is not a need to run any kind of detailed analysis about in which of those two coins to invest, bitcoin has proven since the beginning that is going to resist almost anything that people can throw at it and ethereum was able to become the second coin in terms of market cap thanks to its huge flexibility and the great number of projects running above it, you cannot go wrong by investing in one of them and if it is possible invest in both of them.

Agreed that splitting your capital into both is best. They are already rather different from each other. BTC is the "gold standard" of value storage and transfer in the decentralized world. ETH is Turing Complete and enables Smart Contracts. (And after Casper, ETH will be even more different with Proof of Stake.) If you want to be invested in crypto, then split your fiat into 2 chunks and buy both.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook against bitcoin? on: February 23, 2018, 04:50:17 PM
I don’t think Facebook is against bitcoin. There are too many scam advertisements about crypto, Facebook is just trying to protect the Facebook users.

Sure, that is there intention. But how exactly are they going to distinguish 'scam' ICOs from legitimate ones?
31  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 23, 2018, 04:42:03 PM
We goin down again?
Comon bulls. Don’t drop the ball.

It actually strengthens the market to have some retracements. If you are bullish BTC, these little dips should actually make you happy.
32  Economy / Services / Re: !!!proven trading signals - not pump on: February 19, 2018, 03:33:59 AM
The questions to ask yourself before you buy a "proven trading signals" system. If it works so well:

  • Why aren't they just keeping it to themselves and getting rich off of it?
  • Why don't they open a hedge fund?
  • Why would they even talk to someone who didn't have at least $10MM?

Just sayin'
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I have 250 ETH, Hold or SELL? on: February 19, 2018, 03:24:52 AM
all crypto-currencies require patience and endurance
I would hold it, that concerned not only ETH.

It's also a pretty poor time to sell, in terms of where the market price is currently at.  If you don't need the cash / fiat, then hold for better prices.
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is it risky to turn all my money to bitcoins? on: February 19, 2018, 03:06:35 AM
I leave some of my money in the bank even though it will not grow you can have your immediately in case of emergencies thats why I didn't turn all of my money into btc. And also due to the fact that it is volatile and we cannot control the market thats why I Iose some of my earnings last year but still I will hold because it is starting to go green.

Yes, one of the under-appreciated benefits to keeping some money is cash is that it stabilizes your investing psychology. If you have some cash, you are less likely to panic on a drop in BTC price (and end up selling out at the worst possible time).
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin die, no more cryptos can alive. on: February 19, 2018, 02:47:05 AM
Bitcoin certainly has the greatest name recognition. But there's nothing unique about it, beyond that it was first. So many alt coins exist that are essentially Bitcoin-like, and many alts exist that have improved on the blockchain model. And many alts exist that aren't stores-of-value at all. So if Bitcoin were to die, others would replace it. Now if *blockchain* were to die, then that's a totally different situation.
36  Economy / Economics / Re: When will the market turn and start growing again? on: February 19, 2018, 02:14:30 AM
As soon as everyone starts shouting about the lowly in one voice and the collapse of the exchanges, then the market will unfold. This will say that those who used to shop earlier started selling the crypt. At this time, large players will buy crypto currency from nervous people, and when bought up, news agencies and TV will begin to generate a positive background for crypto-instruments. A new rally will begin without those who left the concert.

If you think back, we've all actually "seen this movie before". After the Mt Gox hack, Bitcoin dropped by much more than it did this time (on a percentage basis). Everyone said it was done for and forgot about it. Then it went to new highs. This time will be no different.
37  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 19, 2018, 02:03:05 AM
The Merit system doesn't much affect newer posters. But it does put the kibosh on senior folks, especially those that were just about to rank up. Doesn't really seem fair for them: someone being a few posts away from Senior Member now has to go hunting for 150 Merit points. But someone else who just happens to have crossed that threshold is now grandfathered in.
38  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 19, 2018, 01:46:17 AM
Looks like consolidation time before the next move. 1 more bounce, 2..3?  I'm not convinced we're out of the woods until good volume on 12k is broken.  Perhaps a week or 2 away but this fickle wench surprises me near daily. Sentiment here is 10-15k till summer.

Price needs to see another test of recent lows, and a successful hold there.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Difference between Bitcoin and real money? on: February 19, 2018, 01:21:05 AM
I've discovered Bitcoin few days ago, but I am skeptical about few things, why would I invest money in Bitcoins at the end of the day,why would I convert money into Bitcoins?

If I want to buy stocks or invest money I can easily invest with real $. Why would I convert my $ to bitcoins?
If I want to gamble , I can simply gamble on websites that require $ as currency, why would I convert it to bitcoins?
What's the difference between Bitcoins and dolars? What does bitcoin bring to the table that real $ don't, less taxes, more income?

Bitcoin  is a electronic currency as cashless no hassle for everything

But Bitcoin's transaction fees last month spiked up to $30+.  How can that possibly be useful as an electronic currency??
40  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is trading Bitcoin and other alts still profitable? on: February 19, 2018, 01:01:22 AM
I was a trader awhile back, I want to say about a year ago now and wanted to know what the current state of the market is for the traders that are currently trading to this day? I know a lot of the current exchanges that I used for trading, such as Poloniex, are still around but aren't really being used much as before.

I wasn't able to profit much but would like to hear how people are doing these days. Thanks a ton!
we all know, that lately the price of all coins continues to decline and will result in losses if we sell coins owned. After I did some research from my friends and some people in this forum, all they did was keep all the coins they had until they were worth the sale, I'm sure the longer the price of all the coins would have a good price, and now it's also seen that bitcoin and altcoin prices are increasing every day, though not at such an expensive price, but at least there are always price fixes that happen every day.

You can make money on declines in Bitcoin, too.  Bitcoin futures on the CME and CBOE allow you to go 'short' and make money if the price goes down. (And of course, you'll also lose money if BTC goes up.)
