21  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5830s selling out - no more at Newegg on: June 06, 2011, 06:42:12 PM
this all kind of makes me giggle.  I know when bionic put out gpu stuff for crunching numbers there was a slight increase in card sales.... But I can't imagine there has ever been a increase in sales like this.   its completely insane how many vid cards have been purchased just because of bitcoins in the past few weeks...  should of got stock in these manufacturers
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could JS Bitcoin Mining Replace Google's Adsense? on: June 06, 2011, 06:25:08 PM
I currently do JS mining... but  I do viral CPA marketing using content blockers.. the user is on my money page for 30 seconds to a minute usually.  Most my money is made from the offers they complete, so the JS miner is just for that extra kick.  I'm averaging over 300users online every minute.  To lazy to do the math but it does create shares and does work with big numbers as a extra source of income.

I would never put it on a "legit" site though.

Anyone else notice that huge jump in the network?

http://bitcoinwatch.com/

After every difficulty change this happens.  It is the way difficulty is computed against a sliding window.  Difficulty figures will be correct in 24 hours or so.

aah ok.. i haven't paid attention to the network hashrate until recently.  I had looked at a while ago and it was in the 60's came back and refreshed was almost 90... was a surprise to me.

27  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: House in Tijuana, Mexico on: June 06, 2011, 04:51:17 AM
I have a friend who is selling his house in TJ and is willing to accept bitcoins. The person has to be a Mexican citizen due to the location. It is a 4 bedroom townhouse with a view of the ocean. More details are available upon request. He says the house has approx $100K USD value.

I thought the Mexican government changed that last year or so?  I have rental in Acapulco, I was given the option to buy it out right as a US citizen, just would have to pay the regular "hacienda" tax if I owned it.  Maybe it was just Guerrero.  But I would think Baja would have same.  $100K is like $1 million+ pesos.  I guess being so close to the US is why its so expensive.

It makes me cringe everytime someone says Wireless Mesh networks will be the future of the Internet. The fact is, Wireless Mesh networks don't scale well, especially over long distances (coast to coast).
It takes time to transmit a packet from node to node. The latency involved in transmitting a packet long distances over a mesh network would make todays internet unusable. There's a reason the Internet has backbone providers, their job is to send a packet over long distances with as few "hops" as possible.

A wireless mesh internet would be like going back to using the telegraph.

Yeah I get what you mean there.  Thats why I made mention of future technology.  Subspace communications?  Grin Who knows.

But honestly as a personal pref for myself.  If it had even ISDN speeds I would be happy with that.  I don't need all the fancy flash loaded websites and all that.

My response is always:  bitcoin is not your forum to push your ideology.

Its not anybodies forum, isn't that the point.

If you like bitcoin and want to see it used worldwide, freeing people from their central banks, then we need to do what we can to push back when illegality is associated with bitcoin.

Regardless of how fluffy bunny cute you want it to be, with a system designed as bitcoin has been, you can push all you want but it won't stop that type of behavior.

30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open Source Internet... Soon?! on: June 06, 2011, 03:19:13 AM
There are many implementations of this already, such as FreeNet, Tor, etc.

You missed the point, I think. None of those replace the physical link layer.

Look into wireless mesh networking.

Yeah thats basically what I'm talking about.  It starts out with a bunch of people in 1 city doing it.  Then it progresses to surrounding areas.  It would be interesting to see a bunch of enthusiasts create a coast to coast network like that.

Let them eat cake.

Agreed.  I feel its a much safer version of drug dealing.  Besides, people should have the freedom to put what they want in their bodies in the first place.  If they want to OD on heroin... so be it.

I mean really, what can they do about it?  Say they take down Silk Road somehow, how long before a new one pops up?  I bet there is already a few new ones online because of the heavy press.

Well the problem with those are they all still require a ISP.  I'm talking about an entire new network aside from the main internet.
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Open Source Internet... Soon?! on: June 06, 2011, 03:00:25 AM
With recent attention of bitcoin, i find myself remember conversations from years past.  Being a ham radio operator many of my friends in that realm have dabbled in encrypted higher baud rate packet radio over VHF.  Because of this it makes me think with newer technologies coming every year, how long will it be before we have a Global Open Source Internet or Decentralized Internet as it may be?

I use puddinpop CPU miner on computers at work.

http://forum.bitcoin.org/?topic=2444.0 <-- Puddinpop

They are all windows 7 machines so I also use power menu to minimize the prompt to the tray.

http://www.abstractpath.com/powermenu/

I put the miner files in a folder in C: called miners then created a shortcut for the .exe and changed the target info so all I have to do is double click the shortcut on the desktop to start up the miner.  I also start it with threads set to half of whats available in the cores so it doesn't run 100% all the time.

Target property in the shortcut.

Code:
C:\miners\rpcminer-cpu.exe -url=http://mining.bitcoin.cz:8332 -user=WORKERNAME -password=PASSWORD -threads=2

They only pull in about 500Khash/s each but its all free all day and night running on 20 machines.
