21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Long-term sustainability of Bitcoin on: July 15, 2014, 02:26:45 AM
Watched the video. The video is not about the long term stability of bitcoin, it is actually an ad for peercoin. But it is very infomative, some points are a bit shaky, and I learnt a bit more about PoS. Enjoyed the video, but still not interested in peercoin.
peercoin uses a flawed method of PoS and still uses checkpoints.
PoS should really mean piece of shit as opposed to proof of stake as it means now. That is what PoS coins and PoS both are.

The anonymous genius Satoshi invented Bitcoin.  He also founded this forum.

It is not important who Satoshi is.

But, wouldn't it be nice to know, where did he go?

Proof-of-Stake!

Peershares is ahead of its time!

If you want to be ahead of your time, you might check it out!

The "-walletnotify" command feature is also supported in this client, by the way.

I don't know what this is.

Could you please explain: what is the "-walletnotify" command feature?

Thanks  Smiley

Excellent!

I am glad to learn of ongoing advances at Peercoin Smiley

Proof of Work is version 1
Proof of Stake is version 2

So if you want Bitcoin 2.x then that is Peercoin
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: For Any Litecoiners Considering Switching Because of the Recent 51% Scare... on: May 22, 2014, 02:26:16 AM
I don't see that much difference between LTC and BTC.  LTC has 4x faster block production and therefor, if LTC were as successful as BTC then LTC would arrive at blockchain bloat problems about 4 times sooner.  LTC has a different Proof of Work scheme but it is still PoW and so suffers from the originally unanticipated but inevitable centralization of power into a very few miners and even fewer mining pool managers.

Bitcoin and Litecoin are a grand experiment. A spectacular breakthrough for censor resistant cryptomoney. But they are in fact the first prototype.  They are version 1.

The second prototype is more advanced.  It builds on the great advances of the Bitcoin breakthroughs, but corrects and improves on at least one major weakness: the inherently centralizing nature of Proof of Work.  This improved version employs Proof of Stake.

Of the variety of new Proof of Stake coins, I personally have gone nearly 100% into Peercoin.  It is far and away the most time proven crypto in the Proof of Stake world.

Peercoin builds on Bitcoin as does Litecoin.  When the deep developer pool of Bitcoin makes protocol improvements: Litecoin and Peercoin can both incorporate these core protocol improvements.

But Peercoin has the advantage that it does not suffer the downsides of Proof of Work.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NAS v NXT v NXTL v NEM v NHZ, some questions on: April 23, 2014, 02:01:38 PM
Hi Jubalix,

Good thread idea.  Too bad it hasn't gotten much interest so far.

Sorry I can't contribute much yet.  Fairly I understand the dynamics of BTC and PPC now.

Know almost nothing yet about Open Transactions but it is very interesting. As is Ripple but less so.

So, what about Nxt? NAS, NXTL, and I would add NEM and NHZ and the like.  I need to learn the dynamics here.  Seems there may be some fundamentally better protocol?

What is BCNext up to?  Anybody know?

28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] What altcoins will survive the next 12 months? on: April 21, 2014, 03:32:15 AM
Blackcoin, people? Really???  Could someone please care to explain to me what is so special about blackcoin, other than the logo and it's the latest pump.  I mean come on, NXT has or is going to have:

Decentralized Asset Exchange
Alias system
Arbitrary messaging
A Digital Goods store
Multigateway
A Turing-complete complete scripting layer (Automated Transactions) that will allow for things like DACs/trustless escrow
Indirect mining
Coins being built on top of Nxt
And even games being developed right now that will use either a Nxt asset or NXT as an in-game currency.

Again, tell me what's so special about Blackcoin, please?

+1000000 it's funny that many people prefer useless clones, but sooner or later NXT will be on top without doubt

I am interested in the Nxt algorithm, but, Seriously, all you Nxt fanboys do you not realize your founder and guiding light BCNext has abandoned you.  Look in the Nxt wiki: http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/BCNext%27s_Plan
Part Three, first two sentences of next to last paragraph, "BCNext has departed permanently. He doesn't feel responsible for the future of Nxt."
and last two sentences of last paragraph, "You are left on your own. Good luck."

You are all in a bus going down the highway and your driver just jumped out!
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is LTC Dying? on: April 15, 2014, 02:34:43 AM

In case you think LTC is dying... which coin recommend me to invest for a long term?

Perhaps you could check out Peercoin.  Peercoin is a more balanced design, but it is more complex than both BTC and LTC which are almost identical except for block rate generation time and Proof-of-Work algorithm.

Both BTC and LTC will suffer badly in the future from Blockchain bloat and centralization of control due to ASIC mining.  BTC blockchain is already huge and the coin is only five years old. I am confident it will never get to 50 years old and probably not 10 years.

Because of intensifying centralization of ASIC mining, both BTC and LTC coin holders have NO say in what software or protocol changes might be adopted or not.  Surprisingly not even the devs have much say if new software changes are adopted.  This is because increasing control is being centralized in the shrinking pool of ASIC miners and the even smaller group of mining pool managers.  Thus, BTC and LTC both have within themselves different groups with conflicting interests.

On the other hand, Peercoin is truly decentralized.  A full minting node can be run on a personal computer, or even a computer as simple as a Raspberry Pi.  In the future Peercoin might run fully distributed on smart phones.  There is no centralization and no divergence of interest as in BTC and LTC.

Peercoin's advanced design has many more beneficial facets but I don't have time to go into all of them here.

Good Luck, and Best to You.

Good News!

Peercoin community is showing serious devs working now to enhance the most advanced cryptomoney design!

Congratulations to Peercoin!
