21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-qt huge interface size, Linux Mint on: July 01, 2021, 10:41:52 PM
I have Samsung TV (1080p) attached as a main screen, so i set it as a main screen, in accessibility i have "large text" ON.
In "font settings" under "text scaling factor" i have 1.2 though when i change this number up or down, everything on screen gets larger or smaller but  Core doesnt get affected at all.

I have this issue with Core only, all other apps are displaying and working normal size.

I googled how to run a regtest and did the following:
Downloaded  bitcoin-0.21.0-x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.gz, unzipped it, went to bin folder, opened terminal from there and run
Code:
./bitcoin-qt -regtest
it opened Core welcome screen with this message: Error: Config setting for -rpcport only applied on regtest network when in [regtest] section
But i took a screen shot so you can see that welcome screen size of the version 0.21.0 is same as version 0.21.1 they both are same extra large size around 80% of the screen.

I also run a command /usr/local/bin$ ./test_bitcoin from bin folder of version 0.21.1 and received this error, maybe it has something to do with my initial issue? or i can ignore it

/usr/local/bin$
Code:
./test_bitcoin
Running 445 test cases...
unknown location(0): fatal error: in "streams_tests/streams_buffered_file": memory access violation at address: 0x00000000: no mapping at fault address

In process of doing it.
Can you please tell me if i need to uninstall my current version which already has done more than 60% of IBD and delete all downloaded block chain?

Its similar issue but not exactly, i dont only have large width, it all in general too large and it doesnt have to do with transaction because i am just in process of downloading blokchchain and have no transaction i my wallet.

Hello

I have installed Bitcoin Core on Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa flowing instructions described in bitcoin.org, then i created desktop icon pointing to bitcoin-qt file from bin.
Bitcoin-qt opens up but the the size of it is very large, cant see bottom portion and it doesn't let me to resize it to fit in the screen, i have no such a problem with any other apps on my system. My display setting seems to be setup correctly, i have 1080p monitor attached, but even on my laptop`s screen withoud second monitor i still have the same problem.
I spent many hours trying to find solution but no luck, there are several articles pointing to some QT version issue but non of them have step by step instruction how to fix the problem, i am very new to Linux. I tried to check my Qt version
Code:
sudo qmake --version
  but i get nothing:
Code:
qmake: could not exec '/usr/lib/qt5/bin/qmake': No such file or directory
I found workaround, opened PDF reader, under "about" it shows: Qt: 5.9.5. It looks like this is a up to date Qt version, so I dont know what to do.
Any idea how to fix the issue?

Now I understand it  Smiley THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT
30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Coin control, what addresses can and can`t be used for change on: June 09, 2021, 01:27:37 PM
ok i will ask this way, what to do with the funds in change address?
I have 5btc it my entire wallet, it came it me as one whole output. Now i spend 3btc and the remaining 2btc i receive on my new address in the same wallet.
Now all i have in my wallet is 2btc which seats under change address, what is the best and proper way (besides mixing coins) to use these funds ?

As many of you suggests to never reuse addresses, i cant get it how do you avoid reusing, you eventually will have to use fund from change address, and whatever transaction you do it will consider reusing.
31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Coin control, what addresses can and can`t be used for change on: June 09, 2021, 12:39:11 PM
Thank you ALL for your answers!!!!

as on of the comments suggest to avoid reusing change address, makes me confuse, because eventually i will have to use up the amount from change address, so i will have to use it somehow. How then can i avoid reusing the change address?
I understand that that change address i will label as a change address and never use again as a second change address but the i will have to use up fund from that address, thus sending them to someone as a payment or sending to my own wallet but to complete new/unused address
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Coin control, what addresses can and can`t be used for change on: June 09, 2021, 12:06:39 PM
Bitcoin Core gives me an option to use custom address as my change address.
The question is: can i provide my electrum address as a change address in Core? For example i have 4 btc on my Core wallet, i want to send 3 btc to someone, but the remaining 1 btc i dont want back to my Core wallet but i want to transfer it to my electrum, so if i use my electrum address as a change address in Core will it go to my electrum?

