are those usb miners any good? i've been thinking about getting one to check it out

This thread:
<https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421712.0>
prompted me to go ahead and order two 1.6 gh units.
I will see how they work out...
33  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: question about cpu mining on: January 19, 2014, 11:24:56 PM
Yours is right. But cpu mining went out in 2010. Satoshi wanted everyone to mine but pool mining, gpus, fpgas and asics were invented. Usbs will probably lose you money. You should really just buy Bitcoin because you'll make more. The humor was targeted at op.

Humor is fine Wink
As for the usb investment, well, I spent $129 to start.
I have to start somewhere, right?
I have seen conversations referring to banks of USBs adding up to 90+ GH/s,
so I saw it as a way to start in with it all, with opportunity to expand as I go.
I do realize that all of this hardware will be "old" in 6 months.
The hardest part of deciding what to do is that there are plenty of miners with more funds at their disposal,
miners who can buy the top of the line hardware, and then tell us (me, the newbie) that unless I spend $10k or $20k,
I am just pipe dreaming.
The good news is, if I just don't order a drink with lunch for a month, my money is made up Wink
-If I find that BTC mining is hopeless for me, I will investigate other newer currencies with greater chances for success.
Final statement: I'm going to make this work, somehow...

Well he's using 10 rdps

Sounds like perpetual motion to me Wink
I'm not new to computers, but I'm not a server admin either...
Being a forum newbie, I am not too sure if humor is used as a weapon in here.
Getting to my point: is my CPU mining @~850h/s a low number or have I misconfigured my software?
I stopped mining, as I was told it was "a waste of time" (an oft heard statement in the realm of BTC)
I feel I must repeat that I am new to this, I having only been studying up for about two weeks now.
-I must wonder: if the system was designed for solo mining via CPU, then how can "pro miners" knock us little guys off the end of the scale?
-The implied answer is "They did"

I have ordered two 1.6 gH USB AntMiners, so the question is really moot, except that I don't know the answer.
I read this morning that "no less than 3.5 GH/s" is the new bottom line for mining, I suppose I will be ordering some more AntMiners then
(do we all have boxes of antiquated hardware in the closet?)
35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CAN WE REAlly GET FREE Bitcoin? on: January 19, 2014, 10:15:27 PM
Iam very very new to bitcoin. Some friendsadvice me register  like freebitc4all.com or bitcoinz.com  or  primedice.com,I wonder can we really get free bitcoins from that places? Could you tell me what the best way is for new starter to get a very small amount ofbitcoins?
I've gathered 0.00013235 BTC in two days of filling out captchas, so yes, it is possible.
Look for sites that pool rewards and pay via through coinbox and microwallet, as the longer wait for a one at a time payout is restrictive.
A google search will provide all the info you need to start. The folks who have "whole BTC' in their wallet tend to comment that it is "not worth it" to go through the motions of collecting free BTC, but today I was paid out by three sites, and I now posses BTC (value:$1.00). One site pays "well" for visiting other web sites, again, a google search will find this for you.
To close: Yes, you can get free BTC, no, you won't get a lot for the effort. I still click on the three forms I noted above, but have abandoned the "single payout" sites.
36  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: question about cpu mining on: January 19, 2014, 09:54:02 PM
the rpcminer gives me a rate of ~2000 khash/s
does it even worth or not?

How are you getting 2,000 khash/s from a CPU?  What CPU is it and how many cores?

I have a duel processor motherboard with duel 2.66 processors and only got ~850 h/s from CPU mining.
Either I am not doing something right, or the numbers above are not correct, not sure which...
