21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: April 20, 2015, 11:39:28 PM
I'm getting the following error on the Mac version of the latest update (1.4.8 not 1.4.7): "An error occurred, the server has quit. Please restart the application."

(Also, and unrelated, I tried to create a next forum account but the human verification test doesn't seem to work properly. I tried a few different things and it always rejects the code.)

* Latest NXT version is 1.4.17, so you should update your NXT to latest release.
  - Download latest package: https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/downloads/nxt-client-1.4.17.zip
  - Extract the archive and you'll get a folder 'nxt'.
  - Go to /Applications in Finder
  - Right click on NXT Wallet Application, and select 'Show Package Contents'.
  - Go to Resources and look for 'nxt' folder there in directories.
  - Wherever you find 'nxt' folder there, replace it with the one you extracted from the new archive.

Now start the NXT Wallet, and you should be good to go. Smiley

Hope these instructions might help.

Cheers

Thanks! This second part is what fixed things for me.

Latest version of the NXT client is 1.4.17:
https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-4-17/

I'll hassle the Nxtforum admins, see if theres a specific issue with the verification process.

Sorry, I accidentally said 1.4.7 instead of 1.4.17 in my first post. Regardless, the windows and mac wallet download links on the nxt website give you 1.4.8. Seems like that should be updated because at the moment those wallets are probably just giving newcomers error messages.

Is there an updated mac wallet coming soon?

Update now.

Upgrade to v0.9.3.4 or v0.10.7.40 on http://darkcoin.io/getstarted.html, your coins aren't lossed, this happened to many other people as well.

Still no Mac update. Still mislabeled on the Darkcoin website.

I appreciate instacash's work on the mac wallets and I gather (s)he has a lot of projects so I'm sympathetic to them here. However, it's a moderately significant problem for the darkcoin community (especially on days like yesterday!) if there is an update and then a lengthy delay before the mac wallet is released. Even more so when the mac wallet is MISLABELED on the darkcoin website.

Is there any kind of plan to provide in-house mac releases in the future? Is there any way that mac users can update the wallet themselves?

Withdrawn some drk's from mintpal.

Someone help

Don't think the mac wallet has been updated yet. Might want to double check your software version.

Is there a Mac release in the works for the new wallet update?
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 23, 2014, 01:13:42 AM

I'm afraid the 30mil was misinformation. According to http://agran.net/bc_getbalance.php?top=100, the top addresses hold 40,973,569.05. That's worse distribution than the ~39mil I posted last week. (You can see that easily in my tiny post history.)

well it depends on how much is held in exchanges.

there was over 3500 btc traded on minpal alone which is about 10 million blackcoin.

Across all exchanges you could probably assume that there is between 10-15 million on exchanges.

Right, but trade volume when I posted before was even higher. So, overall distribution has probably gotten a bit worse.

Stop sweating who owns what wealth currency coins is always going to b top heavy

The Wealth Distribution

In the United States, wealth is highly concentrated in a relatively few hands. As of 2010, the top 1% of households (the upper class) owned 35.4% of all privately held wealth, and the next 19% (the managerial, professional, and small business stratum) had 53.5%, which means that just 20% of the people owned a remarkable 89%, leaving only 11% of the wealth for the bottom 80% (wage and salary workers). In terms of financial wealth (total net worth minus the value of one's home), the top 1% of households had an even greater share: 42.1%. Table 2 and Figure 1 present further details, drawn from the careful work of economist Edward N. Wolff at New York University (2012).
http://www2.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html

Point taken. In fact, below a certain threshold, distribution may not matter much at all. Still, it's interesting that those figures suggest wealth distribution in the USA is quite a bit better than Blackcoin is now.

Does anyone have an estimate of how many Blackcoin users there are?

Hello,

top 1000 wallet analysis compared with yesterday.

top 10 hold : just under 15 mill

top 10 wallets:
Code:
Rank	address	March 15th	change from yesterday
1 BKvbFYk7XpHKEBpD3KTDwjXqDyQsRYCAD1 3450000 New wallet !!  (Exchange?)

10 BN791jjCYKTk1tWS6KC9sUbWY4ivxLkyg9 975000.0999 100% (Exchange ?)

there are 2 brand new leaders in the top wallet category. However the top one could be an Exchange wallet. that would make sense as there is 500+ BTC daily volume.

to get into the top 20 takes 500k coins or 17 BTC

Top 50 takes 200k coins or about 6.8 BTC

top 100 takes 100k coins or 3.4 BTC

In the top 100 there is 22 brand new wallets that were not there yesterday.

Overall the top 100 is holding 36 million however I believe the increase in  5 million from yesterdays 31 million is mostly due to people keeping their BC in an exchange.

Top 1000 hold about 68 million total

My Post from March 15th. distribution is increasing.

15 million for top 10 is about what it was 30 days ago, so there hasn't really been much change.

