21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: February 22, 2018, 09:22:42 PM

1. Decentralized Storage - This is already being developed/done by IPFS, SIA, STORJ, Bittorrent, Gnutella, USENET, etc.  There is no need or demand for yet more vaporware in this space.

2. SAFE web sites/browser - This is already being developed/done by TOR, I2P, Freenet, Share, etc.  There is no need or demand for yet more vaporware in this space.

Maidsafe isn't even a real shitcoin.  It's just a temporary placeholder token that is supposedly going to be traded for actual Maid shitcoins at some point far off in the distant future.

Maidsafe isn't making any substantial progress or technological innovations; it's just trying and failing to rehash previous technologies in an unnecessarily complex and bloated morass of scope-creep for the sake of keeping Team Maidsafe gainfully employed and looking busy.

This is where you are completely off and clearly don't understand wat The SAFE Network will bring.

"IPFS, SIA, STORJ, Bittorrent, Gnutella, USENET, etc." Non of these networks have a decentralized DNS to begin with. SAFE already has. So join Alpha 2 and register: safe://icebreaker
It will be all yours, protected by a private key. Imagine what this will bring to organisations like Wikileaks for example. That organisation still uses servers and domain name providers etc.

SAFE will also be 100% autonomous. Non of the projects you name are. Maybe with an exception for Freenet. But Freenet is slow and there's no data integrity. Uploaded a website?? Hopefully someone opened it otherwise it's gone when it's out of cache. Same for torrent files etc.

"2. SAFE web sites/browser - This is already being developed/done by TOR, I2P, Freenet, Share, etc." Again you're off. TOR will connect you to the clearnet over some proxies. SAFE browser won't. It won't connect you to the clearnet. That's to keep you SAFE. It will only load from safe://websites on the SAFE Network. I2P uses servers by the way. They are hidden behind proxies but still they are servers which could go down.

So overall: what you miss is the fact that SAFE will be 100% autonomous. And has it's own browser, DNS, Login system and NO SERVERS. And it will come with 100% data integrity. Not touched your file for 4 years?? It will be there.

10 years still in alpha test, people lose faith on your project, please dump it to 1000 sat.

Most of the time was not programming or building the project but R&D and looking for funding. It was only after their crowdfund in 2014 that they could form a real team to build this thing. And only in 2015 that they decided to move from over 500K lines of code in C++ to the Rust programming language using a new architecture.

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/maidsafecoin/

You say people lost faith in the project well.... they sold their MAID-tokens in 2014 for around 0.9 cent (usd) per maid. Currently they're around 70 cent which is 77 times more. They have a marketcap of 320 million usd right now so I guess it's fair to say that there's enough faith in the project. MaidSafe is opening an office today in India. They already have around 20 people working for them from all over the globe. lot of great things to come but it takes time. The development of Windows took over 6 years with way more programmers and funding. MaidSafe will surprise a lot of people when they reach beta. If you think that's taking too long now..... Feel free to follow one of the hundreds of blockchain projects out there.

I heard that EOS will distribute new ICO tokens built on the EOS network to tokenholders? true?

Everipedia (sort of Wikipedia to work on EOS platform) will airdrop their IQ-tokens to the holders of EOS-tokens. It's the first airdrop for EOS-token holders. No EOS-tokens are airdropped but IQ tokens-will.

https://twitter.com/EOS_io/status/952117859215319040

This will probably happen before EOS is live. And once EOS is live we'll probably see a load more of airdrops as "airdroppers" don't have to pay all these transaction costs like on Ethereum. They can just stake some EOS in the system and are allowed x-number of free transactions per day.

Seems that MAID never had any idea how to deliver on the promises so they have decided to delay until other projects figure out how to solve their problems. When that happens MAID will just copy-paste the solutions and avoid lawsuits that way.

MAID promised blockchainless tokens long time ago yet for some reason Byteball delivered first. It's as if MAID even didn't try. This substratum thing seems cool, I'd rather buy into it than an old and proven vapurware project.
they never delivered and i it surprising that they managed to stay up in price all this time.

Alpha 2 is live and well with support for self_encryption and a decentralized DNS. They have their own browser, email app, and way more stuff. It's not in beta though, but they have delivered quite some stuff already. No other project allows you to log in to a decentralized network but MaidSafe provides exactly that. You can also use Decorum to create a coin (without blockchain) and issue 100 million Murgut-tokens and send others 0.0000000034 of them.

https://safenetforum.org/t/project-decorum-wallet-release/18254

So don't fall for all the troll-fud in this topic. MaidSafe is currently opening an office in India where even more devs will work for the company. But creating a fully antonymous network where miners nor any other have to set any prices and limits is quite a thing to do. It's like creating a BitTorrent version without any trackers where all chunks are encrypted and no one knows who downloaded what. And by the way: next to this BitTorrent function they also support accounts and the hosting and browsing of websites. No one has ever done something before with a decentralized P2P-network. All other projects give away your IP-adres and even identity.

EOS news summary (jan. 13th)
There was quite some EOS excitement over the last few days about “special announcements” coming from the Korea meetup. So what was the news?

EOS Venture Capital
Block. One announced they now have over 1.1 billion dollars in funding. That’s a combination from the crowdfund and big VCs investing in Block.One. This was expected but now it’s official.

When will EOS be finally fully functional? An extimate?

On June 1. That's in about 5 months.

All the EOS videos you'll ever need in 1 topic:

From the first public EOS presentation by Dan Larimer to programming your first contract for EOS.

As I understand it the EOS tokens are currently on the ether platform but will be transferred to the EOS platform next year when complete. Is that process automatic?

There's a testwallet here. I see a field to import my ethereum private key but I won't at this moment  Grin. But that's probably how simple it will be.

EOS test-wallet (watch out with importing keys and stuff, could be very unstable and insecure!)

https://t1wallet.eos.io/

It links to the official EOS website though, so I guess they hope people do some testing.

So I currently have MaidSafeCoins, when MaidSafe finally goes public, will I be able to trade my MaidSafeCoins for SafeCoins?

Yes, you'll be able to switch them on a 1-on-1 basis.

Could EOS serve as a decentralized DNS?

There where quite some news articles about the Domain Name System over the last few months. And if one thing has become clear it is the fact that DNS in the hands of the ICANN organization is as old fashioned as the fax machine.

The DNS is the bridge between a website’s IP-address and their domain name. Your browser doesn’t know how to find https://eos.io unless it can link that name to a certain IP-address to load in the browser. So what’s the problem? In short: centralization. The moment one central authority controls something important as our domain names the door to abuse of that power is open. Especially when governments get involved. The news below is just one example of censorship.

Cаn аnybоdy dеscribе whаt will bе thе purpоsе оf MаID tоkеn in thе SаFе nеtwоrk? Will I bе аblе tо еаrn MаID cоins just by prоviding my cоmputing pоwеr? If yеs, whаt will bе thе rаtе?

Downloading anything from SAFE will be free. You don't even need an account. So think of it as people sharing torrents... It's just a link and instead you might see something like:

safe://adomain/tutorials/my_crypto_tutorial.mp4

So no account needed, no Safecoin needed. The Farmers though make some money, because when you request that video from a website they deliver chunks of data from their Vaults. And they might get 0.0000012 Safecoin from the network.

If you want an account or a domain you need some Safecoin fro yourself. PUTting data to the network cost you some Safecoin. You need to "burn" some coins so to speak.

- So uploading cost you some Safecoin
- Downloading is free
- Domains cost some money
- Make Safecoin by running a Vault

Hope that helps!
