24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DCR] Decred - Hybrid PoW/PoS | btcsuite Devs | Tons of New Features | Go on: June 11, 2016, 10:34:27 AM
This development dispatch covers work completed since the Decred v0.1.4 release from May 27th, 2016. Since then, developers have merged 58 pull requests of code into 6 software repositories. During this period, a total of 53 commits occurred in these repositories and represent modifications to the effect of 9,220 lines of code added to and 4,481 lines removed from the Decred codebase.

Two additional stake pools have also come online to support the network (in alphabetical order):

Binaries: https://github.com/decred/decred-release/releases/tag/v0.1.5

dcrd
  • Synced a large number of fixes, improvements, and optimizations from upstream through November (223-26a3200, 229-08f7b6b), December (230-fe65e81, 231-77b2c53, 235-e433c18) 2015, and January (240-e190b7f, 243-1c4314e, 244-7d4646c, 246-0aeccc0, 253-6febb7b, 255-16a5842, 256-4e878a8), 2016
  • Introduced the concept of a new interface named TxSource which aims to generically provide a concurrent safe source of transactions to be considered for inclusion in a new block. This is a step towards decoupling the mining code from the internals of dcrd. Ultimately the intent is to create a separate mining package (225-9031d85)
  • Introduced a new mempool config in preparation of moving mempool to its own package (226-d73e576)
  • Created a skeleton mining package as a step towards decoupling mining code to ultimately house all of the code related to creating block templates and CPU mining (227-42550a5)
  • Added DisableRelayTx to config to set a value in the version message which informs the remote peer on whether to send inv messages for transactions (228-f0389a3)
  • Simplified PushAddrMsg to ensure that all addresses have an equal chance of being included in the addr message and moved the pseudorandom number generator seeding to package level so that it can be overridden for testing if required (232-c9c32d5)
  • Cleaned up wire code (233-c44f08b)
  • Improved test coverage (236-18e35fe)
  • Optimized the filter address handling code in the RPC server (237-d1d65c7)
  • Improved JSON RPC consistency (238-164f677)
  • Fixed ticketfeeinfo sorting (239-33bcf33)
  • Implemented a sendheaders command to request that a peer send header commands instead of inv commands when announcing new blocks (241-1cb038c)
  • Consolidated several public methods to make the creation of inbound and outbound peers more homogeneous (242-0d67c15)
  • Implemented banning based on dynamic scores. Dynamic ban scores consist of a persistent and a decaying component. The persistent score can be used to create simple additive banning policies. The decaying score enables the creation of evasive logic which handles misbehaving peers (especially application layer DoS attacks) gracefully by disconnecting and banning peers attempting various kinds of flooding. Dynamic ban scores allow these two approaches to be used in tandem (245-e3c5cd5)
  • Added a logger message containing the time it takes to process a block (247-e47d83c)
  • Modified the peer package to add support for the sendheaders protocol message (254-208eaba)
  • Prevented nodes from repeatedly requesting and rejecting the same transaction as different peers inv the same transaction (257-5125078)
  • Simplified block template exports (258-2ad0b1a)
  • Optimized map limiting in the block manager to improve efficiency (259-c21db7a)
  • Modified the chaincfg package to register the default network params via the init function instead of manually hard coding their data into the maps. This is less error prone when adding new default networks (260-d6ac2f0)
  • Consolidated tests into the chaincfg package (261-848d9fc)
  • Created mempoolPolicy to configure the mempool policy and decouple the values from the internals of dcrd to move closer to a mempool package (263-157d1cd)
  • Fixed an issue that often caused slow processing of calls through the block manager (265-eda86f5)
  • Created a new internal package for fast access to live tickets (roughly 14x faster access) (266-92635a4)
  • Added rescan and scanfrom options to importprivkey and importscript (267-63fc4e7)
  • Updated documentation (234-3117ae7, 248-2030b4d, 252-8a9956d, 262-9b3e7d7), formatting (249-d3ef588), naming (250-70f6de8), and versioning (268-b869593)

dcrwallet
  • Removed unused functions (256-8eebdff)
  • Fixed an issue where transactions were previously removed in the forward order when rolling back a block, which may cause transaction faults if there are transaction chains. Instead, roll back in the reverse order (263-3e31373)
  • Added new optional resyncing options to importscript and importprivkey for convenience. A rescan height can be included as the last argument so that the user can easily rescan from a height that is not the genesis block (264-3942d8b)
  • Updated versioning (265-cc02f1b)

dcrrpcclient
  • Added gettickets to the wallet RPC client handlers (26-65f9d22)
  • Added rescan options for importprivkey and importscript (27-f3c620d)

