Renting rigs can be extremely profitable, and in my view, less risky than buying into newer coins with less than stable prices. You can always calculate the expected profitability of mining in terms of btc/mh/day if you know the block reward, difficulty, and price. Just estimate conservatively and see if your profit calculation beats the rental price. If it does, you'll probably make money. Even if you don't earn back the full rental price, you'll only lose a percentage of the rental price, which is likely to be much less than you would have lost with trading. Note that you can rent for as little as 3 hours, which is what I tend to do when renting to mine newer coins.
Basically: I think the potential upside to renting is slightly less than trading, but the downside potential is dramatically less.
Shhhh.. we don't want everybody stealing the cheap rigs! ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I agree, renting can be profitable, though it's usually only feasible to rent when a coin is in its infancy. Once a coin starts getting hammered by miners the btc/mhash return goes way down.. unless it's an uncommon case as with SPA/AUR/etc.

I like your Product,I will always support you.
And Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeiiiiiiiiiiiiii will alllways support youuuuuuooouuuuuu... Sorry.. it's late and that Whitney Houston song is the first thing that popped into my head.. That's so weird I had that in my head for some reason too. You got one syllable to many though. Yeah, but I thought replacing "support" with "love" may have been a bit much. ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif)

Unfortunately I rented a rig, which rules out solomining. Lesson learned I suppose ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)

Anyone else having problems mining at the fusioncoin.org scrypt pool?

Yep, I'll be updating the FAQ page soon. They've been edited slightly so far, but they're mostly from Multipool.us, where our code comes from ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) We're definitely considering adding a voting mechanism - maybe when our hashrate grows we'll offer two multiports, a community-voted one and the standard one. We can also easily add direct ports for coins in the future. We may mine coins that look promising at launch if the difficulty is reasonable for the likely potential profits. Most recent launches of promising coins have seen huge multi-GH/s hashrates making the difficulty spike to unreasonable levels for the likely price (which can often be estimated for new coins by the total number of coins and block rewards). We don't typically mine coins for extended periods (read: more than a few hours) if they aren't on /any/ exchanges, except potentially at launch. Our goal is to provide reasonable daily profits while offering the huge potential upside that newer coins can provide. Basically we will adapt and do whatever seems reasonable to generate better than average profits. We're experienced and have made significant profits with mining in the past, but we are always open to new ideas and are happy to discuss things. Perfect answer. I also assume that a scrypt-n pool would be considered when the interest/hashrate and amount of coins are at feasible levels? Honestly, I've got just two small rigs and I'm currently mining specific coins so I won't be using ipoMiner just yet, but I will definitely be keeping my eye on it and look forward to using it in the future.

You guys are everywhere! How many coins are you gonna be running? *I'm currently mining one, sometimes two of your pools
|
|
|
I've been wanting a service like this for some time now.
Just to clarify, ipoMiner won't mine coins at launch?
Also, will you mine a new coin regardless of it being on an exchange?
Have you considered or would you consider implementing some kind of voting system in the future? (Where pool members can vote on which upcoming/new coin to mine)
Thanks!

what is interesting is that the difficulty is going higher and higher but the volume on poloniex itself is very low. It seems that not a lot of people want to sell their coins. Then again, not a lot of people want to buy coins either. It's really interesting to see what is going to happen here. I'm guessing some big guys will jump in sooner and later and will try to pump and dump this coin. Really curious how the aircoin team is going to handle them.
Also keep in mind that these coins don't come easy at 3.72 a block so all the new miners from the past couple days don't have many to sell yet, unless they're selling fractions of coins.

