I bought a big crap load when they hit $4
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / So it's fair to say bitcoins are worth $5 bucks? on: October 01, 2011, 07:09:15 AM

This is the longest run I have seen where they are pretty much stable at 5 bucks with a little up and down movement but they have been at 5 bucks average for a month now.

Agree?

As I said, I can do full HD coverage.... live streaming.... photos.... ect, but I would need expenses covered as I am in NYC.

Here is an example of some of my work:

I got it working on a laptop with a new driver update.

What is the absolute CURRENT latest version now? I'm a little confused with the version naming - and does the
final version include tor portable browser on the bootable usb?

Exchange Bitcoins (https://www.exchangebitcoins.com/) is light years ahead of their competition.  I use them myself, and always recommend my clients to use them.  Some idiots are still screwing with Dwolla- what a joke.  Why do Tradehill and MtGox even need Dwolla?  Why don't they take money directly the way Exchange Bitcoins does?

If both Tradehill and MtGox folded tomorrow it would greatly benefit the market.  Both suck!!!!!!

I think the two biggies don't take money directly from banks from fear of being seized or shut down or frozen by the banks.
ExchB is taking a risk and as we can see CHASE already disappeared from the list so that leaves Bank of America & Wells Fargo.

As long as the exchange remains small it seems it works, but once some bank investigator starts asking questions... there could be trouble.

I am not saying that these things are infallible but there are honest people on here who have built a name for themselves and are recognizable. Without blowing my own horn I'm not gonna charge back and there are others who wouldn't either.  So this thread is for that.

Also - paypal may be changing their tune on bitcoins as I fought them on one case and they actually sided with me and are disputing the bank.  They accepted my block chain and screen captures as evidence.  It was only for one btc but we'll see what happens.  They did not say to me - you're screwed you can't do that. I also include and instruction book and the btc is a bonus.

#bitcoin-otc is pretty god damn insane.  I mean the gpg thing and all that..... it's great and all but you almost need a degree in computer science to fully understand it.  I finally got a nick going in there

BlackoutsBox

But....  I trust some members on these forums, and sometimes want to buy or sell, so this thread could almost be the same thing, like a rating thread.

I sold X btc to ______ and he paid quickly.... it has been a month.. no charge backs.. good communication... ect.
I bought X btc from _______  report.

No system is perfect against fraud, but we must not allow this to deter us from making honest transactions.

So use this thread for requests, reports.  I already got the BTC I needed bu it wasn't from a forum member,
and I know I'm never going to charge back on anyone.  but OTC was dead too... I guess because I'm a new member.

In a similar thread in this section I've presented a way to get Bitcoins and paying by Paypal. In order to prevent fraud, a PIN code (free) is sent to the customer's mobile phone. It could be interesting for newbies and people needing immediate bitcoins at a premium.
The thread is at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=38873.0 and so far customers are satisfied Smiley
How can you be sure that the phone number is accurate? Paypal doesn't give you they phone number nor ebay.

I may be wrong here, however there were times I used to sell on ebay through paypal. From what I got there, the main issue with scammers is not about anonymous guys playing with a bunch of stolen CCs. A person may scam you just because there's an opportunity to do so. He/she could be 100% real, with confirmed address, phone and whatever else. Still if there is a safe and painless way to rollback credit card spendings, many of them will surely go this way.
The bottomline as I see it - verifying buyer identity, intention and consciousness could never protect from further chargebacks if there's no legal obsticles for a person to perform it.

First my excuses for not answering these questions, I havent seen them until now.

I am sure that the mobile phone is accurate since I send a unique 5-digit PIN code to that number. This ensures that the user has physical access to the mobile phone.

Concerning the question about scammers that use their real, verified accounts, they will have a hard time trying to win the dispute. They are paying to belong to the Hall of Fame, which is public, and it's trivial to verify that. In addition, in the Paypal's receipt it's clearly stated what he is paying for: "Position in the Hall of Fame for the address ****** and amount **". And, in any case, the person who does that will be immediately banned from the service.

No, my point here is.. where are you getting the PHONE number from... how do you know the PHONE number belongs to the account holder?  So what if a hacker uses a pay as you go cell phone or something ?
If you send a code to that phone sure you have a phone number but how do you know it is the real phone number of the person trying to buy with paypal?

This is true as well.  There are some legit people who learned about bitcoins and buy and dispute.

The case I am currently in dispute with is only for a single bitcoin that I sold at a premium  I think the rate was 11 at the time and i sold for $20 maybe even $25.. to a member  with plenty of feedback...

This was before I had the idea of the physical book with a unique code in it.

After a week they charged back,  I told e-bay it seemed like he was willfully defrauding and showed all communication and screen grabs of the confirmed transaction and blockchain.