dcrutil
  • Added AmountSorter used by the median function in ticketfeeinfo (12-4a3bdb1)

dcrticketbuyer
  • Set HTTP server to localhost only by default (3-cef1a81)
  • Fixed an issue where the fee from a difficulty window could incorrectly return as zero if the first window was the newest, incomplete window and there were not any new tickets in that window yet. This has been corrected by checking for the size of the first window, and also by skipping any zero fee windows (5-e30f1c5)
  • Added the ability to choose which price average to use. Before, the user could only use the average of the pool price and the VWAP price for the ticket average price if not specifying
a price target. Now users can select the mode of their choosing using the avgpricemode flag, and also the number of blocks to use in the calculation of the VWAP (6-700ecd3)
  • Added a warning on startup if the wallet is not connected or unlocked (7-5cc29df)
  • Updated configuration and fixed an unlikely simnet panic (8-65641c4)

dcrweb
  • Rewrote the landing page, made it cleaner, smaller, and SEO friendly (4-1b17a2d)
  • Added a stake pool finder utility and caching infrastructure for the block height display (5-)
  • Added the latest stake pools to the finder utility (6-53c795a)
since this update i've missed 3 votes while the wallet was online, something that never happened before. somebody else?
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CAPT] CAPTcoin : 2GIVE SWAP BACK ON - TARGETING A 1:5 RATIO on: June 08, 2016, 09:28:41 AM
I was originally told that there were only 1.2M coins in circ, hence the initial offer was based on that date point -- there is almost twice that amount....
2give has a supply of 50M, hence a ratio of 1:10 is still a good deal...

Consider that not only is CAPTcoin not actively developed, it doesn't have a block explorer OR any means of exchange -- and what do you have?
a block explorer is trivial to set up and capt is listed on both cryptopia and yobit

The fact of the matter is, SNF only has so many coins to do swaps and it's not like we're getting anything of value out of them -- just mindshare -- and likely not much of that since a high percentage of people immediately run off to an exchange to cash 2GIVE out for BTC.
while i do some trading, i never dump coins for a small buck. as a fact i still own 34k capt and 395k 2give...

At the end of the day you either want "a slice of the watermelon" or "the whole grape" ?
just a (fair) big enough slice since nobody can assure me that 2give won't be in the same situation in a couple of years...

Think it over...and when we get a working wallet online we'll open up the SWAP and you can decide privately if you want something of value or not.  This swap offer will not be open forever.  We just release our RC5 wallet that includes Gift*card paper wallet support in the app.  When coupled with the mobile wallet we're starting development on now we have a powerful system to do "air-drops" in the real world.
while i like the PoW implementation you've developed for 2give, i was witness of so many coin failures because the developer lost interest...
value is subjective, not absolute and maybe 2give has more value right now, but again, where will it be in a couple of years?

PS: when you say the "net is alive" -- what does that mean to you?  I can't see it yet, but I can share that the 2GIVE seed nodes carry an average of +80 connections, recently spiking to around 120 -- what's in your wallet??
i mean that transactions are fast as blocks generation.
there are 10 connections right now...
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CAPT] CAPTcoin : 2GIVE SWAP BACK ON - TARGETING A 1:5 RATIO on: June 07, 2016, 09:27:08 PM
Based on the updated info from skunk that there are actually 2.3M floating CAPT and the our target for SWAPS has been at around 2-3% of the total 2GIVE supply puts us at a 1:5 swap ratio.
just 1:5? capt is in a way better shape than what pmp was because:

1. the distribution was fair and 100% completed

2. even if the wallet is far from perfect and with its issues, it works and the net is alive

thus it's way more valuable than what php was...
sorry but even if this coin is not actively developed anymore, i won't swap it at a lower ratio than the initially promised 1:10...

and as i've already said: yes, the wallet needs a lot of ram but not much more as other wallets i'm running (eg. tekcoind) but doesn't consume it indefinitely, indeed it stays constant day after day...
therefore i can't confirm it's affected by a memory leak, however that's on linux, i don't know what windows does...

while it's true that CAPTcoind is a memory hog (almost 2Gb virtual memory on my 16Gb desktop), mine is is up to date since several days now and did never crash...
try to add a generous swapfile to see if it helps, i find odd that the wallet is rebooting the host, if it's linux, it should just invoke the oom-killer when out of memory and terminate the wallet process...

30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PMP] PreminePlus : 2GIVE CONVERSION OFFER ENHANCED w/CAVEAT on: May 08, 2016, 12:56:58 PM
I like the idea, but it would be difficult to do a valuation of the coin as its not being traded in any exchanges now.
Could you tell us some rough figures you have in mind for the reverse merger?

