21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin Wallet (GUI) on: April 09, 2015, 07:43:52 PM
what does "address" in the wallet mean? does the wallet generate new addresses??? Is it my new bytecoin address?? Is it the one i should use?Huh

Yes, when the first opening the wallet generates a new address for the user

Quote
Once you open Bytecoin Wallet, it will automatically create your first Bytecoin address and start synchronizing with the network.

If you don't need that, just open the wallet that you used before. You've gotta go File - Open wallet, then find it and hit the button and you're done.

Btw if you're gonna come around and and use the automatically generated address, then you better encrypt it: go Settings - Encrypt wallet and create a password (complex one!).

I think that guides are required in any case. Will it be available on bytecoiner.org?
The wallet is nice, the interface is intuitive. But for a user new to Bitcoin and CryptoNote coins it may be difficult to figure out what's going on.

A video may be even a better idea.

That's a good idea, thank you! The problem is that among those who support Bytecoin community site there is no one who could make such guides.

If you have any ideas or a vision on how this should look like then feel free to help. I would be glad if you PM me or send email.

After some time I have updated and started Bytecoin Wallet and i mistyped my password... after this the wallet file and keys file is changed to ".back" now when i try to open again with my wallet name it says its missing.

When i try to use my wallet name.back it says check password but password is now correct.

When i try to remove the ".back" from wallet file and keys i get "future already retrieved"

Here is the log...

Any help around this?

The devs are already busy with resolving your issue. I'll let you know as soon as it's done!
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012 on: April 09, 2015, 12:45:16 PM
Bytecoin devs, as I understand you hold ~80% of the float, have you considered selling those coins in bulk OTC as a means to get better distribution, as a sort of 2nd round ICO?

Because now the situation is ludicrous, if you want to invest 4 BTC you are going to make the price go up 100% on a $4MM marketcap coin.

I think that there is a certain misunderstanding. Bytecoin emission is distributed in the community.

Now it's the best time to invest in Bytecoin inasmuch as you can acquire it at a low price, while according to the latest trends, such as the latest release and roadmap 2015, Bytecoin price is about to take off.

Hi, people from Bytecoin team. First of all, thank you for your work and for your attempt to explain all hardcore things to average users.
But I think more specified documentation on new Bytecoin features (at least, INode and IWallet) is needed. Developers should be provided with detailed explanation, pics and so on. Would you be so kind to tell me where I can get it? Is there something like docs section at Bytecoin website?

Hello! Thanks for your positive feedback on our work. You can find the full technical documentation with all schemes, pics and tables on Bytecoin wiki.

Here are the links on the feature description we added recently

INode on Bytecoin wiki
IWallet on Bytecoin wiki
ITransaction on Bytecoin wiki

Bytecoin team made a lot of hard developers work. But... where's long-awaited Bytecoin GUI?  Huh

Thanks! Bytecoin GUI-wallet will be released by the end of this week.

Interested.

Keep up the good work.

Great news!!! Let's finally get Bytecoin to the moon! I mean to Mars  Grin

We try our best to meet all your demands! Stay tuned.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin: Under the Hood on: April 06, 2015, 06:56:00 PM
Do I get it right that every next release will be devided into two different parts?  (I refer to the roadmap image in OP). So at first, things on the left side will be published and then things on the right side?

No, we made it for more convenient perception of roadmap. Only this update will be divided into 2 parts.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin: Under the Hood on: April 06, 2015, 06:21:51 PM
Oh, here's the long-awaited update! Thank you guys, you put so much effort into this and develop really great stuff. I suppose you're the most competent among all cryptonote currencies developers, I missed it. You even made everything on time! I'm gonna go buy lots of BCN and then try to read a bit what kind of hardocre technological stuff is released this time by Bytecoin team  Cool

Thank you! Bytecoin team does our best for you.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin: Under the Hood on: April 06, 2015, 05:32:58 PM
OK, so Bytecoin developers have made something good again.  But where can I download Bytecoin GUI? I haven't found any links niether in the main thread, nor on the official website.  Community doesn't  help too.

Bytecoin GUI-wallet will be published together with the next release by the end of this week.

Great news.

Very interesting Bytecoin update. Roadmap is more than impressive, I hope you will be able to develop all of this. When the first update will be published?

Thanks for your feedback! The next Bytecoin release will be available in early April.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin website and roadmap release (including CryptoNote protocol updates) on: March 31, 2015, 04:40:38 PM
Actually, it would be pretty good to make a special blog for bytecoin where developers will comment on what is happening.

You can use the IRC Freenode channel #bytecoin-dev and the technical discussion thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=718834. Here you can ask any questions about Bytecoin development. And you can write to Bytecoin support.
Developer's blog coming soon.

Some days ago, a speech by Nicolas van Saberhagen was announced by the "Cryptonote Foundation" :

You can see it announced at the official web page of the "International Workshop P2P Financial Systems" here : https://ecurex.com/p2pfisy/assets/files/P2PFISY2015_Program.pdf

The speech was not by Saberhagen (as it was announced by the Cryptonote foundation, it seems a pseudonymous) but by Tomaso Aste ( see http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/staff/tomaso_aste/ ), does anybody has information about the contents of the speech or the link between the speecher and Cryptonote ?

If I understand the meaning of the word correctly the opponents are called discussants in the program.

At last! Is that the GUI preview on the main page? It looks cute!

But I cannot find the download link on the new awesome website Cheesy

The Bytecoin GUI wallet is unavailable for download now, it will be released together with version 1.0.3 at the beginning of April, as noted in the description.
I guess everyone's waiting for quite a while already. It's a good thing that Bytecoin developers uncovered the annual plan, there are some major updates awaiting us ahead.
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012 on: March 23, 2015, 09:41:33 AM
Hello,

I've never seen this happen before, but when I link to bytecoin.org lately, it shows the following:

"This Connection is Untrusted"

(etc)

bytecoin.org uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate expired on 03/04/2015 03:59 PM. The current time is 03/21/2015 12:12 PM. (Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)

OK bytecoin folk... get your certificate back up because I feel uncomfortable about directing traffic to your site (which I have been doing) for people to download and get info from being that your cert is expired.  This is very basic stuff for cryptocurrency related sites esp. for those where people pass through to get their downloads.

Thank you for the report.

We are fixing it right now.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012 on: March 17, 2015, 03:40:09 PM
nitassin you should trying to install boost 1.4 and berkeley 4.8 db, it should work

I am using Ubuntu 15.4 Vivid Velvet with CMake 3.4, GCC 4.9 & Boost 1.57

Boost 1.4* Which Sub Version? What's the Problem? But we need Boost 1.53 Onwards.....

Try to build Bytecoin using dependencies that are specified in README file on GitHub: GCC 4.7.3, CMake 2.8.6, and Boost 1.53