30 million for top 100 is lower then what it was 30 days ago. it was around 36 million. distribution >> up !

I'm afraid the 30mil was misinformation. According to http://agran.net/bc_getbalance.php?top=100, the top addresses hold 40,973,569.05. That's worse distribution than the ~39mil I posted last week. (You can see that easily in my tiny post history.)

Any guesses about what the super-secret mystery news is?

A Blackcoin exchange controlled by the Blackcoin developers perhaps?

Anyone have a list of the Rich List with actual % change? I'm curious how many whales actually flinched.
http://maarx.nl/maarx.nl/blackcoin/distribution/
This one doesn't work!

I did a quick check with this list: http://agran.net/bc_getbalance.php?top=100

It seems like there was only a tiny decrease in the top 100 holders' share. Still ~39mil coins.

I dunno if that is good or bad.

Is there a total somewhere or you added it yourself?

I did it myself. Just a spreadsheet copy paste.

Yesterday was 39,864,558.03

Today is 39,195,131.2

So ~700,000 less.

If you match up the addresses and report which ones have significant change after 24 hours that could be useful info.

Didn't save the data from yesterday. Would be interesting to have an ongoing record of that though. . .

Pointing out a legitimate bubble is not FUD.  There's no uncertainty here.  There are clear patterns in the alternate digital community and I provided two good examples.  Each time there's a downturn in digital currencies some random coin is always pump and then left to die.

There's no incentive for subsequent investors to come in and buy BC when it's valued at $10 million as the ROI isn't there anymore.  Meanwhile the Whales, who bought in for pennies when the capitalization was less than $100K, have incentive to convert their BC into BTC or a portfolio of new alternates.

First you have to stop comparing BC to other alt coins. That is like comparing a Kia to a Ferrari. Yes you are right other coins are pumped and then when the ROI is not there anymore investors sell off and pump another coin. I dumped roughly 9 Million Mint weeks ago and bought BlackCoin. I haven't sold my own personal holding of BlackCoin and I wont. BC is the coin where investors come for stability and preserve their wealth. You also have to factor in many other coins have one or a few people holding millions of coins. BlackCoin is fairly distributed so a massive dump from one or a few people is not likely to happen. As BlackCoin value continue to increase and more people hold it, the chances of a dump because less possible.

I also want to point out many other coins can't be used to by things. We are quickly overcoming that problem, and the devs and myself are working behind the scenes to make sure BC can be used as a legitimate currency.

So BlackCoin is the real test to see how viable can a POS coin be with all the right ingredients.

0.24 cents in about 12 hours and $1.00 by the end of the week.

Factor in other coins have one or a few people holding millions of coins? I'm really liking Blackcoin so far. But this, the exact opposite of what you claim:

http://agran.net/bc_getbalance.php?top=100

And the fact that there was a one week ''fair'' PoW mine period - which is bullshit because one week is far too short for it to be a fair distribution make me hesitate to buy in. Now don't tell me that if I think this way the coin is not for me, convince me.

You do realize many of those addresses are exchanges? You also do realize BC has over 74 million coins? If someone dumped 500,000+ coins (which we already seen happen a few times), guess what the effect is? It gets absorbed by smarter investors and quickly taken out of circulation.

Which ones are exchanges? How many of them? Can you tell? The total of that 100 addresses is roughly 45 milion coins. To me that looks like people waiting to sell at a higher price.

For anyone curious, I did a quick spreadsheet of the top 100 addresses and they constitute a total of 39,864,558.03 (that was an hour or so ago). So, a little over half. I didn't see a response estimating what fraction of that is exchanges. I'm also curious about how this distribution compares to other coins. I hear people saying that it is "fair", (which it might well be!) but does anyone have any numbers to support that?

I'm not trying to stir up trouble. Genuinely curious about how to think about what "fair" distribution actually means.

Dogecoin has a worse coin distribution if you look it up and that coin has been dispersed way more than Blackcoin.

Blackcoin is pretty fair as far as cryptos go.

You'll find in almost any coin though there's always a few lucky people who hold a ridiculous amount of coins (not exchange wallets). It just happens.

Ok, so from bitinfocharts, the top 100 addresses hold:

Bitcoin - 19.15%
Lite - 45.47%
Peer - 55.44%
Doge - 49.95%
Name - 51.10%
Aurora - 90.66%
Quark - 65.14%
Zeta - 74.50%
Vert - 33.23%
Feather - 49.94%
Nova - 66.22%
World - 61.52%
Mega - 70.25%
Terra - 55.73%

Blackcoin is 53% making it a bit worse than Doge, but about average overall. Not bad for a new coin I guess. I was a bit surprised to see how poor Litecoin's distribution is.

Bot vs. Bot.

What exactly is happening behind the trades when you see this?

Automatic traders (bots) are buying up coins and selling coins at the same time, causing wild fluctuations in the price.

My question is more like, who builds such bots and why?
