21  Other / Archival / Re: ANACS Casascius Grade Populations on: January 04, 2016, 06:33:56 PM
So looks like ANACS recently updated their certification verification tool to include populations: http://www.anacs.com/Populations/CertVerification.aspx

Checked the silver 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0:

TypeDateMint   Variety6061626364656667686970Total Graded
PATTERNS2013CASASCIUS 0.1 BITCOIN0000711717193511107
PATTERNS2013CASASCIUS 0.5 BITCOIN00032646384016201190
PATTERNS2013CASASCIUS 1 BITCOIN0041433595158436212336

System doesn't appear to distinguish between the all-silver and gilt silver singles.. and I have no idea if these distinguish between brass and silver for given years. But I am guessing someone here is hoarding a pile of MS70 singles! Ahem, Blazed and MN...

If anyone wants to look up nickels, tens, and brass coin populations... just need a cert number to start with. We could try to build a table of all the Cas (+other) coin grade populations.

Happy friggin' new year!

Keep in mind that unless ANACS tracks and records each unique coin address, POP reports may not be accurate due to people cracking original cases and resubmitting for potentially better grades.  There was a thought that ANACS was giving higher grades recently, so some folks resubmitted coins for reconsideration.  Unless ANACS tracked the addy, gave the same grade and didn't include the regrade in its POP report...then there may be many duplicates in the POP reports.  Wouldn't be surprised to eventually see the number of graded coins eclipse Mike's total overall output production numbers, especially for the lower run coins like 2013 silvers.

22  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2013 Silver Casascius Coins With PGP Chains on: December 21, 2015, 07:58:22 PM
Has anyone actually found a fake Casascius?

If Bitcoin were to ever reach 2-3k in value you better believe China will starting making them.

Just a thought...I would offer that any Casascius coin graded by ANACS before the first documented counterfeits turn up, could be considered just as authentic as any chain-of-custody coin.  This approach, along with an extensive global network of authentication processes and experts, is the method in which the traditional sports card collecting industry handles counterfeiting.  The challenges associated with counterfeiting go back ages and spans countless industries...and many of those same authentication and verification procedures currently used and trusted with varying degrees of success, can be implemented for Casascius and other digital currency collectibles as well.  I'm guessing that the small percentage of chain-of-custody coins in existence won't be the only ones verifiable as authentic regardless of future BTC value or volume of fakes flooding the market.

That said, at this early stage of Casascius collecting, having PGP-signed COC is certainly a nice bonus.

0.01...c'mon man!  So that's how we're rollin' now...?

Sell me your MS67 and these are all yours... Wink

No way man...these could be MS69's! Smart move is bid these up really really high  Wink

No bias there!  Grin  Which brings up a good point...you've had so many graded Blazed...curious why you held these two back from ANACS...?

Looks like Dazed sold his MS67 regardless...these silvers have been moving lately.

27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Bitcoin XT (is there any difference to the average person) on: August 18, 2015, 09:23:43 PM
It is very difficult to get a straight answer in this forum with such a question.  You are likely to get some very passionate (and scary) sounding answers from individuals that are sure that they know exactly what the future will bring.  If you want to discuss this in a more relaxed and unbiased setting, feel free to send me a PM.

I might take you up on that. I've got a number of questions that have been bugging me for a while. I haven't wanted to ask them for fear of looking like an idiot on the open forum. I may take time to send you (as a trusted, knowledgable, old school forum member) a PM tomorrow if that's ok.

DannyHamilton is awesome.  He was one of the first people that made me feel welcome here--actually walked me through how to use a wallet!  Incredibly knowledgeable and patient with those truly interested in learning about Bitcoin.  I'll likely be reaching out to him again soon as well.  Thank you for continuing to be a trusted resource for our community DannyHamilton!
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Bitcoin XT (is there any difference to the average person) on: August 18, 2015, 08:21:07 PM
I see two separate issues being addressed here.  One is the validity of each BTC.  The other is the value of each BTC.

I'm guessing there are quite a few threads addressing this already, so please do post links to answers.  Most of the discussion I've seen is technical, political and/or philosophical...rather than real world practical and logistical execution discussion for the average user.  Also, please correct and/or elaborate as I'm sure I've missed details as we piece this together...but the way I understand it...

Any Bitcoin Core created BTC pre-fork would continue to be valid on Bitcoin XT.  All BTC, be it from Core or XT would be valid on both chains, for as long as Core could maintain the capacity to handle the additional volume created by XT's increased blocksize.  But new BTC created once Core has reached it's max capacity would then only be identified and valid on XT.   At that point, sending a newly mined BTC to the older chain would simply no longer be recognized?  But sending a pre-fork BTC to the XT chain would always be valid and recognized.

