As much as I would love to do that, they want something a little more concise. This, straight from the outline of the research paper.
Introduction:
This part includes components 1 and 2 of a research proposal as Greenlaw describes
it on pages 26-27. In the introduction, you should carefully state your research
topic. Be careful to narrow your research focus to a specific research question. For
example, "Social Security reform" is too broad, but could be narrowed to "The impact
of the increase in the Social Security retirement age on the labor supply of older
Americans". In this section, you should also explain why your topic is important.
If your topic is related to public policy, you might cite an article from the popular media
to indicate the importance of the topic.
