OP, if everything has been resolved (including the encryption of the wallet file), please lock this topic.
You can lock it by scrolling down and clicking 'lock topic' at the bottom left corner of this page.

Yes, I've updated the password and encrypted the wallet.

Again, thank you to everyone for all the help and advice!  Smiley

I will now lock the topic.

Do it. No outsider can access your wallet this way.

Just click on "Wallet" -> "Password"; and set up a password. That will encrypt it.

I already have a password set up though?
23  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with new Electrum installation on: June 04, 2019, 10:24:28 AM
How strange!

When I closed Electrum (after starting it the first and only time after installing it and pointing it to my old wallet file - I also left it running for about an hour, and the unconfirmed/local amount was still showing), and then reopened it again, all is well, no local transactions are showing, and my balance is correct.

Thanks very much everyone for your help. Smiley

BTW, I notice my wallet file is unencrypted - should I encrypt it?
24  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with new Electrum installation on: June 04, 2019, 08:38:49 AM
Hi guys,

Right, so I've placed the old wallet file in the correct location for the new Electrum installation, fired it up, and it all seems fine (I was a little surprised it didn't ask me for a password, seed or anything, just opened up), my history and balance show, except it shows a small amount of BTC (still not negligible) as unconfirmed Huh, in the bottom status bar of the main window, and the balance is showing the amount I should have, minus the unconfirmed amount.

Why would this be? All the historic balance changes in the main window show a green checkmark next to them, I can't find an entry that doesn't. Also, at the top of this list, there are several entries that under the Date column just say "Local". I don't understand what this is, as this is different from my old version of Electrum (3.0.1 on Windows 7) and wasn't showing there. The last of these "Local" entries shows the correct balance on the right. However, the balance amount in the status bar in the bottom shows the total amount less the mysterious small unconfirmed amount.

I should add, prior to doing this, I loaded up my old Windows 7 and ran Electrum there and it was showing the correct balance as it should and always have (I've mined BTC some years ago, and my balance hasn't changed since then).

Thanks very much for your help.

P.S. Please bear in mind, even though I have several decades experience in IT, I built my own mining rig and mined BTC, I still (sadly Roll Eyes) don't understand the inner workings of Blockchain, how wallets really work, etc, to a degree I wish I did, so please don't get too technical or advanced in your replies.

EDIT: I've totted up the amounts the "Local" entries show, and their total is the sum of the unconfirmed amount. No idea what all that means. Huh

25  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with new Electrum installation on: June 03, 2019, 07:05:27 PM
dj, yes, thanks, I've located the old file in my Windows 7 installation...

Like I said, should I manually copy that file, or let the new installation (on the new drive with Windows 10 on it) create its own new default_wallet, then somehow replace it with the original, or import the original...?

Thanks.
26  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with new Electrum installation on: June 03, 2019, 06:59:07 PM
djhomeschool and Royse777,

Thank you both.

Yes, my file (default_wallet) doesn't have an extension... I also always thought every file had an extension...

I will follow the verifying instructions and then give this a go... The one thing I'm a little confused about is that I should place the file wherever I want... Shouldn't Electrum decide where it should go? I know it's probably not important, just feels slightly weird. What if I let the new installation create a new default wallet, and then somehow import the old one in? Or is that more complicated and/or unnecessary?

Thanks again.
27  Bitcoin / Electrum / Help with new Electrum installation on: June 03, 2019, 06:08:58 PM
Hi,

Sorry, I'm sure this isn't too complicated, but I'm paranoid when it comes to bitcoin and want to make sure I don't do anything silly...

This is the scenario:

One PC. Used to run Windows 7. Electrum version 3.0 (I think). I've since added another SSD to this PC and installed Windows 10 on it, and now boot off of that SSD and use Windows 10 as my main OS, but I've left the old SSD with Windows 7 connected, in case I need anything from it while I transition.

So, I want to install Electrum on the new SSD with Windows 10 and use it from there (and have it show my old funds) from now on.

When I download the new 3.3.6 installer, after running it, it wants either to create a new wallet, or for me to specify the file I want it to use. What should I do at this point? Manually copy the wallet file from the Windows 7 disc (and put it where)? I have the password, seed, etc.

Many thanks.

Thank you all.
29  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to transfer btc from one Electrum wallet to another on: November 12, 2017, 05:26:07 PM

It's a normal on-chain transaction after all, so it requires a fee.

