21  Other / Meta / Re: Why is there no Technical board in the Altcoin Section? on: October 20, 2020, 09:15:29 PM
Thank you for the information. I'm locking this one.
22  Other / Meta / Re: Why is there no Technical board in the Altcoin Section? on: October 20, 2020, 11:49:20 AM
Because the altcoin section consists of shitcoins altcoins with tons of different technologies/protocols/etc.

If you have a question to a specific issue with a shitcoin altcoin, you can always check reddit or ask the developers.

Most technical issues with shitcoins altcoins would probably end with "it is a bug, because you know.. it is a shitcoin".
In the end, this is [Suspicious link removed].

I agree, but then why is there a Altcoin section at all?
23  Other / Meta / Why is there no Technical board in the Altcoin Section? on: October 20, 2020, 11:34:49 AM
I'm surprised to find that there isn't a Technical Altcoin Section.
The main Altcoin Discussion Board is clogged with random meaningless topics, and there's no place for the real questions, why so?
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Extracting the hashed password from a Litecoin Android Wallet. on: October 20, 2020, 11:28:01 AM
If I have a backup copy of the Android Litecoin wallet and I don't remember the unlock password, is there a way to take out the hash and try crack it?
I learned how to use Hashcat and I already created a wordlist with my possible password variations but how to extract the hash?
The format is Litecoin-Wallet-Keys-XXXX-XX-XX

25  Other / Meta / Re: Can't post on Archival? on: September 28, 2020, 06:42:59 PM
I also tried, as I'm still a newbie. There is no option to post a new topic. I tried to move one of my threads and got the same error as LoyceVbot.
When I become Jr. I will write if there is a change.
26  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Mnemonic seed? on: September 22, 2020, 11:57:40 PM
I have no idea, I still read but bitcoin is a whole universe, it takes a long time to understand and realize many things.
There are words that are not in BIP39's word list: "overweight" for example, so I guess that's why it can't be added.
27  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Mnemonic seed? on: September 22, 2020, 08:43:24 PM
Then, how can we determine which seed belongs to which wallet?
My relative died recently, and his parents found a piece of paper labeled "bitcoin" containing mnemonic seed.
I tried to import it into Electrum, but does not accept it. How do I know what wallet it is for?
28  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Mnemonic seed? on: September 22, 2020, 11:57:04 AM
I just learned that Bitcoin Core does not support mnemonic seed.
Which wallets support mnemonic seed except Electrum and are there any differences in the wordlists? I see Electrum has "old" and "new" wordlists.
Can I use the same seed on a different wallets?
29  Other / Archival / Re: [Merit] Hey Newbies! Can You Sign A Message? on: September 11, 2020, 08:49:13 AM
It seems like a nice initiative but I just read about dust attacks, isn't it unsafe to post addresses here and there so that people associate the address with your username?
If the idea is to be anonymous, why publish addresses?

I know how to sign from an address, I have Electrum installed and I don't need merit. I have enough and I can't even spend them all.
30  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dust Attack, what it is, why it is dangerous and how to prevent falling to it on: September 11, 2020, 08:26:46 AM
This is a very interesting read.
I've heard of these attacks before, but I never understood how a person could be threatened.

  • Extremizing: an exchange that offers you $ 30 to register, after KYC, is practically performing a dust attack. Except that in that case, using the chain analysis company you just bought, you can perform a very efficient tracking of your UTXOs. Do you think this is an impossible scenario? it already happened.

Quote
it already happened.

Do you have any references for this information? It would be interesting to read a little about this IRL attack.
Looking at it, this is a threat only to people who have a lot of accumulated coins.

Another scenario,
If I am attacked this way, and then I decide to buy something with these satoshis, and if the buyer eventually puts the coins in their savings address, no one can prove that these coins are mine.

N.B. Quoting a part of a list is awful.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is there an offline wallet to support ERC-20 tokens? on: September 09, 2020, 07:07:59 AM
As it says in the subject line.
Is there such a wallet that I can install on my computer and import private keys without having to go to various sites.

