21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: running a full-node, getting this crash message>> on: July 12, 2017, 06:29:40 AM
It looks like your node crashed while the database was still open so the database has been corrupted. Try starting Bitcoin Core with the -reindex option. Right click the shortcut you use to start Core and choose "Properties". Then in the box labeled "target", add -reindex (with a space between that and what is already in the box). Then click OK and double click the shortcut to run Core. When it is started, open up the properties dialog again and remove the -reindex so that you are not reindexing every time you start Core.

The node is running, but it starts downloading from 8 years ago - from genesis block.... It might take a week to sync... Sad

By 2029, in 12 years time - almost 98% of the total bitcoins will be mined.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you build it they will come? on: July 10, 2017, 08:09:11 AM
it is simply because adoption is a slow process and it is like this with any new technology. when computers were first introduced not everyone jump in the computer shops to buy them but today (nearly) everyone has a PC.

it is the same with bitcoin too. it takes time. first we need regulations, and it has been happening this year with Japan and multiple other countries.
then we need a more stable community with less debate and drama. so that new people can easily come in and feel welcome. right now if someone new comes in and googles bitcoin and goes to reddit they will surely run away from all of this!
then we need a more stable price so that bitcoin can be seen more than just a speculation tool and more like a currency. this will take much longer but we are at least half way there. the big swings are less common now and with more smaller swings.

these 3 in my opinion are the first most important steps.

why 99.95% of people will agree to the rare Bitcoin blockchain, making all early adopters (2009-2016) rich - and not look for better crypto solutions?
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: if you build it they will come? on: July 10, 2017, 07:44:03 AM
In case bitcoin becomes a global official currency, people will buy Bitcoin of people which have already got bitcoin´s, either for fiat (in the beginning) and then for goods or as payment for their work (when it is more and more famous).

This will take a generation - 20 years.
if you build it they will come? In my opinion yes, if there is no scaling problem (and we will have a few more sclaing problems, even IF segwit and the lighteningnetwork help now, I doubt that would be enough if 8billion people and companies use BTC)

Bitcoin only as store of value?

It will happen, they will come like your Subject says "If you build it, they will come" they must be stuck in traffic.

It's all because of SegWit?

with less than 5mln BTC left to mine, on the 8th year, with news worldwide - why the price is only 2500$ and not much higher? where are all the billions of people? where are all the FIAT's trillions?

all andreas videos

Spot on. Any thing where Andreas Antonopoulos is speaking is listening to one of the experts. Also gears his talks toward beginners and putting the revolutionary aspect of bitcoin into world perspective. How this project is going to influence the world. How audacious it is that we will allow a corporation to be involved in any transaction with make with our money, and therefore the get to charge a "toll" for that transaction.

A few more recent favorite Andreas videos of mine, have you seen these yet?

The Joe Rogan Experience #844 with Andreas Antonopoulos

Andreas educating the Senate of Canada

thanks. any other clips ?

r1973, good on you for being a link between the bitcoin community and people who are new and curious.

Ben Perrin has a great series of videos on YouTube, check out his BTC Sessions channel.

His videos are of a consistent quality, spanning a variety of timely topics, and are geared toward the beginner (either to Bitcoin or to specific products or technology aspects).

And generally, Ben seems like a genuine and friendly fellow. Don't forget to suggest to your FB group that they tip Ben some bitcoin if they find his videos useful!

will do so right now! never heard of him. THANKS!

39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: three questions about Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Central Banks on: May 29, 2017, 07:04:43 PM
I think that Bitcoin today lacks a profound noble leader like Vitalic is for ETH. Gavin filled Satoshi's role until maybe two years ago - but since he left the stage, no one else has replaced that important role, and "we" are left with a group of unknown programmers which supposed to be core-developers which might be unknown to 99% of the Bitcoin people, much less to the general public.

With regard to the Central Banks hidden abilities and hidden agendas – they can secretly invest billions without the knowledge of the general public - only to sabotage their successor – sabotasing Bitcoin to not fulfilling its original goal, as written in the White Paper. These Banks leaders and law-makers of the FIAT currencies live in different world than we are  – and they do secretly damaging the consensus. (I have no prove of that, only my feeling).

I think that Jihan Wu and his  bitcoin hostage ASICBOOST exploit is because of China's leaders, secret police and decision makers ordering him to do so... Jihan Wu is a Chinese puppet on strings, instructed to act as so (maybe he is an hostage himself as a metaphor – beacuse of the Chinese leaders themselves). The situation in the USA and worldwide is not better than China in terms of the FEDS and other Central Banks and their hidden abilities. There is a currency war worldwide - and bitcoin is also in the battle field.

I care so much for Bitcoin, that this makes me worried sometimes, not wishing it not to loose it's brand name as #1 crypto forever...
