I'm not really spending much BTC. At the moment I am holding bitcoins but I would not ever rule out the chance of spending bitcoins and keeping some in storage when the time came. So far I have not felt the need to want to use bitcoin but sooner or later that time will come when more companies start accepting. I am adding more here and there. I did just spend some recently on a new Trezor, but I immediately put that amount of BTC back into one of my wallets. I would have bought it with credit card or debit card if they would have accepted it. It was actually the first time that I have actually spent BTC. I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was.

I would invest maybe half my savings into bitcoin, but not all my money. Im talking savings here as well, not daily money. I could afford to lose my whole savings but if something happened
I would be stuck. I dont think its time to invest everything you have on bitcoin.

From what I have seen bitcoin is definitely not losing popularity. It may seem like that with prices drop and increasing all the time but that is something that will happen, it's not going to lose popularity over that and definitely not any time soon.

Amazon already has something called "Amazon Coins" in addition to gift cards. Basically they are like "credits" for Kindle Fire apps and games, etc. and by buying them, you can get those products at a discount. I haven't looked into it too much. Nothing to do with crypto, though.

For local wallets I think Multibit is the best (and they are working on a new version that looks awesome). For convenience, blockchain.

Spread your BTC over several wallets as suggest above, or perhaps 1 main wallet and several decoy wallets which you would use for spending.
The main wallet would have a computer dedicated to it and only be used for transactions sent to the spending wallet.
