Sempron 140/145 & 1gb RAM.

You don't need more for a dedicated mining machine, especially one running linux.

Install MSI Afterburner and overclock it. Also, underclock the memory. Set the fan speed manually to 80% or so.

Maybe try linuxcoin?

I'm getting ~390Mh/s from that exact card in linux @ 960/300. phoenix+phatk

Getting ~370Mh/s @ 910/300 with the one that handles the display.

Was your x4 slot open ended? Mine seems to be closed. I don't really want to resort to a soldering iron like this guy: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/249291-12-card. Will probably have to get an extender cable then. Next problem is how to mount the card while still leaving the case closed... (don't want the kids to get electrocuted).

My bad, I was thinking you had two x16 sized slots and one ran at x4.

You could still hook up 3 cards if you buy both an x1->x16 and an x4->x16 cable.

Fitting them in your case may be tricky, get creative and you'll probably be able to work something out.

Extender Cables: http://cablesaurus.com or http://shop.ebay.com/cablesaurus/m.html

Or you could cut the slots: http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=53

I personally haven't cut any slots ... I went to do it once and decided to just get the cables right before I went through with it.

Can you post your bitcoin.conf?

What kind of GPU do you have?

If you're CPU mining with that core duo, check out ufasoft: http://forum.bitcoin.org/?topic=3486.0

Ufasoft seemed to perform best back when I was CPU mining, I haven't used it in a long time though so there may be something better out there.
26  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hardware payoffs with consideration to Difficulty increases on: July 23, 2011, 03:10:29 AM
I'm not sure about the timeline for paying it off, but maybe you can cut your initial costs.

Do you have a part list put together? $1000 seems high for 1.3 Gh/s. Assuming you live in the US.

And now I'm a namecoin miner, and will listen to a song with miner in the title to celebrate, like this

28  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: namecoin on: July 23, 2011, 02:47:43 AM
That is the correct way to do it.

It's normal behavior for namecoind to just show a blinking cursor when you start it up in windows.

http://dot-bit.org/InstallAndConfigureNamecoin

"Note : on windows, this message may not appear, and you need to open a new terminal to type other commands."
29  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: namecoin on: July 23, 2011, 01:58:41 AM
Simple error, I had to save the .conf file in the right way.

As in
http://dot-bit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=54

that give me a command prompt screen with nothing on it. I don't know if that's an improvement or not.

1. Open cmd.exe, run "namecoind.exe".

2. Open another cmd.exe, perform commands...

Get your first namecoin address: "namecoind.exe listreceivedbyaddress 0 true"

"namecoind.exe getinfo"
"namecoind.exe listtransactions"
"namecoind.exe help"

You can start mining once you catch up to the current block.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A87TDUSB3/

Looks roomy for 2. Go for it.

You should be able to hook up 3 cards to that motherboard if you get an extender cable.

I'm running 2x5850 and 1x5870 on a board with one PCIe x16, one PCIe x4, one PCIe x1 thanks to a PCIe x1->x16 extender from cablesaurus.
31  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: I need Help Making a Persistent Linuxcoin Bootable USB Drive 1Bitcoin as Payment on: July 23, 2011, 01:19:47 AM
Hi, This is URGENT

I have been trying to create a Bootable persistent Linux Coin USB Flash Drive with no success, I have tried everything related on the forum I could find and I am having no luck at all. Is anyone able to assist? I need to be able to make many for my miners, and they need to save settings etc in case of a reeboot etc.

I can provide Team viewer access to my windows machine if it is required to make the USB Flash Drive with the latest Linux Coin.

I Will pay 1 Bitcoin for someone to log in and show me how to do it successfully, it is very urgent. I have All ISO files of the Linuxcoin versions, this is to run 3 x HD6990's with over clocking. Please Help Smiley

Thanks

32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Namecoins is now 2x more profitable than Bitcoins on: July 23, 2011, 01:04:20 AM
Is solo mining NMC more profitable than mining in a pool with 840 Mhash/sec?

Some things to consider:

  • stale shares, pool vs solo
  • pool connectivity issues
  • pool fees

Luck plays a big factor and variance can be a ruthless beast.

I found 5 blocks in 18 hours
then 0 the next 24 hours with the same hash rate!

Have you tried asking them about bitcoin? They have pretty good support (support@pokerstars.com).

I really doubt they will be touching the US market any time soon.

35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: memory doesn't stay underclocked when under load on: July 22, 2011, 07:47:53 PM
Hi

I'm using MSI Afterburner to tweak my 2x6950 set up. I've used it to underclock my memory to 625Mhz...However, the MSI hardware monitor shows that the clock jumps back up to 1250 once I start mining. When idle, it shows the mem speed at 150Mhz (presumably the GPU is  in energy saving mode).  I know that Afterburner is doing something when I tweak my cards to 625Mhz since GPU-Z shows the change.

I've also tried Saphire Trixx, but that utility appears to be a bit buggy with my dual gpu setup.

Those that are underclocking your memory: does MSI's hardware monitor show your memory speed jump up when under load too? Anyone know how to keep mem speeds low while under load...or am I doing something wrong?

Sometimes when I mess with the clocks in Afterburner on 58xx cards it does the same thing.

While the miner is working I:

1. Change the core clock up a little but up and the memory clock a little bit down
2. Click Settings, select a different GPU. Wait for the "GPU# Selected" to go away
3. Click Settings, go back to the trouble GPU. Wait for the "GPU# Selected" to go away
4. Clock up/down to the desired amount.

I'll go to like 600 or 700 memory, then I'll switch, come back, and go to 305.

This seems to do the trick. If I don't do this it just keeps switching back like what happens to you.

You can also try changing it in smaller increments and letting it run for a little bit each time you switch the speeds.

For a while my cards were real fussy about their memory being underclocked, then one day they all decided to play nice.

If this is a dedicated miner you should check out LinuxCoin: http://forum.bitcoin.org/?topic=7374.0

Follow this guide if you want to put it on a USB drive: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=7374.msg286940#msg286940

All my place can handle power wise Sad

Considering putting some rigs datacenter.

It's still showing that. :S

I fixed this Smiley

Pretty damn embarrassing.

Send me a namecoin address and I'll ship a couple coins your way.

Do you have this issue with other pools?

I was getting a ridiculous amount of stale shares at bitparking (>10%).

I went solo for a while because of the problems.

I just started a new namecoin pool if you're interested in trying it out. No fee during the first week.

Seems to need some work, I went to it and it says 'Welcome, drew!' and gives me an option to logout,  though it is my first visit ever.

Thank you for posting this. I shut the website off for a moment. Doesn't affect mining.

Give me a namecoin address, I'll send you some coin.