The money popped out.. was held... popped in.. they said they are disputing the bank with my evidence.  I was surprised.

We shall see.

See my other thread I am starting for those looking to buy and sell coins with paypal

The reliable buyer seller paypal thread:

kind of like the web of trust with out all the insane complication of gpg on #bitcoin-otc which is still loaded with fraudsters
anyway.

Sometimes in a pinch people want to buy and sell BTC through paypal.

RULE #1 do not mention it in the transaction. Just make it a service for computer software help

I would like this thread to become a safe haven rating of people who are trustworthy of buying and selling on paypal.
Post what you want to buy or sell, build your rep on here, and then use this thread to check reputation.  I know the irc channel exists but it's a mess of spammers & scammers.

I would like to buy about 10 btc right now from a hero member on here. Respond here first... I guest safest is to do it 1 by one or divide it up with people you don't know. Post your want need here, then post confirmed /reliable / or problems / scammed.
Obviously I would only start with proven forum members.

I am also a seller.  Right now I don't have access to my BTC and need some. I will be selling later.

I had some luck with paypal rebuking some one of my customer's "unauthorized charge" attempts. I had someone buy around $750 worth of BTC over the span of two months. One day I logged in and there were 60+ unauthorized charges from this person. I didn't refund the money, instead I waited so that paypal would have to review it. Turns out he was using his own account and marked all the charges as unauthorized, though paypal determined that the charges were legitimate and that no suspicious activity happened on his account. I was rather surprised. I'm not sure if it helped but my account is 9 years old, good standing, and a premium/business account.

At any rate, I'd like to get whitelisted if anyone can do so  Undecided

What do you mean you didn't refund the money?  Paypal just takes it during dispute.  They will even go into your bank account.  I am assuming then you had already withdrawn everything and had no linked bank account or no funds in the account?

32  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The current Paypal / Ebay fiasco on: September 18, 2011, 07:25:07 PM
In a stunning update to this story, paypal has surprised by by actually refuting a bitcoin chargeback and using
the blockchain + sent letter as evidence.

So the money was deposited back into my paypal even though it could be pulled back out, and they are disputing the bank.

I am very surprised.  I do have a very good history with them and about a 7 year+ account.

any updates??

I have not heard anything back from paypal.  I imagine disputing the bank takes 30 to 90 days.

36  Other / Meta / Re: Info about the recent attack on: September 13, 2011, 06:30:55 PM
Sure this has been answerd. Not trying to be annoying. Just couldn't find it and didn't feel like reading the entire thread and got e-mail from one of the pools (or could be bull spam) saying wallet.dats were attempted being uploaded when you came here during the cosbycoin time.  I did not on a machine that has a bitcoin wallet on it.  This is posted on several pools though including bitcoinpool so I was just checking.

Passwords changed, and I don't store any passwords in the browser of any importance anyway.

were wallet.dat files uploaded or not?
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here! on: September 12, 2011, 05:59:35 PM
What is wrong with the newbie system? It keeps out the already ridiculous amount of trolls.  I went through it, so did everyone here. If you are truly interested in bitcoin and don't want to post some spam it's fairly easy to get through and get on to the boards.

So you are saying you want MORE junk than is already here to automatically come through? This makes no sense.
There is no sense of elitism in properly filtering out spammers and 1 time posters.  Even with that system in place a lot of accounts get through that APPEAR to be here just to cause distress / arguments and not contribute much.

I don't even hold that many bitcoins - I just am 100% behind the idea of it - or the next level of it. Bitcoins represent true financial freedom and that is a good thing - even though it is not 100% - it's a damn good step in the right direction.

39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Time for something better than MtGox? on: September 11, 2011, 08:48:05 PM
Is it time to abandon Mt gox?  So many observed questionable practices, delays, possible market manipulation and preference to insider major BTC holder trading. Unreliable non executed orders and low and high reports.... They are like the World Bank of Bitcoins and just proven a mess and unreliable / untrustworthy and slooooow yet still since they are the big dog everyone goes there.  Should we not be just as concerned about mt Gox as people are at Deepbit having too much power and that power being corrupted / misused ?

40  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy bitcoins using Google Checkout - btcnow.net on: September 11, 2011, 05:53:57 PM

This is extremely encouraging although still not a definite YES.. it's sort of a maybe yes....

It depends how they define a bitcoin.  Is it a currency or virtual currency and what is the difference?

What is their process to stop the onslaught of chargebacks? Will they accept the confirmation codes in blockexplorer as proof?

Still - this would then have hackers target google just like they did ebay to get as many bitcoins with stolen CCs as they can - what is the best strategy to prevent this?