Importing private keys on a website doesn't seem safe to me at all. There are many cases of stolen wallets.
32  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: September 03, 2020, 09:32:20 AM
Again I am with a question.
When I open a channel, I only use the coins that are in the channel to move them back and forth. If I want to take out some of the coins that have gathered in the channel, I have to close it and open a new one, right?
Can anyone else fund my channel? For example, Bob and Alice have a channel that is 0.001BTC, can Jack transfer 0.0001 coins to Bob and Alice's channel outside the LN and thus increase the channel volume to 0.0011?
The idea is if someone has to send me BTC he can directly fund my channel.

Don't get me wrong here. I like the forum the way it is, just wandering why it is this way.
It's just that in the beginning you need to understand that the forum is geeky oriented.
To add a link, for example, you need to edit codes, tags. It's very cool for those who understand it.
The more you get to know the forum, the cooler it gets. You find really many and interesting hidden treasures of information.
34  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: September 02, 2020, 09:36:19 AM
It's a little bit more complicated than I thought at first. I will have to read more.
I found it interesting because I want to buy bitcoin to use every day for various small things, as I asked here . There are various places around me that accept cryptocurrencies, which is great.
I think this is the future of finance and I decided to start using it now.
Seems that the LN thing is way out of my league, yet.
35  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: September 02, 2020, 08:36:33 AM
I found this wonderful thread after checking the size of the fees that are paid for transactions.
This may be the solution for small transactions, but I have a question.
If I decide to sell something with LN payment, can I use an address that is outside the LN wallet?
In other words, do I pay fees to transfer bitcoins from LN network to,let's  say, my Electrum wallet? If it is an off-chain transaction, how to I go back on-chain?
36  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Career Through Bitcointalk, Why Not? Newbie May Need To Know! on: September 01, 2020, 06:43:24 AM
Had no idea that people came here to "work". I saw some people carry ads in their signatures for a fee which should be OK, but isn't it illegal to become a money lender? You should be at least licensed private money lender to do that (in most countries).
37  Other / Meta / Newbie point of view. on: August 31, 2020, 07:59:25 AM
Hello,
I came here not long ago and this is a great place full and extremely much information, but unfortunately it is quite poorly arranged.
There are a few things I want to share and also ask.

I had difficulty finding the rules of the forum, it turned out that they are not official.
The help menu is pointless, most of the features aren't even mentioned there at all, like Rules, Merit, Trust, feedback etc. You have to look for pinned posts here and there.

I encounter misunderstandings.
If I have a question, I find a topic that does not fully answer my question and I decide to publish my point.
I get a message that the topic is older than xx days and it is better to open a new topic. I open a new topic, people say that there are older topics on which I had to post my question.  In the meantime, I have to wait a few minutes between searches.

People do not read the previous comments. Several people answer the same thing simply by using different words and expressions.

I don't mind the old look of the forum, I even like it, but the text formatting tools are awful.

Don't take this as criticism, rather as wondering how things can be so confusing, this is a 10 year old forum.
38  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sending coins to an exchange vs mixers? on: August 31, 2020, 06:35:01 AM
I got some very good informative answers, but some guys keep posting the same thing.
Didn't you read the previous comments before replying?
I'm locking this one.
Thank you for your efforts, though.
39  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Storing the coins for day-to-day use? on: August 28, 2020, 08:50:28 AM
Let me sum everything up, see if I understood correctly.
If I want to have two wallets, one on the phone and the other on the computer, they must have different seeds.
I can use the same seed, but it is not recommended.
In fact, my wallet gives me access to the funds in that address which is found on the blockchain.
For instance, I can have 1000 wallets accessing the particular address with funds, then the wallet is kind of a debit card, accessing my bank account.
I used to wonder if that was the case. Now it sounds much more logical.

Thank you all, especially to @mocacinno, I see you have the same ad as o_e_l_e_o, It seems that everyone who has this mixer ad is quite tech-savvy.
40  Other / Beginners & Help / Storing the coins for day-to-day use? on: August 28, 2020, 07:25:02 AM
Yet another question.
I decided before buying bitcoin to organize their storage properly. I settled on the Electrum solution.
First, it doesn't take up as much space as Bitcoin-qt, it seems the most secure.
It's no point switch to hardware wallets just yet.
Second, I don't want to use BTC for store of value. I prefer to use them for shopping, small transactions as that's the initial point of bitcoin.

I want Electrum to be installed in 2 places at the same time, both will be online. If I change the password of the first installation, what happens to the second one, I couldn't find an answer?

Note: I tried to reply to some old topics but I get a warning not to answer but to open a new topic, so I did.