Another example: I have 5 btc in Core wallet, i want to send 3btc to Alice and 2 btc to Bob, to make it all in one transaction can i send 3btc to Alice and use Bob`s address as a change address, thus Alice will get 3btc and the remaining change of 2btc will go to Bob.

Thank you o_e_l_e_o
It works for me now:)
34  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Restoring Electrum wallet with hardware device on: June 07, 2021, 04:51:50 PM
I restarted computer and everything worked.
Now i dont need to write exact wallet name, i managed to restore all wallets with new names.
Very strange, hope this glitch doesnt affect my wallet`s privacy and security.

Thanks everyone for your comments, especially to  dkbit98 for taking your time and testing on your machine.
35  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Restoring Electrum wallet with hardware device on: June 07, 2021, 02:55:01 PM
Exactly Charles, thats what i meant. It not about derivation path.

Here is an example:

I have created a wallet in Electrum, named it DW, i created this wallet using a hardware device (Trezor).
Then i wiped my Trezor and deleted all wallet files from Electrum, then i restored my Trezor device with a seed, after i went to Electrum to recover Electrum wallets. A t the first step, when Electrum gives option to name your wallet if use "default_wallet" name or any other wallet name it wont restore my wallet. I have to type in that window my wallet`s exact name "DW" which i want to recover, only then it recovers it.

So it looks like along with the seed we need to write down and keep Electrum wallet names too?
36  Bitcoin / Electrum / Restoring Electrum wallet with hardware device on: June 07, 2021, 01:03:58 PM
Hi

When restoring Electrum wallet using option "Use a hardware device" it doesn't restore my wallet unless i put the exact wallet name.
So i have to go new/restore then type exact name of the wallet which i want to restore, then it recovers the wallet.

I did not know that wallet name is important, do i do something wrong? or it is the way it works with Electrum, and i have to not only write down my seed but also a wallet names?

37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Send transaction from Bitcoin Core wallet when config file has walletbroadcast=0 on: May 19, 2021, 07:09:48 AM
Wow, you just opened up a whole new world for me
Nowhere online i have seen alternative option to use Treazor with Core.
Even on Trezor’s wiki page it talks only about running trezor local instance or Electrup+EPS in case if one whants to be independent from satoshi labs, bypassing their servers.
It took me a lot of time to figure out my current setup with Electrum and EPS, but option to directly use Trezor with core sounds exciting, and i think less complicated, less components in the way thus it will be kind of more
Robust on privacy.
I will now try too figure out this setup.

Tha k you a lot for revealing this to me.
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / should I IDB Bitcoin Core over TOR ? and should i disable DNS lookup ? on: May 18, 2021, 08:25:29 PM
1st Question
In this article https://curiosityoverflow.xyz/posts/bitcoin-electrum-wallet/ i found out that Bitcoin full node IDB should be done after changing bitcoin-core configuration to run over Tor.

Does it really matter, do i ruin privacy if i download full node without Tor? If its really matters, will it work if i uninstall then do reinstall and setup bitcoin core to run over Tor and download prune node instead of full node, since for EPS prune works as well ( my goal is to set up Core to run over Tor and use Electrum with EPS in order to use Trezor) Huh?

2nd Question. In the same article it says :

Quote
Bitcoin Core will still query for peer addresses via DNS lookup # if low on addresses these 2 options disable this functionality.
dns=0
dnsseed=0

Since we have dns=0 and dnsseed=0, we have to start with some nodes that we can sync from (you can use your own nodes that you can find online.

Can you please give your opinion on this too? Is this step necessary for privacy, if yes can you please tell any secure source where i can find those nodes? The article gives several nodes but i rather use nodes found from some legitimate source.

Thank you all for helping, it all works for me now.
40  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Send transaction from Bitcoin Core wallet when config file has walletbroadcast=0 on: May 18, 2021, 04:41:06 PM
The reason of using Core (+ Tor) and Electrum with EPS is to be able to use Trezor.
Trezor just alone doesnt worj with Core, but it can be used with Electrum, hence i have this setup
Core+Tor+Electrum+EPS+Trezor
