21  Economy / Service Announcements / uk soap, moisturisers, etc for btc on: March 11, 2013, 06:08:41 PM

^^^ I have been buying soaps and shampoos from this small company for nearly a year now, and have found their products very nice. No more big-corporate-bathroom-products for me now. :-) Anyhow, I just post this up as they have introduced a bitpay option on their web pages.

*note*: I have no financial (or other) interest in promoting this company. I just like their stuff, and thought y'all should know about the btc option. :-)

ah yes, thanks Jouke. Smiley
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / getnewaddress encrypts priv-key? on: February 27, 2013, 08:28:51 AM
I am running bitcoind in linux. I have encrypted the wallet using 'walletpassphrase'. I then ran 'getnewaddress'. This generated a new keypair, and showed me the new address (call it '1address') in bash.

But getnewaddress never asked me for my wallet's encryption key though.

I then run 'dumpprivkey 1address'. And bash tells me it can't recover the priv-key.

Now, i decrypt the wallet using 'walletpassphrase'. I try 'dumpprivkey 1addressblahblah...' again and the priv-key comes up in bash.

My question is, How come the client knew the encryption key in such a way as to automatically encrypt the newly generated keypair's priv-key?
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Qt / bitcoind version 0.8.0 release candidate 1 on: February 11, 2013, 08:33:37 AM
reporting back in from a debian squeeze box running bitcoind 0.8.0rc1-linux 64bit.

bitcoind has been running fine for over 24 hours. I just closed it down then started it again. All working, fast and smooth. No problems to report here.

bitcoind 0.8.0rc1 64bit on debian squeeze. Started a fresh download of the blockchain, came back five hours later, it was downloaded up to the present block. No hitches to report. Sweet!

there you go Trader Steve:

http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewgpg.php?nick=casascius

... and in bash:
$ gpg --import /path/to/casascius/key
$ gpg --verify <hit 'enter' key>
<now paste in entire signed message content, and then hit 'enter' key again>
<ctrl + d>

the digital signature should be verified now.

Thanks juhakall,

Looking into it...
29  Bitcoin / Mining support / mining with kvm (virtualisation) on: November 27, 2012, 12:44:54 PM
How do I set up and run a stock kvm image (ubuntu running the metal and running in kvm too) to control the gpu, making mining from a virtual machine a possibility? Is anybody doing this?

edit: the gpu in this case is a 5850

31  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Help! (post in english, sorry ...) on: March 18, 2012, 04:13:20 PM
Thanks daybyter. I put the order in and it has gone through OK, which is not an experience I always have when shopping online with an overseas dealer.
32  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Help! (post in english, sorry ...) on: March 17, 2012, 02:57:30 PM
Is there any kind person in Berlin who could help me buy some flowers for delivery to a location in Berlin? If so, please message me. Payment in btc, obviously. I'm terribly sorry for communicating this message in English. I speak no German, sadly.

Thanks script kiddies.

All bitten the dust as I write. Users at btc-e.com are reporting p2pool under DOS attack as well. Crap.
34  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Intersango Support - slow transfers.. on: March 15, 2012, 08:04:20 PM
Definitely nothing like that. :-O
Sorry to hear about your experience, that sounds horrible. Wtf is *that* all about then? Smells of BS to me.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pool-X.eu server issues on: March 15, 2012, 05:11:10 PM
Yes I noticed some pool-x downtime today too. I've shifted to litecoin.miningpool.com until pool-x get back to speed. I wish minerd had a backup pool option!
36  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Intersango Support - slow transfers.. on: March 14, 2012, 08:29:25 AM

37  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Intersango Support - slow transfers.. on: March 13, 2012, 08:06:48 PM
log in and check this out:
https://britcoin.co.uk/support.php

"Updated 2012-03-12 16:00 GMT... Metro Bank... Not available. Expected resolution ASAP."

I dropped some cash in that account last week, it's still not showed up. Meh. It's happened before. Whenever I have dealt with them, they always have come good in the end.
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: checkpoint on: March 08, 2012, 03:37:14 PM
Thanks for your reply gmaxwell. Also, here is a link for the stackexchange thread I just started, in case anybody wants to know more.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / checkpoint on: March 08, 2012, 02:23:41 PM
I have two questions about checkpoints:

q1) Which block has most recently been designated a checkpoint.
q2) Could any body kindly post a link to any web-page that explains how and when these checkpoint locations are designated?

(I can't seem to find anything authoritative looking on the bitcoin wiki, or over at stackexchange, or on this forum that deals with that second question.)