Thank you! I've been wondering about this for a while, is there any way of avoiding transfer fees, when doing stuff like this, and effectively moving your own coins between different (or even the same, as in this case, Electrum-to-Electrum) wallets?
30  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to transfer btc from one Electrum wallet to another on: November 12, 2017, 02:17:50 PM
In Electrum:

6. From your "old" BTC wallet, send all your BTC to the receive address from the new wallet.

Hi, sorry to revive this slightly old topic, just regarding step 6. is this transfer fee-free?

Many thanks!

Hi, I hope someone can help,

I've been running PiMP 1.5.5 14.4 for a couple of days now, mining X11, and most things seem great, except for a couple of issues.

I'm seeing a huge number under the "Discarded" value on the pool stats screen, and this number is constantly growing.  I don't know what this means, and it's a bit worrying.  I'm confused though, as everything else seems fine, the pool I'm mining at is registering my hashrate, my balances on my miner stats page there are growing, I got paid this morning, I have no HW errors and my rejects are low.

So what could that number mean, and do I need to worry about it?

Here's the screenshot:

The second issue is relatively minor, my graphs aren't updating, and it's been over 24 hours, are they bugged, or do I need to do anything?

Many thanks!

I don't know if anyone here uses PiMP.... I've set it up to mine X11 on WP, and it seems to be working fine, except for one thing which I'm unsure about.

Is it normal the reject ratio on x11 is incredibly low? I'm obviously not complaining, but I'm suspicious, just in case it indicates something is wrong with my settings. I set my rig up for x11 last night, it's hashing at about 9 MH/s, and until just 5 minutes ago, I had no rejects! I had over 500 accepted shares, and 0 rejects. Literally now, as I'm writing this, there's been the first reject, so my reject rate is now 0.188 %.

Wp seems to be tracking my rate and earnings are going up, but still, I thought it was a little too good to be true, so I thought I'd better check.

Thanks suchmoon (and utahjohn and his posts with his config files) in particular who helped me with the setup.

Thanks of course goes to Waffle too, for his continued work and improvements on this awesome pool!  Smiley

I think you're on the right track. Try x11mod kernel, it should give you higher hashrate. Intensity with this kernel should be 15 or 16, and gpu-threads 2 or 4. Other settings can remain the same, eventually you might want to try tuning further, but first try to get it running.

I'd suggest to start with d=0.008 or d=0.016

suchmoon, thanks VERY much!

I've succeeded in getting it going just before I saw your reply, I'm very pleased with myself! Smiley

It's fantastic, it's drawing 520-ish Watts instead of 970-ish when it was mining scrypt.  The temps are much lower too and the fans are barely spinning!

Now, I've left everything on default as per the provided example x11mod config file, and just copied a few lines from the old scrypt config file.  This is the current file I'm using:

(the cards are: 280x, 270, 280x, 7950)

"api-allow" : "W:127.0.0.1",
"api-listen" : true,
"api-port" : "4028",
"auto-fan" : true,
"expiry" : "20",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-engine" : "0-0",
"gpu-fan" : "15-70",
"gpu-memclock" : "0",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-powertune" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "2,1,2,1",
"gpu-vddc" : "0.00",
"intensity" : "13,18,13,18",
"kernel" : "x11mod",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin",
"log" : "5",
"lookup-gap" : "2",
"no-pool-disable" : true,
"queue" : "1",
"scan-time" : "60",
"shaders" : "0",
"shares" : "0",
"temp-cutoff" : "86",
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"temp-overheat" : "80",
"temp-target" : "69",
"thread-concurrency" : "0",
"vectors" : "1",
"worksize" : "256"

I left the gpu-threads alone from the old scrypt file, where 280x needed 2, and most other cards 1.  Should I change them all to 2?  Or 4?  Not sure how this works in X11.  What about recommended intensities for these cards?  Also, I didn't specify the difficulty in the password, and it's automatically been set at 0.160.

I'll leave the engine, memory and tc alone for now, small steps.  Smiley

This is what it's looking like right now:

Can anyone help, I'm really struggling, and have now spent hours trying to figure this out.  Excuse the newbness of the questions in advance.

I've been mining scrypt on WP for months now, nearly from the beginning, on the rig I built, which was running BAMT.  It was all working fine, but I now want to switch to X11 due to the fact it runs cooler, uses less energy, and should be more profitable than scrypt.

Someone on this thread, a few pages back, gave a link for PiMP (www.getpimp.org), which is some new OS that's multi-algo, and supposedly very easy to use and reliable.  Well, I'm not getting far with it.  I've managed to image a USB stick, and boot the rig with it, and I get into the GUI.  Where I'm struggling is I simply don't know how to set up the config file for X11.  I have my config file from the BAMT, when I was running scrypt.  Can I copy most of this file, and only change a few lines?  Obviously, I know I need to change the ports from 3333 to 3331.  Do intensities, tc, gpu-threads, etc, remain the same, or at least similar?  Most importantly, I don't know what to put in the line where it says "kernel:"  PiMP provides several example config files.  There are two X11 files, called config.x11.conf and config.x11mod.conf. The first one says "kernel: darkcoin", the second one "kernel: x11mod".  Which one of these should I be using?  Are there any other crucial and important differences in the config file which are different from a config file for the scrypt algorithm?  Anything else I should be aware of?