The value question is completely separate.  The value of any BTC regardless of what chain its on can rise and fall based on myriad factors, not the least of which is the potential loss of trust in the network due to these and/or other changes.  One BTC from either chain would be worth one BTC--the question is simply which chain would recognize it based on it's date of creation.  The exchange rate value of any BTC will be determined by market forces, rather than technical ones.
29  Other / Meta / What do you think about adding a Physical Cryptocurrency section to the forum? on: August 17, 2015, 02:24:14 PM
So I sent the PM below to theymos about a week ago, inquiring about the possibility of adding a Physical Cryptocurrency section to the forum.  Haven't heard back yet, but in the interim, thought I'd get a pulse from the community regarding just how much interest there might be for adding a place on Bitcointalk dedicated to physical crypto.

Take the poll and post your thoughts here either way...to help give a better sense of if this is something that might be wanted and/or needed...

Hello theymos--let me thank you in advance for reading and considering this perspective...

I was wondering if you, the staff and mods had given any thought to adding a section on the forum for physical Bitcoin like Casascius coins and the thousands of other physical iterations in existence for BTC and alts alike.  And if so, what the plan might be?  Physical Crypto are no longer just fancy wallets.  The sector is becoming quite significant and growing exponentially, with the boom in physical bitcoin grading through companies like ANACS, the oldest coin grading firm in the US.   In a groundbreaking move, the traditional ANACS coin grading institution even added a Physical Cryptocurrency category to their new order form a few weeks back, due to overwhelming demand.

Beyond the storage and economic value, the collector base for these physical versions of digital currency is also growing in-kind, as is its numismatic value.  There is even "A Collectors Guide to Physical Crypto Coins" being created.

As digital currency continues to evolve out of its infancy and matures into a powerful global economic force...the various applications and manifestations it takes on should be recognized.  I'm guessing that the creation of a Physical Cryptocurrency section on Bitcointalk would be cheered and extremely popular...right now these many folks are having their discussions on the topic across various sections of the forum in a rather disorganized and haphazard manner.  Would be great to bring this sub-community together in earnest.

Thank you again and appreciate any feedback and perspective you may be able to provide.

I'll offer 2BTC and I don't care about the chain of custody.

Solid...

True...I recall these selling graded for ~1.25-1.5.  Silver market has picked up...

32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I can smell the fear on: July 28, 2015, 06:43:57 PM
Banks going on about how Bitcoin is useless but the blockchain is great..

Paypal advertising sending money across boarders claming speed and security..

Can you smell it in the air?

No question about it.  When Fortune and MIT start reporting and discussing the same...then the idea has certainly gone mainstream.  And this is an old article...

Do you have a couple pictures of this beauty?

I'll upload some if I can find a decent camera.

Series, chain of custody and any other details you can provide would be great as well.

How do I find info about the series? It's from year 2013, that's what I know.
Bought from btcstore.eu, a Casascius reseller.

Guessing it's an S3, but pictures will confirm once you are able to post.  In the interim, this is an S2:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=975256.0

And this is an S3:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=945205.0

Based on where you bought it, then the chain of custody (essentially the coin's physical ownership history) is likely not documented...unless btcstore.eu provided you with a PGP COD certifying their original purchase from Mike as a Casascius reseller.  For future reference this kind of documentation provides security and adds collectible value in some cases.

Standing by to make an offer...
34  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Senior Member oscarftw has not yet repaid loan as agreed on: July 27, 2015, 09:53:50 PM
What happened: Loaned 0.3BTC interest free to oscarftw on January 19, with due date of January 26 by midnight GMT.  Late fee of 0.1BTC applies for each day late thereafter.

Amount Scammed: 0.3BTC plus daily late fee, total due currently 0.5BTC as of January 28
Payment Method: BTC

Additional Notes:  Negative feedback left.  Awaiting response from oscarftw in order to resolve.

It's been a while, but wanted to put this out there, since I see that the oscarftw account was recently used on July 15, 2015 (though no posts have been made since January).  I am willing to forgive any late penalty if the borrower would like to repay the original 0.3BTC loan amount.  This provides an opportunity to "save" their senior level account and re-enter the forum with a fresh start.  Repayment addy is in my sig.  Call it a gesture of good faith, for what it's worth.

Too funny...I remember when Mike originally listed this orange B for sale on EBAY.  I actually bid against you for it Blazed.  Seems like ages ago in Bitcoin time...never ceases to amaze how time and rarity create collector value.  He listed an unloaded 1000 BTC bar for charity around the same time as well.
39  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Selling a RARE 10BTC 1oz Silver Casascius Coin on: June 19, 2015, 01:43:13 AM
It does seem ridiculous but most good Casascius coins are going for 3-4x premium. This is a beautiful coin and very practical for storing coins safely without a computer.

Who's Casascius? Sorry I'm newb to this. Why are they selling for 3-4x premium?