I like the idea too, but PMP might be a little more valuable than 1:1.

"The Worth of a Thing is the Price it Will Bring"

I'm totally willing to wait and see -- but PMP isn't tradable anywhere -- and as far as I can tell the chain and engine itself is broken and needs some significant time and energy to fix it.  There's too much friction in the chain to make it useful IMHO, which is why I designed 2GIVE as a true hybrid POW/POS model.

What possible compensation could/would this community offer a developer for their time and effort?

The last market cap I saw for PMP put the whole base at around $2,500, no??

I could see burning up 20-30 hours tuning PMP up (and in fact I've dropped 3-4 so far in addition to putting two wallets online in the cloud) at $150/hr that would be worth more than tokens themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand your sentiment around wanting to believe they are worth more :-)

Right now our two linux wallets and our windows wallet show:

    "blocks" : 123422,

Tell ya what when I can see that coins can actually get transferred and confirm (thanks jalmari for the 1 PMP to our PHrG5LGWvS6f4nKfjRbVQELvGpKR8vsrRJ address) -- I'll consider enhancing the offer.

If that can happen in the next few hours I'll bump the pre-Bittrex swap valuation to 1:10  (PMP:2GIVE) as a reward for joining the 2GIVE ecosphere early.

If jalmari's generous send cannot confirm in that amount of time, the 1:1 offer will stand once those coins have actually confirmed.

Anyone who wants to participate should PM me with their Give* address so that I can create an individual PMP address to track the send and confirmations.

We'll run the PMP wallets for a week after Bittrex opens -- to prove that we have a viable means of exchange.  If no one here want's to do the swap, then we'll shut the infrastructure down and focus on bringing another coin into the fold.

Thank you very much for your time, help getting our wallets online, and consideration of our exchange offer.

Sincerely,

David V Duccini

Thanks for that reply! I think 1:10 is generous, and should be sufficient to get most PMP hodlers to move over to 2GIVE, so thanks for putting that offer on the table. It's very difficult to 'value' a coin like PMP - at one time things looked extremely promising, but then some key personnel left ... and here we are, waiting for 'people' to return, which at this stage looks unlikely. I have the feeling there are a few people still following PMP after more than two years, so that's probably the 'value' 2GIVE gets from any swap - some rusted on crypto enthusiasts with +2 years of experience in the cryptospere. I'm in for the swap to 2GIVE!

I'll send you my 2GIVE address, and if you send me your PMP address I'll try and send you a coin to test the PMP chain. I'm still staking with no problems, but I honestly haven't sent a PMP in ages.

thanks
+1 unfortunately my pmp's are locked for staking with only 10 confirmations so it'll take a while until i'm able to send them anywhere...

@skunk:

Looks like this is what you need (also posted on IRC but might be useful for other folks here):
Re-launching dcrwallet with --unsafemainnet should enable the getseed RPC.

dcrwallet --help:
/unsafemainnet
Enable storage of master seed in mainnet wallet
when calling --create and enable unsafe private
   information RPC commands

that did the trick Smiley
thank you again myagui

i didn't follow those steps because i didn't want to take down the wallet and potentially miss any vote, but now that the ticket price is just 6.50133864 i can't purchase any new ticket even with an unlocked balance of above 25 dcr (i'm on v0.1.0)...

now i want to try to this method but asking the wallet about the seed i receive:

-4: RPC function disabled on MainNet wallets for security purposes

please, how can i get the wallet seed again?

When exactly did you get this error message, meaning, what command did you run just before?
./dcrctl --wallet getseed

That looks like an RPC error, and wallet creation is not run via RPC AFAIK. Off the top of my head, in order to (re)create your wallet from seed, you'll want to do:
dcrwallet --create
the thing is i cannot find my wallet seed anymore...

It should be much faster to get you some help if you hop on IRC btw.
ok, i'll jump on #decred, thank you myagui...

@skunk:
I had some error while trying to get tickets just now as well. Others had reported similar issues in the Decred forum, and I just followed the sequence that seems to have fixed it for everyone else:
 - upgrade to 0.0.10
 - recreate wallet from seed
 - consolidate balance

This worked for me. Should you have any trouble with these steps, you'll probably find better/expanded instructions in the Decred forum.
Good luck!

while dcrd update was successful, dcrwallet update fails:
Code:
$ go get -u -v github.com/decred/dcrwallet/...

This fails because grpc was updated. Have a look at pull request 189. That's going to be merged in a few minutes which will fix the issue for you.