Finally, I have no idea what difficulty I should specify.  My hash rate on scrypt was about 2.4 MH/s.  If I understand correctly, x11 is about 3.5-4 x more, so my X11 hash rate should be somewhere around 9-10 MH/s?  What should I set the "d=???" to in my password?  Or can/should I just specify any password, and let it be handled automatically?

Many thanks!
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to tell if GPU is damaged or dying or near end of its life? on: June 10, 2014, 10:29:42 AM
Its a lifetime/power trade off. Below 80°C is ok, but a GPU is not going to last 5 years running 24/7 like that.

Sure, but like I said, the card is only about 4 months old, so I would be surprised if it really has been killed in such a short space of time.

Well that sounds like its no a problem with the GPU maybe its the system memory? memtest86+ would be tool to test that.

Yes, might need to test memory, although all components were brand new when installed, and branded and good quality.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to tell if GPU is damaged or dying or near end of its life? on: June 10, 2014, 10:00:51 AM
Thanks for the reply shorena.

The card's never produced any HW errors, I think I was quite conservative with the settings.

Regarding temps, from reading around, I thought anything under 80°C was ok.  I know lower is better, but it's been a struggle as it's getting warmer.  That's why I actually wanted to switch to mining X11 as it runs cooler.

I just tried something, and not sure what conclusion to draw now.  I unplugged the monitor from that card (which is in the primary 16x pcie slot), and plugged it into the card sitting in the 4x slot.  I'm actually not sure if this should even work or not (does the monitor HAVE to be plugged into the card in the primary slot), but regardless, I still couldn't remote desktop into it, effectively, it behaved the same as when the monitor was plugged into that card.  It booted, but hang, and was unresponsive.  It would respond to pings, but remote desktop would begin loading, but then hang too.

Can you recommend a stress testing application?  I'll go and google it too.

Thanks again.
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How to tell if GPU is damaged or dying or near end of its life? on: June 10, 2014, 09:22:45 AM
Hi,

I've tried googling this, but haven't managed to find much on the topic.  I thought folks here might be able to offer some concrete tips and advice.

Basically, I'm suspecting one of the GPUs in my mining rig of being close to expiry, but have absolutely no way of really confirming (or disproving) this.  Are there any "tests", or anything I can do to at least fairly accurately determine the card is (or isn't) dying, or is it all pretty much undeterminable with any real degree of certainty?

For info, the card is a Sapphire R9 270 (non-X), and it's only about 4 months old.  It has been mining nearly 24/7 in those 4 months, with temperatures between 75 and 80°C for 99% of the time, and just over 80, but not over 85 for literally a few hours in its entire life.

Further info, the reason I'm suspecting the card (which is a primary card in my rig, with the monitor connected to it) is that, although it still mines stably, the GUI on this BAMT based rig often hangs, and I recently tried switching over to PiMP, and again, when booting up the rig from a freshly imaged brand new USB stick, the GUI just hangs for about 10-15 minutes, then sort of comes back to life, but it's still laggy and largely unusable.  Someone in the PiMP irc support channel suggested my card might be dying and that got me thinking if that really might be the case, and hanging GUI could be the symptom.  Find that odd though, displaying the GUI (in my non-expert opinion) should be a fairly basic and simple task for the card, far easier than mining, which the card can still do.

Thanks in advance.

40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Profit switching pool - wafflepool.com on: May 29, 2014, 11:10:51 AM
I'm VERY interested in trying the new algorithms, but have never mined anything other than "vanilla" scrypt so far.

The main thing I'm unclear about Waffle's implementation (and here comes the newb question) is do I just have to enable this on the Beta page, and perhaps reconfigure my config.conf file, OR do I have to, in order to be able to mine scrypt-n (and any other additional future algorithms, X11, etc), switch to a different mining software?  I'm currently using BAMT 1.5, which uses sgminer 4.0.0.  I know it's a bit out of date, but I haven't had great experience trying to change/upgrade things in the past, so I left it, once I got it stable on current configuration.

One other thing, if I click enable on the Beta page (which I haven't done yet), and later want to go back (disable effectively), can I do this?

Thanks, very excited about this new development, awesome work as always Waffle! Smiley