I sent you a couple so you have some..lol. Welcome to AIRcoin anyone else willing to help anyone else get in the aircoin game i have o ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) Aircoin - ARZkEhjRniqoauMMbeJLvhHMgyRtuKk4Xh Anyone can help me out joining AIRcoin, I also have none :-( Anyone giving any away free? Cant wait to see it on the Exchange! AIRCOIN: AMykSYGaLrkTqZopTHQBde3T5jF5264iHV It currently takes 4 hours to mine 1 AIRcoin with 1mhash. Consider that when you're begging for free coins. Either go mine your own or buy some.. don't pull the pity card. Thank-you for educating me, this is what the forums are all about! Please read my previous post in regards to me mining and buying as I don't think I claimed any pity but that's up to your interpretation. As I stated I'm now educated thanks to you :-) I didn't mean to sound so harsh, I just get worn down when I see so many people asking for free coins when all the miners are paying to get theirs (rigs, electricity, time). And yes, this coin doesn't come easy at 3.72 coins per block. Also, asking for free coins is essentially asking for free $, because it takes very real resources to create them and they're several steps away from being exchanged into real dollars.

Or wait until Poloniex opens. Or.. maybe you can offer something in return, instead of just trying to get free coins out of people.

Tweet from AIRcoin team: Trading for AIRcoin begins tonight. #AIRcoin #Poloniex Get Ready!
|
|
|
You can deposit AIRcoin to Poloniex, but it isn't yet open for trading.
|
|
|
Is it safe to deposit to polo? Guess there won't be any trading today regardless though.
My coins were deposited. They took a while to show up but they did.

Due to implementation of Kimoto Gravity Well difficulty adjustment algorithm, hardfork of the blockchain is coming at the block 43847 (it is scheduled to happen on March 16 at 00:00:04 UTC, but might happen earlier or later, depending on the network hashrate). Please update your wallets from our site. If you use the windows installer version, it's ok to install a new version over the existing one. If you use a windows single file execoin-qt.exe, it's ok to delete old execoin-qt.exe file, download and launch a new one. Remember to make a regular backup copies of your wallet.dat! DO NOT delete files in your user profile folder (folder containing wallet.dat).
This is a MANDATORY update to do BEFORE hardfork!
All your Execoins are safe!

This is on every page of exe.dedicatedpool.com, ran by binaryclock:
"IMPORTANT - There was no premine on this coin - All donations to this pool will go straight to the developer/EXE coin fund. Please support him! Even 0.25% is great!"
..along with a running total of donated coins.
I'm impressed.

LOL. you guys are giving MightlyX such a hard time.
Both MightlyX and Alexander addressed each other's concerns in a very elegant and professional manner. And I like that since it stimulates discussions. I don't think MX is trolling.
For those who have been doing crypto for a year or so, they have every rights to be skeptical and cautious. Many have been burned by the coin creator and because of that, cryptocurrency dies a little bit every time that happens. Perhaps MightlyX has been around long enough to see the rise and fall of many coins and through that, he became toughened.
I like what the Aircoin team proposed. I'm not following because of blind faith, but more of an educated guess of what can happen. Since this whole thing is experimental, no one would know what will happan until we tested it out. If it works, yay. If it doesn't, go back to the drawing board.
We also need to take lessons from what made certain coins successful (at least initially). 1. Community (As evident by dogecoin) 2. Financial backer (Maxcoin was backed by Max - although maxcoin died after Max showed little attention to the coin after launch and how the community basically turned against it) 3. ASIC and multipool protection.
I think our community is growing, so it is up to the aircoin team to test out whether their promises work or not.
While centralized control and cryptocurrency seems like an oxymoron, I think this is worth a try.
As for the 2.5 mil coin, it's impossible for them to convert all of them to bitcoin and value them at ~$2 mil.
In the event that the Devs just want to dump the coin to earn a few bucks, At most they can dump a couple thousands of Real dollars during the first week or two. The trade volume would not be that high. For them to be a millionaire, they need to slowly maintain the price of the coin while selling their shares without perturbing the price too much. If that's their plan we will earns a handsome some from our initial investment. That means our shares are not going to be devalued anyways.
But if they really want to earn the big bucks, they would need to stick to their original plan and if they do succeed, we also win big.
+1
